For 2011 Eagles, it’s Super Bowl or bust

Philadelphia Eagles v Indianapolis Colts Getty Images

Though Eagles president Joe Banner prefers the notion that the franchise is “all in” to the suggestion by quarterback Vince Young that it’s a “Dream Team,” Banner acknowledges that the expectations are high.

So I asked Banner during Monday’s PFT Live where the line between success and failure resides in 2011.  Banner didn’t hesitate.  The expectation given the recent moves is clear:  Win.  The Super Bowl.

Of course, they can’t win the Super Bowl until they get there.  And they can’t get there until they can get past the Packers, who won Super Bowl XLV despite having an injured reserve list with nearly enough names stage a baseball game.  With the Falcons hoping to outscore the Packers via the addition of players like Julio Jones and Jacquizz Rodgers, the Eagles hope to contain the Green Bay offense, with Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Jason Babin, and Cullen Jenkins added to the defense.

Either way, that 2011 round robin between the Eagles, Falcons, and Packers just got a lot more interesting.

And as to the “Dream Team” slogan, I joked with Banner that the T-shirts with the slogan are being printed.  Banner fired back by pointing out that the shirt would soon be available on the team’s official website, a not-so-subtle nod to last week’s brouhaha regarding the premature offering of Rodgers-Cromartie’s jersey at the Eagles’ online shop.

    Eagles look solid.

Nnamdi is great, no doubt, but DRC is overrated and blows coverages.

What position is Cullen Jenkins going to play in the 4-3, DT?
Can’t see that as a fit.

Excuse me, but having your best WR holdout, a starting QB that spent almost 2 years in jail for killing dogs and backup QB that tried to kill himself does not qualify you as a “Dream Team”. That makes about as much sense as Dallas calling themselves “America’s Team”. More like “Central America’s Team”.

Actually, it is America’s team. America houses the majority of prisoners in the world as well as a rather high depression rate, so it is an accurate reflection of our population.

They will be good but not good enough, Packers & Patriots in Superbowl!

  11. melonnhead says: Aug 1, 2011 5:36 PM

Please. They have to get past more than the Packers.

So what happens if they DON’T win the Super Bowl? I think the Eagles went all-in on players to put the pressure on coaching to finally get some hardware. How long do you give a coach before you decide to go in another direction? This will be Reid’s 13th season.

  12. mringhof says: Aug 1, 2011 5:36 PM

As an Eagles fan, I don’t like the term ‘dream team’ being thrown out by a QB that will likely play only 2-3 games. This isn’t basketball, where the ‘dream team’ was stacked with the best in the NBA. This team has holes along the O-line, our best 2 WRs are no-shows for various reasons, and LBs that are VERY inexperienced. We might have a CB dream team, but that’s just a piece of the puzzle to help ‘hopefully’ (knock on wood) win it all.

  15. skulman7 says: Aug 1, 2011 5:37 PM

    @hines

What are you basing him being overrated and terrible coverage on? He’s been in the league three years and already has a pro bowl under his belt. Not to mention he has two (or possibly one) of the best CB’s in the league on his team opposed to being the only good CB on the roster.

And Cullen Jenkins played in 4-3 before, if you remember, Green Bay only recently switched to 3-4. Jim Washburn is the best defensive line coach in the league and they wouldn’t get him if they didn’t have a plan for him. Washburn rotates his Dlinemen so expect him to play some End and Tackle.

A Dline with Cole and Babin on the ends and Jenkins rushing the passer from the middle is going to be a nightmare for QB’s on 3rd down.

  17. britishraven says: Aug 1, 2011 5:39 PM

I would think their salary cap situation is awful next year (although I don’t know) so it probably is SuperBowl or bust this year

  18. pnut87 says: Aug 1, 2011 5:40 PM

Right, cuz nobody could figure that one out with all the moves they made in FA… But now look at the history of all the “Super Bowl or bust” teams over the years. How many actually pulled it off? Last one I can think of were the ’94 49ers team.

