Though Eagles president Joe Banner prefers the notion that the franchise is “all in” to the suggestion by quarterback Vince Young that it’s a “Dream Team,” Banner acknowledges that the expectations are high.
So I asked Banner during Monday’s PFT Live where the line between success and failure resides in 2011. Banner didn’t hesitate. The expectation given the recent moves is clear: Win. The Super Bowl.
Of course, they can’t win the Super Bowl until they get there. And they can’t get there until they can get past the Packers, who won Super Bowl XLV despite having an injured reserve list with nearly enough names stage a baseball game. With the Falcons hoping to outscore the Packers via the addition of players like Julio Jones and Jacquizz Rodgers, the Eagles hope to contain the Green Bay offense, with Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Jason Babin, and Cullen Jenkins added to the defense.
Either way, that 2011 round robin between the Eagles, Falcons, and Packers just got a lot more interesting.
And as to the “Dream Team” slogan, I joked with Banner that the T-shirts with the slogan are being printed. Banner fired back by pointing out that the shirt would soon be available on the team’s official website, a not-so-subtle nod to last week’s brouhaha regarding the premature offering of Rodgers-Cromartie’s jersey at the Eagles’ online shop.
