Bills apparently jump into the Nick Barnett derby

The Packers cut linebacker Nick Barnett.  The Lions would like to keep him in the NFC North.

But the Bills may want to bring him to the AFC East.

According to Buffalo Rumblings, Bills receiver David Nelson spilled the beans on Twitter regarding the fact that Barnett was at camp on Saturday.

The Bills need an inside linebacker, given the decision of Paul Posluszny to sign with the Jaguars.  For those inclined to make educated guesses, the Bills also could pursue Channing Crowder, given that defensive coordinator George Edwards previously served as an assistant in Miami.

He’s better than PoSluszny, that’s for sure.

Pump your brakes Buffalo! He won’t leave Detroit tomorrow!

Buffalo would be a good place for Nick.

What is Philly doing. Its been a couple hours since a signing. I’m ready for something else to happen.

Good luck Bill’s maybe you will get him, if not you don’t want Chowder, fine some one else.

  7. pbolyard says: Jul 30, 2011 11:45 PM

We really need him in Detroit. If he signs here he’s gonna look like a stud playing behind Suh and Fairley.

Maybe posluszny couldnt excel in that piece of crap gang the bills tried to call a defense. You ever think of that?

I would love to see nick in ny wearing blue. However cap space and his age probably prevents that. He’s a good player n I hope he goes to Detroit. He can show the pack why he’s better than aj hawk and can be on a playoff contending team. Yes, Detroit really is a playoff contender this year.

The bills would take Brian Bosworth at this point, LOL!

From the Super Bowl to the Toilet Bowl…yeah, that’s gonna happen.

  12. sterlingrodgers says: Jul 31, 2011 12:07 AM

    @valman61

I think you’re right that Nick is better, but only in a 4-3 as MLB. I think Hawk is better on the inside in the 3-4, than he was on the outside in the 4-3, and better also than Nick in that position. That said, there’s a reason I want Nick to go to Buffalo and not Detroit.

Yeah, I’m sure it’s the Bills’ scheme that made PoSluszny into a glass sculpture who would repeatedly get blown up by TE’s and be forced to make a tackle 10 yards down the field.

Wow the bills might win 5 games this year, congratulations

Barnett would look real good playing behind Pro Bowl DT Kyle Williams and future Pro Bowl DT Marcell Dareus

  17. jimmysee says: Jul 31, 2011 12:32 AM

Barnett is a team player, a leader, and a great player. I was sorry to see the Packers let him go.

And he’d still be better than Crowder

  19. title13xtown says: Jul 31, 2011 12:42 AM

You people talking about how great he is have no clue. He’s always hurt….does the samurai for routine plays and is small and is easily blocked…..he needs to be weakside backer in a 4-3 but refuses to move from the middle.

He is the poster boy for mediocre and educated Packer fans are happy he’s gone.

If Nick Barnett is the highlight of your offseason your team will probably suck.

Nick would be a good add for any team
solid dude too,,stand up guy Ted called him
I hope like all hell Detroit dosent sign him
He’ll be looking to make an impretion on his former team 2wice a yr!!!

Not taking money into account, Detroit would be better for Barnett. That being said, Tulloch would be better for Detroit… Just my opinion. Good luck to the Bills and Lions, their fans deserve an exciting season and future seasons.

    Fully agree with this.

Called this a few days ago. Wouldn’t be all that suprised to see them bring both crowder and barnett on board of they get the chance. The more 3-4 pieces the better. This team needs vetran help at this point, it looks like were going to try and build from within.

  24. virusgvr says: Jul 31, 2011 2:01 AM

I’m a pretty big Packers fan, and glad we win the SB, but you can count them out as winning it this next year or even getting close!!!! With all the cuts going on, I’m surprised we haven’t cut Rodgers at this point. This packers team reminds me of the Blackhawks of the NHL when they won it all. They had a complete fire sale!!! Slashing and cutting everyone in site, and that’s what’s going on In GB right now !!!

If anyone at the final moments guessed the eagles to win the nnamdi sweepstakes, when it was down too Cowboys vs Jets, I say Eagles swoop in AGAIN and grabs OUR NEW WEAKNESS IS LB!

  26. macjacmccoy says: Jul 31, 2011 2:39 AM

For those inclined to make educated guesses, the Bills also could pursue Channing Crowder, given that defensive coordinator George Edwards previously served as an assistant in Miami.

Or if someone used a better educated guess the Bills could be the last team to pursue Channing Crowder because their defensive coordinator George Edwards knows him from Miami and wants nothing to do with him.

  27. tatum064 says: Jul 31, 2011 5:10 AM

they need a presence on that defense…if healthy Barnett is as tough as they come

  28. jimmysee says: Jul 31, 2011 8:29 AM

Anyone know whatever happened to Brian Broham up in BUFFALO?

Virusgivr — you’ve jumped to a conclusion waaaaay too soon (like even before the first exhibition game! — there’s ten draft picks *plus* 15 undrafted free agents up there at St. Norbert’s college.

The Packers have always been a young team and develop from within. Replacements for the departed FAs are already on the field.

Remember Sam Shields, Frank Zombo were in that undrafted rookie free agent category just last year.

  29. dewalt2990 says: Jul 31, 2011 8:38 AM

Let the Bills have him, He’ll be hurt by week 3.

  30. teal379 says: Jul 31, 2011 12:18 PM

    Nick’s a decent player.

He’s pretty quick side to side but he has a very hard time taking a blocker on, overpowering and shedding him and getting to the ball carrier.

He’s not going to get you sacks by blowing up the line or even a RB to get to the passer either. He gets tackles but VERY few of them are for a loss.

He’s also getting older and has been struggling with injuries.

If you’re weak at LB, he’s worth looking at but he’s not worth paying a lot of money for. Simply put – he’s not a game changer.

Of course he has a bit of an attitude problem and I’m not just talking about the Superbowl picture deal. He’s not always been the best citizen in the community either. Ultra-lounge or not.

Combine all that with the visible and immediate improvement in the play of that defense once it was Hawk calling the D vs Barnett – it’s really not a surprise that GB parted ways.

As to the assertion that GB is having a fire sale? Really? Dude they’ve not let anyone go that was younger than 30 and a large part of the SB run. Some might say Jones but he’s not gone yet, can’t find someone who thinks he’s worth (with the drops) what he thinks he is worth so there’s a good chance he comes back. Even if they lose him – who’s got the players to cover Finely, Driver, Jennings, Cobb and Starks outta the backfield? No one – not even the Eagles.