  19. rpiotr01 says: Aug 1, 2011 5:41 PM

“Either way, that 2011 round robin between the Eagles, Falcons, and Packers just got a lot more interesting.”

Packer fan here. How can you leave New Orleans out as contenders? One year removed from a SB, stellar and motivated QB, same D system and O system, great coaching.

And speaking of coaching, how about when making a list of contenders, you stick to teams with defenses whose coordinators actually coached, ya know, DEFENSE last year. Don’t think the coaching matters? Ask Dom Capers, Dick LeBeau, Gregg Williams, etc.

  20. pnut87 says: Aug 1, 2011 5:41 PM

It typically just doesn’t work. I’m not ruling it out entirely, but my money’s on “bust”. Sorry.

  21. nfl25 says: Aug 1, 2011 5:42 PM

The eagles are still under the cap. Everyone is allowed to spend the same amount of money. Don’t be mad cuz eagles from office is smarter than most other front offices. We didn’t over pay for anyone and we got 10 picks for next year. We don’t get players the way certain other teams do by trading all their picks or overpaying for players.

  22. nfl25 says: Aug 1, 2011 5:42 PM

Also just because the eagles spent money this year doesn’t mean it’s a dream team. 7th round picks at WLB and SLB and 4th round rookie at MLB. Rookie at SS and 2nd year man at FS. Its not like they put together the greatest team on earth. I love the way the team is put together but they act like we should go undefeated

I get the feeling PFT really wants to act like the eagles should go 16-0 and if they don’t it’s a letdown. Isn’t it superbowl or bust for every team, every year?

  23. neisha75 says: Aug 1, 2011 5:42 PM

Hmmm… they said that two years ago and still no Superbowl. Eagles = last year’s Heat.

  24. beastofeden says: Aug 1, 2011 5:42 PM

Looks like it’s going to be BUST then. How often do the ‘Offseason Champs’ win it all? They look good on paper but once it’s time to buckle up the chin straps paper doesn’t matter.

And the Igg’s are going to take every teams best shot. Bullseye on their back.

I can’t wait for VY to come into a few games and ruin them.

  25. schemefactory says: Aug 1, 2011 5:43 PM

still think that running the ball against the eagles, and daring them to run or throw will be all it takes for a talented team to beat them.

Dude enough with the Dog Killing already. Maybe you are watching the wrong Sport, maybe you would enjoy the Oprah show where they never let dog killers on. REAL football fans want to see Vick play. As for a player holding out, every team has players that hold out for more money so what are you CRYING about? Oh and Banner nor anyone in the Eagles Front office ever called the Eagles the “Dream Team”, which makes it completely different then Dallas calling themselves America’s Team.

  27. ed1311 says: Aug 1, 2011 5:44 PM

The Eagles have definately improved their roster, but that doesn’t mean all the pieces will fit together. The Packers are still my bet; They’re just too solid on both sides of the ball. The Eagles will still need to score points and I don’t see any improvement over last year.

Jesus get over the Dog Fighting criminal shtick all ready.. at least Vick didnt shoot himself in the dick at a night club.. please… Vick is at school every day consistently preaching against his wrong decisions.. dude was locked up just like you or someone else in everyones family was… the Eagles are not guaranteed anything this year except pressure and scrutiny but thats every year in Philly

They do however have the best corners in the league, and that will mean more sacks baecause they will blanket WRs and give the opposing QBs less options..

Asomuah is lined up to be the Charels Woodson clone in the Eagles Defense as reported today, which means he will play the nickle x position while Assante and DRC are the starting corners.. this is very good for the Eagles because they are weak at linebacker and it will allow Asomuah to roam the field and make plays..

face it.. players want to be playing for the dog killer.. so get over it already .. they have

Banner will sign D-JAX before the year starts.. again they havent won anything yet but they will be the most exciting team in the league to watch

