Getty ImagesThe return of former Bills top-five pick Mike Williams to the NFL in Washington was a great story of a former draft “bust” making good after years away from the league.
His comeback story likely ended Saturday when the Redskins officially released him.
Williams started eight games in 2009, but missed all of last season in 2010 because of blood clots found near his heart. It appears that health issue will prevent him from continuing to play.

Wish you the best, Mike.
dammit Jim, we need more offensive line help!
He actually was a good guard for them two years ago. Nice comeback story that didn’t get a lot of media attention.
Good.. all of these Mike Williams-es are getting confusing.
Get well Soon Mike!
Glad to see he made a bunch of positive health decisions, which were far more important than redeeming himself in the eyes of the NFL world.
Good luck Mike, you proved how good you are 2 years ago. There’s more to life than playing football, get your coaching head on, it’s very rewarding.
Goodm luck Mike and may God be with you.
Good Luck mike we appreciate you all your effort and commitment of your comeback. Wish you well!!
Get the hell outta here!!!! And someone tell Shanahan to draft good young linemen, quit picking up big dudes off the street!!!!!
Just kidding, obviously wish Mike W. All the best!
Nice that he came back, but really its a story of a lot of talent squandered by someone who couldn’t find the work ethic or committment to reach his full potential.
But hopefully he can put his health issues behind him and move on.
I cant keep these Williams straight…. for a minute their I was about say what are you guys Greg he played last year not in 09 and he played for the Seahawks not the Redskins, but then I took a 2nd and remembered that there’s 53 Mike Williams in the NFL and 22 of them were 1st round busts.
