Look for Johnson to start at RG because Herrera is going to start camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Coincidentally, Gerbschmidt’s wife put him on the same list.
_________

that's nice. You vikes fan are all class. Talk about trolls, all I did was point out that your center, suully was terrible. i guess it takes those calf contusions 12 months to heal.

@contra74, yeah that's right, 4-12 is lame prediction. Where are you getting that 4th win from?

Wrong as usual. No one was saying he was junk. The reason Packer fans were iffy on the Jones signing is this....

Driver
Jennings
Nelson
Cobb
Finley (who lines up wide in multiple sets)

That is the best 5 wideout combo in the league. So with or without Jones, the Packers are just fine. I'm glad he's back, but I didn't care either way.

But as a Viking fan, you already know about youth, depth and competition at key spots, right?

Jenniferxxx, Manning could have gotten 25million a year on the open market. So, yes, he did take less money. It would great if he would play for free, but why shouldn’t the leagues only 4 time MVP make 18mil a year?
________________________________
You're forgetting all the money Peyton makes from ads. I can't help feeling that he's "taking one for the team" by taking $23 million in the first 3 years (He'll be 38 by then) to protect that ad money. After he turned down the initial offer, Saint Peyton was finally starting to take hits both in the media and on the message board for not being a team players like Brady has been throughout his career. Had that continued, it could have eaten into some of that add money (which is a lot more than the extra $2 million you figure a 35 y.o. QB coming off his 2nd neck surgery, and who seems to be having issues with his recovery, would get). Maybe I'm a bit cynical, but I figure that decision is a lot like the one he made putting his name to the lawsuit and then running for cover and acting like he didn't know what a lawsuit was.

As for the idea of Costanzo replacing Johnson without any loss in performance, I might agree were it not for one important fact. Costanzo was already being drafted to fill another hole on the O-line. The loss of Johnson creates a new hole, and at best Costanzo can only fill one of them. Colts need to move quickly to shore up that O-line, and it's not like there are a lot of marquee O-linemen floating around w/out jobs right now.

Am I following this correctly?

The Vikings are old at key spots and lack depth. They need to rebuild. They watch the Steelers and the Packers philosophy of stockpiling draft picks and building from within, and see the results.

And their off-season plan? Dump a pile of money on a bunch of castoffs 12 days before the first preseason game.
------------------
Castoffs huh - let me guess, you were calling James Jones a castoff scrap before he re-signed with the Packers but now he is your prized WR project right? Packer fans are hypocrites!

Wow. Can't think of another way to say it. I did not see this coming. This one move actually opens things up considerably.....

I think this spells the end of Herrera. Having two players with starting experience and 4-position versatility makes him more than expendable. Johnson will probably slide into RG if no other moves are made, but I look for Hutch to possibly be traded now, hopefully for a S, but picks would be fine. Between Cook and Johnson, they have the flexibility to allow Degeare, Fusco, and Love to focus on just one position (I still see Love as the RG, probably this year).

Good move.

Can he play Center?

I knew it, Carl really is obsessed with the Vikings. Knowing the depth chart for the center position on a team you supposedly hate is proof positive. What a creeper troll. BTW iCarly, Sullivan was hurt last year after starting 2009 as a rookie for a team within a game of the Super Bowl. Keep up the expert analysis though.

_____________

Yeah, ah, one doesn't have to be a football genius to see that the vikes offensive line was terrible last year. Especially, at the Center position. Oh, did you have some injuries? Boo hoo. So, did we. How did that turn out you ask? Oh that's right, we won the Super Bowl.

And "iCarly"? Isn't that like some preteen disney channel show? And, you're calling me a "Creeper?" Ish.

I have been watching Charlie Johnson get beat for 3 yrs. Average pass blocker and AWFUL run blocker. I never new why he started, I guess its because they had nothing better.
Which is why in this years draft Colts took a left tackle in the first round and a guard in the second round.

Good luck Charlie, but I'm glad to see you GO!

Ravensfan4life52, So you're saying Peyton Manning is great, and that Ozzie could afford to pay Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Hloti Ngata, Terrell Suggs etc. if Manning was the Ravens quarterback? The reason Ozzie's always had an "elite" roster is because he has never had to pay a franchise QB, and if you think he's paying Flacco franchise money, then he is getting fleeced. Bottom line, Indy has whipped your ass 7 straight times and there is nothing Ozzie can do about it.

oh, this is the post that i have been waiting for! i can't see johnson taking over for mckinnie, but if he can fit in at the RG position or maybe move to RT and slide loadholt to the RG then i will be very happy. been waiting for the vikes to solidify their line, very good pickup. now im starting to get excited!

"YES!!!! Excellent move from a Vikings front office that is being heavily hated on for “letting” Sydney walk, and replacing him with… Michael Jenkins? That's funny, I've been hoping for the Vikes to sign Kreutz and either Floyd or Edwards. Kreutz would be a coup in the blackand blue division and Floyd or Edwards would give us a real vertical threat. Please get rid of Berrian......