I know the Philadelphia fans are extremely happy at this point prior to their Season Opener. Rightly so.
I am extremely impressed with the ‘front office’ and their ability to make the ‘moves’ with their additions, yes, very impressive. As for me However, I remain the same as before about Vick and the Eagle Organization, I can not get passed the fact that the entire – ‘killing’/’abuse’/’torture’ of those dogs is totally ignored…….just my true thoughts. I cannot get past the fact that if Vick was on an opposing team, if the Eagle fans would feel the same way about him and would still consider him as the ‘next coming’ let’s say for example if he were with the Dallas Cowboys…… once again, just my opinion. I am and will be remain steadfast in my opinion of maintaining what happened to those animals, at the expense of ‘Sport’ and ‘money’, generated by their ‘fighting to the death’….. and if a loser, they were put to death in the most horrific and tragic ways that an animal must endure…….Yes, I hate Vick and the Eagle Organization. Just my opinion.

If I had known some organizations weren’t gameplanning to play football for the potential of winning the Superbowl we could probably shorten the season right?

  38. capslockkey says: Aug 1, 2011 5:48 PM

  39. rodgerthat says: Aug 1, 2011 5:48 PM

All I can say is thats why they play the games…..
As a lifelong packer fan I will say this tho. If Jenkins stays healthy, that pick up could prove to be as good as Nnamdi. Man is a beast and a big loss for the Pack even though they are highly stocked with talent. Played in the 4-3 a lot longer than the 3-4 and was just as or more effective.

  44. jnbnet says: Aug 1, 2011 5:50 PM

Looks like it will be the Eagles and jetz……at least according to them. I could be wrong but I don’t remember any team, who signed the top free agent, going to the superbowl that year.

  45. nomoreseasontix says: Aug 1, 2011 5:50 PM

Bust. Buying a Super Bowl pretty much never works. That fact doesn’t keep teams from trying, though.

  46. cowboy88 says: Aug 1, 2011 5:51 PM

I love how everybody is counting out the Cowboys. They were 5-3 second half and if not for freak fumble would have been 6-2. Now they have a new Def Coordinator who will surely improve their defense.

If I compare the Eagles and Cowboys. Advantages and Ties are as follows

    Eagles ADV Tie Cowboys ADV
QB (by a little) WR O Line
    Secondary RB Front Seven
    Spec Teams
    TE
    Offensive Coach Defensive Coach

Looks pretty close to me. But the Euphoria surrounding the fact that for once in Joe Banner’s life, he had a pulse during free agency, is warping some peoples perspective.

  47. thebumski says: Aug 1, 2011 5:51 PM

  48. tombrookshire says: Aug 1, 2011 5:51 PM

  49. berniemadoffsides says: Aug 1, 2011 5:52 PM

Coming from a Giants fan, I’m impressed with the moves the Eagles have made thus far. How could I NOT be? But if they don’t win a Super Bowl this year, it’ll be all for nothing. I’m not trying to sound like sour grapes, I swear, but I mean they have absolutely ZERO excuses this year if they don’t win it all. That team is loaded from top to bottom – so long as Vick stays healthy, I don’t know who’s better in the NFC.

But… we’ll see what happens. That’s why we play the season. :D

  50. rickycubane says: Aug 1, 2011 5:52 PM

    NFL25..

you are exactly right.. i see all these people posting about how can the eagles make all these moves? they cant possibly still be under the cap.. blah blah blah

Joe Banner is a douche but he is also an accountant and he manipulates the cap better than anyone.. which is why he is employed by the eagles

cry as much as you want.. look at the panthers wasting all that money on their players.. gave Charels Johnson 70 mill.. and Deangelo Wiliams 4 times more than any other RB will get this offseason..

Eagles would never do that and they still have 8 mil to work with under the cap.. next year they still have 18 mill under the cap.. we might still be losers.. but we are smarter and the super bowl number will not be zero for much longer

  51. 13forgbp says: Aug 1, 2011 5:52 PM

YAAAAAAAWWWWWWN…… When was the last time the “it” team that brought in a bunch of high priced free agents won anything? Has it ever happened?? That has worked awesome for the Redskins every year, hasn’t it?

