Jimmy Smith suffers groin injury at Ravens practice

Ravens rookie cornerback Jimmy Smith was removed from practice today after suffering a groin injury.

Smith, the Ravens’ first-round draft pick in the draft in April, tweaked his groin while covering rookie wide receiver LaQuan Williams on a crossing route.

Smith didn’t return to the field and was spotted with a bag of ice in his pants. (Or maybe he’s just happy to be in the NFL.)

In other Ravens injury news, center Matt Birk was held out of practice to rest his knee, while guard Ben Grubbs was activated off the physically unable to perform list.

UPDATE: Ravens cornerback Domonique Foxworth told our friend Aaron Wilson, “Jimmy didn’t tear anything. He should be fine.”
