Kevin Faulk is back with the Patriots

K. Faulk AP

Bill Belichick will always give his favorite players a chance to compete.

Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald notes that 13-year veteran running back Kevin Faulk was listed on the Patriots roster for the first time in training camp on Saturday.

Coming off a torn ACL, Faulk may have an uphill battle to make the team.  BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Danny Woodhead, two mid-round draft picks, and Sammy Morris are all in camp.

But Belichick knows anything can happen, and Faulk will get a spot on the roster if he can prove he still has it over the next month. If not, the Patriots will likely throw him a celebratory press conference with many kind words from Belichick for one of his favorite players ever.

    Welcome home KF!

He will make this team over Sammy Morris if all backs stay healthy. With the expanded rosters and the Pats cutting Crumpler, the Pats will carry 5 backs.

One of those “get the job done” Patriot favorites of the past decade in the mold of Troy Brown, Tedy Bruschi, etc., a true fan favorite!

    Good luck, Kevin!

Hope Kevin makes the team. He could be huge in the development of Shane Vereen, his eventual replacement in NE.

Did he ever leave? I thought that Belicek just wasn’t playing him. Did he play for another team last year?

“expanded rosters and the Pats cutting Crumpler, the Pats will carry 5 backs.”

Why in the hell would you carry 5 RBs, when there are 22 positions. I can see 3, maybe 4. Usually the 4 and 5 RB are on the practice squad and only used if needed anyway.

Good luck to Faulk though, not a Pats fan but always respected that guy.

    Patriots.

Super Bowls illegally taping opponents signals: 3
Super Bowls not illegally taping opponents signals: 0

    The facts don’t lie.

I can’t wait for the first time Brady is throwing one of his throw-the gatorade-cup-really-hard hissy fits on the sideline…and Ochostinko clowns past him wearing a gold cape, mugging for the camera.

    How entertaining will that be!

Patriots are taking alot of chances on alot of guys. ( Haynesworth, Ochocinoc and now Faulk).

We carried 5 backs last year… no need to flip out over the suggestion we might do it again. we are definitely carrying 4.

morris has a better chance than faulk for the 5th spot–he plays special teams, FB, has good hands and he can run inside. sorry kevin… one of my favorite pats, but we don’t need 3 third down backs.

You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. Belichick always carries at least 4 RBs on the active roster, and more often than not he has 5.

2010 opening roster: 5 RBs (Faulk, Taylor, Morris, BJGE, Maroney)

2009 opening roster: 5 RBs (Taylor, Faulk, Morris, Maroney, BJGE)

2008 opening roster: 4 RBs (Maroney, Jordan, Morris, Evans)

You can go back further if you want, but you’ll only find more of the same.

So many great plays, but too bad he didn’t get about 5 more inches on that 4th and 2 against the Colts a couple years ago. Amazed he even made the catch, though.

This guy has secretly become one of the greatest Patriots of this era., even if he doesn’t play this year. Never complains, always making clutch plays, can do just about anything, counseled Randy Moss by smoking a lot of pot with him before Celtics games, and like all good Boston athletes he’s helped the local RI economy with his donations to the Foxy Lady.

    Let’s go #33!!