One last question…..What is, and when do they award, the Best Team on Paper Shoe In to Win Everything Award Before There is Even a Practice Trophy?

  52. southphillyadam says: Aug 1, 2011 5:52 PM

It would be interesting to see the Eagles match up with the Packers this season. They’ve obviously strengthened their secondary, but the Packers are so talented and so deep at WR. Then you throw in Finley and DJ Williams if he pans out. I don’t see the Philly being able to stop that offense… but I’m also a Packers homer so what do I know.

They don’t necessarily have “get past” the Packers if they Packers lose in a previous round before playing them, they don’t get an automatic ticket to the NFC Championship…assumptions like that are just not well thought out, if they play them then obviously they have to beat them but they could avoid them completely and make it to the Super Bowl without playing them…

Kind of like the NFC had to “get past” the Saints last year but all it took was a 7-9 Seattle Seahawks team and a monster run by Marshawn Lynch…so the Packers didn’t have to “get past” the Saints last year to make it to the Super Bowl

  66. janvanflac says: Aug 1, 2011 5:59 PM

A year ago people were railing on the eagles front office for going into the season with too many inexperienced players, low draft picks etc. Most people predicted a rebuilding year. They won their division and came within a TD of knocking off the eventual SB winners.

They manage the cap better than anyone, generally draft well (especially in middle and late rounds) and are one of the most stable organizations in the NFL. Now they are absolutely stacked with talent from top to bottom, and are on balance a young team. In the NFL, anything can happen but they have to be one of the favorites.

  67. grbigblue says: Aug 1, 2011 6:00 PM

The pigeons will have a hard enough time winning their own division let alone SB. Paper champs.

  68. delshofner says: Aug 1, 2011 6:00 PM

The Eagles front office has been among the best at not overpaying, getting rid of a guy a year early rather than a year late, getting rid of almost anyone over 30, etc. for 10 years now.

They’ve been contenders a long time, but haven’t been able to close the deal. This year looks like the first time they are putting the pedal to the metal.

Pretty loaded except for LB’s and the OL. The latter is the unit that may well be their undoing.

  69. nuclearwarfare says: Aug 1, 2011 6:00 PM

  71. terrellblowens says: Aug 1, 2011 6:02 PM

I am an Eagles fan so of course with all these additions I expect the Lombardi trophy to be in Philly. But don’t count out the Saints as a a team to beat in the NFC. The Eagles have had the Falcons’ number lately, by the way.

  72. gi141 says: Aug 1, 2011 6:02 PM

And why is something Vince Young said news-worthy?

But about people saying the Eagles are “buying a title” are completely uninformed. This is a team that won their division with the bottom 4 worst red-zone defense in the NFL. They are already stacked on offense and a perennial 10-win per season franchise. All they’ve done is address their many holes on defense. Not buying anything other than a chance to have a better D.

  73. packerbacker12 says: Aug 1, 2011 6:02 PM

It is way, way, way to early to even say the Eagles will make the Super Bowl. People are really getting to far ahead of themselves by saying they are before they have even played any games.

With that said, until the Eagles prove it, the Packers are the best team in the NFL.

As a Redskins fan I am worried because the Eagles have built their team the right way, which we are finally starting to do BTW. But, that said, I just can’t see the Eagles winning the Super Bowl because no matter who the players are after the first 15 scripted plays it is all on Reid – and Eagles fans know why that will likely prevent them from even getting to the big game.

Bust! They are set up for disappointment. Andy Reid gets the can at the end of the yr, Michael Vick will realize he likes humping dogs more than he does killing them, and Desean Jackson will hopefully finally break in half. Hyped up paper champs is all this team is. Remember ladies and gents this is the Eagles we are talking about.

As far as the skins cowboys and giants super bowls: Dallas 1 playoff win in like18 years, skins have sucked since 91 and giants are 0-7 vs eagles since theirs. How’s that super bowl treating y’all now…. Lmao! Nobody cares what you did 20 years ago….. I’m gonna enjoy the NFC east onslaught!

