Getty ImagesWhen listing some of the veteran running backs waiting for big paydays that won’t be coming on Saturday night, we didn’t mention Bengals running back Cedric Benson.
But there was no way, under any set of circumstances, that Benson would get big money. He has one unresolved legal issue from 2010, along with a fresh claim of assault against his former roommate.
And so he fits Mike Browns profile for personnel acquisitions: Cedric came cheap.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Bengals have agreed to terms on a one-year deal.
A former top-five pick, Benson was cut by the Bears in 2008. He has been a solid player for the Bengals, but that big payday continues to elude him.
Except for the one he got in 2005, back when the first-rounders got big money based on potential.
Benson is awful. All he can do is plod up the middle. Hand the ball off to a guy enough and he’ll get 1,000 yards. Doesn’t make him a good back.
No surprise. Still no team. Yawn.
man that sucks for Benson
They seriously needed him. I’m surprised it took this long.
Bengals are officially a work release program
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
As a Bears fan I can say…hes a bum
It’s not that hard to not get arrested.
Mike Brown needs to trip and fall.
Just after a report comes out that Bradshaw is visiting the Bengals, they sign Benson, who will probably be suspended anyway.
Gotta love it.
As a Bengals fan I’m beginning to feel like it’s the movie Groundhog Day filmed in black and orange…
Love the alliteration in the headline.
Previous headline could have been “Benson barebacks boyfriend”
What are the bengals abd Mike Brown going to do in two years when they have to spend up to 89% of the cap.
Go get ‘em Ced. Hook ‘em.
of course they did. he’s already fulfilled his Bengals arrest quota for the year. he’s regarded as a suck-up in the locker room.
Good. I’m glad. I’d probably beat up someone who was trying to extort me, too.
the bengals , say no more….
AS IF ANYONE ELSE WANTED HIM
Every word in the headline begins with a “B”.
Just sayin.
While I agree with this move, Mike Brown is still the worst owner in all of sports.
thanks for including his rookie deal in his not big payday comment. the bears paid him like 15 million and all they got in return was a guy who fumbled when he wasn not injured which was most of the time. so excuse me if I
The Bengals are slowly and methodically putting together a spectacular offseason!
thanks for including his rookie deal in his not big payday comment. the bears paid him like 15 million and all they got in return was a guy who fumbled not including the game changing one in the super bowl when he was not injured which was most of the time. so excuse me if I do not feel sorry he is not able to con anybody else out wasting big bucks on him.
Mike Brown wants there to be absolutely no doubt that the Bengals are having the absolutely worst off season in the league.
A perfect losing record is within their grasp.
Math quiz: One year contract + 2 pending assault charges = how many games played this year?
I love word problems.
Whether he assaults people or not has no bearing on how good of a football player he is. He’ll help out Andy Dalton a lot. That is, if e starts over Gradkowski.
When asked he was concerned that Benson had just been arrested again recently, Mike Brown said “Huh?”
Where’d he sign the contract from? The downtown County Jailhouse.
This guy is an above average back and will get over 1000 yds.. Bengals need a good running game because of quarterback uncertainty so this is a good move for them.
the criminal bengals. yes, the vikes have everson griffen. good lord why do we still have him?

I don’t know if he’ll help Dalton, but he’ll certainly be looking at his ass.

That must be precisely why he racked up 189 yards in a 45-10 victory the last time your Bears saw him, smart one.
The one year contract is given to guys that gain 1,000 yards on the field but are complete turds off of it
There’s a reason so many here have day jobs (or more than likely unemployed) – cuz they failed comedy school. Making ‘Bengal’ cracks os hardly clever.
@spartytime….Are you sure you are a Bears fan? Because my guess is most Bears fans would remember the last time the Bengals played the Bears and Cedric ran for 189 yards in a 45-10 Cincinnati win (2009).
As sad as this seems on all fronts, Cedric is the best option the Bengals have on offence and the Bengals are the best option Cedric had to make a team. Of course this all assumes he isn’t suspended.
Ok!! Now it’s time to acquire Kenny Britt and Aqib Talib!!!
Bengals Locker Room = Halfway House
Actually, if the Bengals franchise had Benson, Pacman, Kenny Britt, and Aqib Talib it could also be a halfway house.
Turd turd turd turd turd turd
This is a good move. Now they just need to fill their hole at running back.
