lol at all these five year olds trying to say Moss is better than Rice ...

If Rice was born and played in today's game, he'd average 20 TDs per season, remember, he did what he did back in the day before all these Anti Defense Rules came out.

but by all means, "ZOMG! Moss is Madden king! ka-durrh!?!?!"

Good riddance to a POS that has made the NFL look even more like a joke. Happy retirement and we will soon see you filing for bankruptcy, I am sure of it…..

WOW did he sleep with your wife or something? Randy is a nascar owner in the truck series. You are a bigger POS for posting on this thread. randy will be fine I am sure of it. Must be his banker or something to be that sure.

This list just shows what a waste Moss was. He could have been the best ever. He could have led his team to multiple championships. Instead he was a headcase, prima donna, wannabe.

At least Rice had moves, Irvin had moves and size - both would run any pattern asked of them. Moss was a one-trick pony. He would NOT have benefitted from better QBs because he wouldn't run more than a few patterns, and those only when he "wanted to".

The best when he wanted to be, and invisible when he didn't care. That averages out to election to the Hall of Average.

Moss reminds me a bit of Car's Steve Smith. Not all the way of course. For one, Moss never punched teammates, and Smith is known to be a relentless worker and competitor . But they are similar in that they are both pretty smart guys who are very, very, very hard to figure out. They aren't mostly good or mostly bad. They are in between. And neither is predictable at all as to which they will be on any given day. There's no "one way" to deal with them as a coach or teammate. So though both are talented, it's what makes them both of them a bit of the ticking time bomb.

Apparently there are a "lot of little boys" on here that don't remeber how DOMINATE JERRY RICE WAS. Rice from 1986-1995 was the MOST DOMINANT FORCE the NFL has EVER seen. 22 touchdowns in 12 games in 1987 ladies, not 23 in 16. 1,848 yards in 1995 ladies, single season record. Made CAREERS for guys like Steve Bono, Elvis Grbac, and Jeff Kemp. 3-TIME Super Bowl Champion including one of the most DOMINATING BIG GAME performances you will ever see in Super Bowl 23, he made catches in that game that were never seen before that game or since! 11 catches, 215 yards, and a touchdown and a MVP. Super Bowl 24, he scored 3 TD's, could have been 6 in his teams 55-10 DEMOLITION of the NFL's #1 scoring defense. 3 more touchdowns in Super Bowl 29 and yet another 10+catch, 100+yard Super Bowl performance. Scored 5 touchdowns in ONE GAME against the Atlanta Falcons. Some of the greatest catches you will ever see; check Super Bowl 23, 1993 regular season in LA against the Rams, and 1995 regular season at Detroit where he catches a deep post, stops on a dime and keeps his balance, and takes it to the house, still one of the most incredible plays in NFL history. Comparing Randy Moss to JERRY RICE, you gotta be kidding.

Like old blue eyes said - Randy did it "his way". As soon as the ball left the QB's hand you would hold your breath and rarely would Moss not come down with it. The Raiders were a total mess the 2 years he spent in Oakland. His antics didn't help, but I think he could see what a cluster he was working with and he checked out. As a life long citizen of Raider Nation I harbor no ill will towards Moss. The man is "straight cash, Homie".

Moss had some incredible moments in New England, 2007-2009. In the end, as always with him, his ego held his talent down.

What a shame. If he had only been more of a team guy ……

One of the most electrifying – and frustrating – players to ever wear a Patriot’s uniform.

=================================
Love Moss. His problem was that he could not express himself very well. He shouldn't have been allowed to speak without being coached. It would have greatly improved his PR.

It takes more than great athletic ability to be a great player, a legend, a hero. And all Moss had was athletic ability.

He will not be missed. The only sad thing is taht, one day, he will enter the Hall of Fame. I don’t think in my 5 decades of watching football have I ever known of a player who deserves it less.

Good riddance. The game is better without you.

Good riddance to a POS that has made the NFL look even more like a joke. Happy retirement and we will soon see you filing for bankruptcy, I am sure of it…..

Try again. From all reports Moss has been smart with his money and has done well in a few different business ventures.

Randy, George Steinbrenner would be so proud of you. You were Mr. October – only in the wrong sport. Really a shame that there aren’t any February claps for you, and I mean that sincerely.

Super Bowl video highlights are the only thing that can cement a player’s place in history. Funny that 25 years from now, no one will really know who Randy Moss was, but everyone will think David Tyree was one of the great receivers of this generation.
------------------------------------------
Riiiggght..because everyone has forgotten Barry Sanders because he didn't have SuperBowl highlights. I wish PFT posters had to take a football compentency test before being allowed to post.

First, great article, unbiased and respectful. But in response to "BigJeter's" closeminded judgements.. ive noticed a pattern with every hardcore jeter/yankees fan and im starting to think they are all clones with a lot of deep seeded anger inside, and it seems each have been fans of sports but never trully excelled at sports themselves. Yes jeter fits the pete rose hard working all round athelete that gives his best every second he is on the field but you cant credit him with the natural skillset of a superfreak talent like Jordan or for the purposes of this article moss. Obviously these fans who never were given natural abilites that made them better than everyone else at a sport relate to an athlete like jeter who has to work very hard for consistent output. And so these jeter lovers learn to hate super talents because they are all "divas" who dont work hard and dont represent the sport on and off the field. But what is sad is that in doing so they blind themselves to the displays of god given talent that would seem unthinkable at times, just because it often comes along with poor character. If an athlete makes an incredible play, appreciate it and stop looking for reasons to hate them because of their talent. Not every athlete can be a role model just like not every citizen can be an "upstanding" citizen, its what makes the world go round. But to deny their talents is just ignorant. Was jerry rice amazing? Obviously. But did he possess the natural talent that randy moss was blessed with? Simply put.. no one did.

Phony. Quitter. Loafer. No guts. Couldn’t carry Jerry Rice’s luggage. Took money that he didn’t earn.
Please don’t hire this clown for TV. I won’t watch. Go give 40% effort racing pickups. Goon.

As a Pats fan i remember loving the way he would play. Sadly, my memories are of him shooting his way out of town (with his mouth) during a post game press conference. He was one of the players that would come up to the podium along with Brady and the coach. All of his talk would be about Randy(third person of corse) not the team. I believe he thought the team would be devastated without him.
If he used his mouth as good as good as his hands he'd still be here.

wow i love how people hate on moss for not being as good as jerry rice. do people not realize that NO ONE including tom brady and peyton manning have had as much of a work ethic for as long a time as jerry rice?

its like saying "shame on moss for only being the 2nd greatest wide receiver of all time. if that loser had the greatest work ethic of all time we couldve been best wr ever." please

also id quit too if i had to spend most of my prime years with dante culpepper instead of montana or young.

Good for you, Randy! See ya.

I think Randy was selfish and immature but I think he spoke from the heart, spoke honestly as he saw it. He was what he was.
He has finally realized that he's not gonna get any big endorsement deals and he's as dumb as T.O. as an actor.
Kick back and smoke a spliff, man.
