Bengals bring back Benson

When listing some of the veteran running backs waiting for big paydays that won’t be coming on Saturday night, we didn’t mention Bengals running back Cedric Benson.

But there was no way, under any set of circumstances, that Benson would get big money. He has one unresolved legal issue from 2010, along with a fresh claim of assault against his former roommate.

And so he fits Mike Browns profile for personnel acquisitions: Cedric came cheap.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Bengals have agreed to terms on a one-year deal.

A former top-five pick, Benson was cut by the Bears in 2008. He has been a solid player for the Bengals, but that big payday continues to elude him.

Except for the one he got in 2005, back when the first-rounders got big money based on potential.
