The San Francisco Chronicle reported Friday that left tackle Jared Gaither agreed to terms with the team, a report that was immediately disputed by his agent.

It turns out Gaither was with the team, but ESPN’s John Clayton says the Raiders chose not to sign him. It’s not hard to connect the dots here. Gaither missed all of last year to injury, and his troublesome back has been a problem for years.

Instead of going with Gaither, the Raiders are going with trusty old Khalif Barnes. Clayton reports Barnes signed his third straight one-year contract with the team.

Oakland also filled their hole at quarterback, signing Trent Edwards. In Edwards’ return to the Bay Area, he’ll compete with Kyle Boller to back up Jason Campbell.