Don’t get me wrong. Superbowl win is impressive. But if that same exact team shows up and wins one less reg season game the Eagles won’t have to worry much about them.”

Who cares if they didn’t win their division? They proved they were better than the Bears by beating them in the NFC Championship Game. And they also proved they are better than Philadelphia by not just beating them in Week 1 but knocking them out in the wild card round.

You can put it anyway you want…”They barely made it it. They didn’t win their division. The Eagles almost won.” but the fact of the matter is that they made it into the playoffs, rolled through 4 teams and won the Super Bowl.

All the haters are coming out of the woodwork now because of jealousy, criticizing Vick’s past, DeSean’s absence, Andy’s clock management… blah, blah…

It will all come down to injuries, last year Green Bay coped because they build deeply through the draft. Key injuries, and lack of depth (due to high dollar free agents) often trump winning the free agent bowl. Ask Dan Snyder…….

Heck, the high priest Asomugha might not be all you bargained for. Your Oline coach (I mean Def Coord) may be as confused as he sounds. Your not even paper champs. There are other teams with more talent. You have the second best Corner in the league. Big crap. Dallas has the best pass rusher in the league. New England has the best QB, etc. etc.

They still have to play the game like every other team.

It’s a straw man argument. I don’t recall anyone saying they’re going to win the Super Bowl based on the free agent crop. But God forbid they try.

Note to all other teams: Don’t bother trying to improve your team, because apparently it never works.

Wait, what round robin? The Packers play the Falcons (10/09), the Falcons play the Eagles (9/18), but the Eagles and the Packers do not play this season unless they meet in the playoffs (which is plausible, but you can’t exactly count on it.)

Since the Packers finished 2nd in the NFC North last year and the NFC North plays the NFC South, the Packers play the Giants out of the NFC East not the Eagles.

  97. conspiracygenerator says: Aug 1, 2011 6:28 PM

Come on. And people who term them the Miami Heat of football are truly uneducated. EVERY team has the money and ability to pick up players in FA, what the Eagle have shown is that they’re better at it than a lot of the other teams, thats all. Technically, since players on every team make good-insanely good money, isn’t EVERY team trying to “buy” a championship? ps Be accurate about America’s Team. The America’s Team anointment was given to the Dallas Cowboys in 1978 by NFL Films/Ed Sabol/John Facenda. The Cowboys did not object, however.

do me a favor people, stop the hate. Im serious, Saying the eagles will choke or they wont win the sb because nobody can ever buy the sb is stupid. Im tired of people using past results to predict the future. Also stop saying the eagles are buying the sb. they build through the draft (which is why they are good every year) so buying a ton of talent to cover up their needs is not buying a SB.

And yes the packers are good but let me remind you that the eagles outgained the packers in total yards in both games last year. their offense is just fine which is why it returns. The eagles have the better team on paper then the packers, get over it…

Seriously give the eagles their due and admit the following:

“Eagles are not 100% promised a SB in August. However they sure did improve their odds at winning it”.

That statement above is true Im sorry. If you say it isnt then your being a hater against the eagles or a homer for your team. Point is:

Eagles are a SB contender and will be very hard to beat. Lets leave it there. I actually think the eagles are the fav to win the sb but everyone needs to admit they will at least have a better shot then most teams.

  131. jsrdc says: Aug 1, 2011 7:48 PM

It’s been SB or bust for the Eagles for decades. They have 0 SB wins, so it is obvious it is SB or bust. What is also obvious is they are trying to buy a SB victory. The odds are very much against them doing this, but what they have been able to do via FA is impressive, and I am a Cowboys fan saying this. They could be very good this year, and they look good on paper, but that doesn’t guarantee anything. Look at what happened to the Miami heat after bringing in their two superstars.

Melonhead, the “Eagles lost against the Packers in the 2010 Playoffs by playing aggressive football, but they didn’t get beat.” You can use semantics all you want, but the outcome, not the description, says it all, and the Eagles failed to advance and win the SB. A duck is a duck no matter what you call it.

