Bengals bring in Max Jean-Gilles

Only days after dropping Deuce Lutui, who failed a physical for being even more obese and out of shape than Andre Smith, the Bengals signed someone else to provide some help on the offensive line.

Veteran guard Max Jean-Gilles has joined the Bengals, according to John Clayton of ESPN.

Per Clayton, it’s a one-year, $1.15 million contract.

Jean-Gilles spent five seasons in Philly.  He started 10 games in 2010, and 10 games in 2008.

He’s the latest veteran to join the Bengals on a one-year deal.  Other new arrivals include cornerback Nate Clements and linebacker Manny Lawson.

Didn’t Max Jean-Gilles have to have gastric bypass surgery because he was so ridiculously obese?

everyone is making bangin free agent signings, leave it to the bengals to make the crappy ones. as an eagles fan i can say that jean gilles is really fat and slow and there’s a reason we didn’t re-sign him. He can really only play right guard cuz of his slowness and fattness, u can have him cincy.

they know Max hasnt been the best manager of his weight either right?

  7. drmonkeyarmy says: Aug 2, 2011 9:02 PM

No seriously, it was a genuine question. I wasn’t trying to be caustic or anything. I know one somebody from the Eagles OL had gastric bypass surgery. I can’t remember if it was him or Nick Cole.

Max is listed 6’3” and 358lbs. His wikipedia page says he slipped in the draft due to “inability to control his weight”. WTF Bengals?

He had the surgery before last season or the season before that …………it didn’t help much he is an ok back-up only played because we had a horrible line last year.

The first year he was with the Eagles he looked like he could be good and it just never really worked out. Nick Cole was better than Max and he can play center as well he was also let go in FA by the Eagles.

I’m shocked that PFT didn’t title this one “Bengals Drop a Deuce”

You know that area in the back corner of the supermarket where they put all the dented cans, about to expire bread, and random items that didn’t sell?

The supermarket represents the entire free agent pool. The scratch and dent shelves represent the only place Mike Brown shops for future Bengals.

Sure he finds great deals, but that two-year old dented can of lima beans is sitting there for a reason.

    Who Dey!

He’s the vastly lest talent, offensive lineman version of Albert Haynesworth.

Kudos to the Bungles for this move in acquiring this legendary talent.

    Who is he again?

Now if they could just manage to get the great Marc Wilson under center.

according to Cincy Jungle, Giles is down to 315-320. If that’s the case, cool beans. I’m just hoping he can surprise us and beat out Livings. I’m just hoping anybody can beat out Livings.
