John Fox’s vanilla Panthers offense is gone. We don’t know how much better offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski’s attack will be, but it’s fair to say it will be more interesting.

“What’s not different?” tackle Jordon Gross told the Gaston Gazette. “Without getting too detailed, I think fans will be happy to see us open up the throttle a little more . . . I’m not saying we’re going to score 60 points a game, but we’re sure going to try.”

Part of that aggressiveness will include creativity. The Panthers designing called running plays for quarterback Cam Newton. And some run-pass options for DeAngelo Williams, who has experience taking direct snaps.

“I get to utilize my hands this year and possibly throw some balls,” Williams said.

Called QB runs and passes from Williams won’t be the key components of the Panthers offense, but they show Carolina plans to be different this year. Panthers fans will surely take different right now.

UPDATE: More on the Panthers encouraging Newton to run.