The Eagles, on paper, are the favorite for the NFC East. That is all they will be given by me. There is too much competition in this league to sit here and say they will win the SB. It takes a perfect storm no matter who is on your roster.

I am excited for my team to be able to play the Eagles at least twice this year. If the Eagles can play as good as they are on paper, it will be good to see how the Cowboys stack up against them. In addition, high expectations and ALL the pressure will be on the Eagles this year more than any other team. We will see how they handle that pressure, especially when they lose a game they are supposed to win. That will be a tell-tale sign of what kind of character this team has for 2011.

I do fully expect VY to be in the headlines for off-the-field stuff, but hopefully I am wrong, and the young guy finally figures it out, even as a under-the-radar back-up QB for the Eagles.

  134. jimmysee says: Aug 1, 2011 8:48 PM

This risky strategy has long term implications — it completely disrupts the locker room and all the young guys the team has been trying to develop.

They see their opportunities fly out the window because of the free agents walking in the door.

For a guy to develop he has to play.

Working in young guys with the veterans is a way to assure continued player development.

If this team does not come through — and even if it does, they could find themselves crippled for years.

Yo… here is the script for this year, Vikings defeat the Eagles in the Playoff’s and go on to defeat the Jets (maybe the Colts) in the Super Bowl…

    You read it here first!

    no joke..

As a Pats fan I can sympathize with the Eagles fans. Your team is ALWAYS in contention, ALWAYS good and sometimes great. They were really good last year, and at least on paper look way better this year. Then you gotta listen to these clowns.
    Dallas lol. Cmon.
VY’s not that bad in spurts, he’s just injury prone, and Tennessee was a bad place to be a QB, especially a star QB. The longest TN win and lose streaks during VY’s career there were with Collins at the helm. Reid will get #’s out of that kid.
Anyway here’s hoping for a SB 39 rematch!

Funny, I just read through 144 comments, and 99% of them are haters complaining about Eagles fans boasting that they are going to win the SB. But how many Eagles fans are actually boasting? It’s the media giving them all the hype. True Eagles fans know this team has lots of holes. We’re just happy our front office finally decided to use all the cap space they’ve been saving all these years to try and fill them. Yes, we’re happy about the off season…wouldn’t you be?

And why is something Vince Young said news-worthy?
But about people saying the Eagles are “buying a title” are completely uninformed. This is a team that won their division with the bottom 4 worst red-zone defense in the NFL. They are already stacked on offense and a perennial 10-win per season franchise. All they’ve done is address their many holes on defense. Not buying anything other than a chance to have a better D.

You know, the Eagles can’t win. When they don’t add free agents, they’re “cheap”. When they do, they’re paper champions because “you can’t win the Super Bowl in August”. It’s a straw man argument. I don’t recall anyone saying they’re going to win the Super Bowl based on the free agent crop. But God forbid they try.
Note to all other teams: Don’t bother trying to improve your team, because apparently it never works.

Another logic filled post. When will the haters learn to rationalize, gi141 ? fmwarner?
The Eagles fill a few holes with what happens to be quality players out of what will be a 53 man roster and it incurs the wrath of every fan of every team in the league. Unlike the Redskins and a few others, the Eagles have the assistant coaches, and game plans, to go along with those “big name” players. I guess they’d be happier if the Eagles didn’t even try to improve.

Or, maybe, they’re angry because the Eagles got players THEY’D like THEIR teams to have. Mostly, they react out of fear. They’d like to keep the Eagles trophy-less so that, like The Sword of Damocles they can use it to deride their fans year in and year out. Now, they are afraid they may be close to losing this perennial “club” never mind that EVERY team suffers devastating and season altering injuries EVERY season including theirs. Careful what you wish for guys. Karma is a b!t(h.

Michael Vick will be hosting the Lombardi Trophy in 2012…
    ———————————————————
He might just be hosting it, maybe, but he wont be HOISTING it, unless he steals it!
And we couldn’t put that past him, now could we!

Don’t get me wrong. Superbowl win is impressive. But if that same exact team shows up and wins one less reg season game the Eagles won’t have to worry much about them.

