@jo3jo – You might want to check your facts. Landry didn’t back-up Reed. They play side-by-side. Zibby backed up Reed but will probably play next to him now. Gregg didn’t back-up Ngata. He plays next to him. Cody was a not too often used back-up. Gregg would leave on passing downs. I think we’d see the same thing from MacGahee & Landry as we saw last year. Gregg would definitely have had a limited role & was clearly expendable. Redskins choices of Ravens players proves your point more: Stallworth (cast-off), Chester (back-up at best), Wilson (4th corner on the team)…and they’re looking for these guys to start? We’re definitely suffering a lack of depth from all the players who are gone…but we’ve gotten much younger & faster. Cant say hungrier…other than Gaither all these guys have been relentless for us!

Weird that so many teams are grabbing up Ravens back-ups and proclaiming them starters, moreso than from other playoff teams. MaGahee (Rice’s backup), Landry (Reed’s backup), Gregg (Ngata’s backup) all would have had very limited roles on the Ravens this year, and maybe even lose their jobs to incoming youngsters, and yet somehow teams are shelling out the big bucks as if they were the starting team. I think these guys are nice depth if you can get them cheap enough, but if you are actually expecting to start them, you are basically going with someone else’s second team as your first.

Gregg is not what he once was. He’s probably on par with Edwards and Smith at this point in his career, if not a slight downgrade.

Good sign but for older guy for one year! Franklin would be a better sign but Kc signing cheap free agents isn’t a surprise

Kelly Gregg is an awesome player, and I wish him all the best in KC. He was healthy last year, and hopefully he will be as healthy this year. He is a class guy, has a non-stop motor, and he will be missed. We have a lot of young guys and depth in the interior line, so that made him expendable.

I like the pickup for the Chiefs..good solid run defender, and brings alot of experience to the D line. I was a little nervous when Edwards and Smith left, but like an above poster mentioned, he is better than both of them. We still have a few players to add to the defense, but this is a good start.

Thank god, great pickup tough as nails guy who fills a spot that kc desperately needed to be able to truly run Romeos type of 3/4 defense..He’ll be a leader and also be able to teach this years 6th round Powe the ins and outs of playing the Nose in the NFL..
There is talk that McClain’s top choice is Kansas City as well…

Exactly the kind of guy Tyson Jackson and Glenn Dorsey need in the middle to help them live up to their potential. I’m betting Derrick Johnson will have another career year as well.

I’ll take Ngata and Cody with the additional depth. Gregg was a great player but he wasn’t the same after the microfracture surgery. Really thought rex was gonna pick him up.

I didn’t like losing Smith and Edwards but I think Gregg is better than either of the one’s KC lost. We’re still a big body short. Hopefully we’ll pull the cat from San Fran.