If? If if’s and buts was candies and nuts, we’d all have a merry christmas.

  149. freedomispopular says: Aug 2, 2011 2:19 AM

Though they haven’t won a Super Bowl, the Eagles have been one of the most successful teams the past 10 years. That’s nothing to be ashamed of.

Just wanted to remind everyone- or inform those of you who didn’t know- that the Packers won Super Bowl XLV and are reigning Champs until further notice… which won’t be coming until 2014 at the very earliest. Thanks.

Remember that amazing and unbeatable Packers squad still was only one game from missing the playoffs and didn’t win their division. Don’t get me wrong. Superbowl win is impressive. But if that same exact team shows up and wins one less reg season game the Eagles won’t have to worry much about them.
    ———————————————–

You’re right…except the same Packer team won’t be able to show up. All the IR guys are returning, including ex-starters. They will be even better this year than last. That alone doesn’t provide guarantees, but my money remains on GB.

  153. dwhitehurst says: Aug 2, 2011 9:16 PM

Lest we Pack fans forget, were it not for Bishop’s shoestring tackle on DJack at the end of the game, the Eagles would’ve won, sending our boys home packing (no pun intended).

No doubt, on paper, the free-agent boosted Eagles team and a healthy Packers team look pretty evenly matched. For sure, IF the Packers were to stay healthier than last year (not to mention getting WR/RB depth in the draft in Cobb and Green), one could argue they’d be better on offense than last year, but they also might not be as good on defense with the loss of Jenkins to the Eagles, and with the great free-agents the Eagles grabbed, they’ll be better too. Again, if/when they meet in the playoffs, it should be an exciting, competitive game. Fwiw, let the “Dream Team” Eagles crown themselves now if they wish…I’d much rather have the Packers be an underdog going into the season.

Please. They have to get past more than the Packers.

So what happens if they DON’T win the Super Bowl? I think the Eagles went all-in on players to put the pressure on coaching to finally get some hardware. How long do you give a coach before you decide to go in another direction? This will be Reid’s 13th season.
    ____________________________________

    Another absurd statement from melontard…..

Who are the Eagles going to get that is better than Andy Reid? Jason Garrett?

The Eagles aren’t the Chargers. They don’t fire coaches that take them to the playoffs damn near every year.

Do you think the Eagles want to be the Cowgirls, making the playoffs twice in 15 years?

Name one coach available on the market better than Reid.

Don’t forget, Cowher and Chucky could have come back by now and have chosen not to…….

And your team is not competition, get it through your fat melon head.

  155. pigeonpea says: Aug 6, 2011 8:57 AM

The Eagles go from “Vick carrying the team” last season to “hoisting the Lombardi in 2012″ with the addition of a couple players? Sorry, that ain’t gonna happen.

As for Vick, he still hasn’t proven himself to be more than a one-and-done wonder post-prison, either. Karma is a mean-spirited bitch, after all.

  156. natefalkirk says: Aug 7, 2011 6:04 PM

Let’s let the season get underway before we decide how far the Eagles will get this season. A strong start and everyone will be talking about how tough they are. A bad start….everyone will be talking “chemistry issues” and “can’t buy championships”. August is one thing, November is quite another. Every season, a contender fails to live up to expectations, and some doormat rises up. Too soon to predict either yet…

Agree that Pack are still team to beat until shown otherwise. They won it all while many guys were hurt/out. But watch Detroit. Competent management, good coaches and quality across roster, especially D. Should contend for #2 in NFC North. Bears can’t protect their QB, and Vikings don’t really have one. McNabb is a patch on a serious hole.

  157. savannahrose44 says: Aug 8, 2011 6:23 AM

last I checked there was a season to play before we start crowning SB champions…The Eagles are going to have to go through a lot of other teams before they can claim anything. On a side note flashy, expensive free agents don’t always pan out and more often than not do not a SB team make.

  158. ArcticEdge says: Aug 8, 2011 6:16 PM
