Desean deserves to be paid period. But he doesn't deserve to be paid as a top 5 receiver. Andre Johnson, Larry Fitz, Wes Welker, Brandon Marshall, Roddy White, Greg Jennings, D Bowe,Calvin Johnson, and Reggie Wayne should all be paid more then DJax. If he gets paid as the 9th best receiver I won't have a problem with it. Until next year when Maclin wants to be paid(and he is better than DJax) then it's gonna get interesting.

I’m so sick of guys coming on this site and saying a player has a right to holdout. A contract is a contract it’s a legally binding agreement to perform under certain terms and obligations just like a mortgage. If my house is worth only 400K but I paid 700k does that give me the right not to pay the bank? NO, it doesn’t and any bank will tell you that.

Gotta love Eagles fans. Not really but you know what I'm saying.

If my house is worth only 400K but I paid 700k does that give me the right not to pay the bank? NO, it doesn’t and any bank will tell you that. Players sign contracts Chris Johnson, Vincent Jackson, Osi, Desean and the list goes on and on and they should play out the deal and hit the market! Players especially free agents sign lousy long term deals to get an insurance policy then the first year they have a great season they want to re-negotiate IE: OSI take a look at his contract he had a horrible year in 2006 and 2009 is it any wonder he didn't want to re-negotiate in those years? Players can’t have it both ways they can’t cover themselves in the event of a career ending injury by signing bad deals, then out play a deal and want to re-negotiate. In an ideal world these guys would get paid what they are worth, this I agree with. The fact is teams like the Eagles, Giants, Washington, Dallas would have no problem doing that……….but to have 32 teams that are able to compete on an even playing field you need a salary cap. DeSean is a victim of a system that allows small market teams to still have some kind of parity in the league.

To the person who mentioned trading Desean Jackson and Asante Samuel for Calvin Johnson and a 1st rounder....

Dude, I'm an Eagles fan and you're insane.

Do you think the Lions would be sending ANYTHING back in that deal?

If the Eagles could get Calvin Johnson for Asante Samuel and DeSean Jackson straight up it would be an absolute mega-deal for them.

Cut cap room and get the second best WR in the league at the young age.

You're playing way, way, way too much X-BOX.

Stay at home DeSean. The last thing the Birds need is DJax injured and its not like he needs to learn how to run fly patterns or a 50yd skinny post.

There is almost ZERO need for DJax in training camp.

I listen to WIP every day and their reports are rarely wrong. and they arent the only people reporting that its this week so sorry guys you seem to be outnumbered. now i am a new member to this site so i am going to give you the benefit of a doubt. but if you turn out to be wrong about this (which from what i hear looks like is the case) i hope that you do a post apologizing to all of the sources that you have bashed. if not i will lose alot of respect for this site and i will no longer visit or recomend it. as for djax i agree he needs to be paid he is something like the 25th highest paid player on the eagles alone. that is not acceptable. rosenhaus has to wake up and realize that the eagles dont play this hold out game they will come out looking better than him. if he needs proof tell him to call the since turned journeyman terrell owens.

Jackson has every right to want more money. He has more than earned it.

That being said if his moron agent who i think should be thrown out of the league or the teams should just say from now on we will not deal with this fame loving a-hole should have had jackson in camp on time. He knows very well the eagles were going to start this negotiation during last or this week. Rosenhaus made a mistake. He thought the Eagles would pay whatever he wanted if it seemd like Jackson was going to hold out for awhile. Well guess what Drew, not gonna happen. The Eagles were set to get a deal done with Jackson. And i think the Holmes deal is pretty close to what we should do and i think even the Eagles realize that. This is all Drew telling Jackson he should be the highest paid with the biggest bonus and everyone knows that just isn't true.

Oh and by the way instead of being Fox news and just taking two seconds of a statement why don't you give context of what Vince Young said. I dunno like maybe the question he was asked.

Vince was asked what its like coming from Tenn. To a team like the Eagles who was already a condender and they are adding yourself and these other players. And then with a big smile Vince said "its like a dream team" then he laughed and said "... yeah its great man lots of player coming in......" He wasn't making a comparison or anything like that. He was making a joke. But of course it makes a better story for ESPN and PFT to make it into "Vince young predicts UNiverse championship. Even though he didn't and you know it.

I am so sick of the Santa thing. That was 1968 for Pete's sake.

The team was 2-11 during that game (oh...and lost the game, by the way) .

The Front Office thought it was a good idea to take a fan from the stands in an incredibly sad Santa Claus costume and parade him around during half time when the person hired as Santa didn't show. The float he was supposed to be on got stuck in the mud on the field.

I don't quite understand why the NFLPA agreed to such lousy holdout rules.

The ability to hold out is integral to the play for pay system the NFL has. Just like teams can drop players that are overpaid or stop performing so can players rightfully hold out when they are drastically underpaid.

Jackson has made about $3 million in his three years in the league and he has VASTLY provided more value between the lines than that for the Eagles. That contract wasn't negotiated either. That's just a locked in deal based on him being a 2nd round pick. He didn't even have any input into it's length (they are all 4-year deals).

Jackson has every right to hold out. Just like the Eagles could just sit on their hands and do nothing. But Jackson should get a raise heading into the last year of his deal. That is "normal" and expected if you perform to the level Jackson has.

The Eagles at this point are just being cheap skates with him.

Our #1 reciever is back cause Maclins @ lehigh. But #10 is our HR hitter so unless you can package him & Asante to Det. for Calvin Johnson and a 1st rd pick (which will never happen ) just copy the Santonio Holmes contract and we’ll all be happy.
-----------------
jacksaysfu - Great proposal! What...are you on your 57th Madden franchise to come up with such a brilliant trade?

FYI - the Eagles would need to send DJ, Samuel and THEIR first round for Calvin Johnson. Take off the green rose glasses and get a clue.

The Philadelphia HEAT-LES are going nowhere this year. Vick is going to get his head knocked off and V. Young will crap in his pants and start crying.
------------------------------------------------------------
And what do you think the Ravens are gonna do? Maybe Flacco will cry when he's throwing interceptions to the Steelers. Or Ray Rice will cry when he gets effed up by James Harrison. Come on dude, don't make fun of another team if you know your team's gonna suck.

The "Dream Team" reference is the best gift that VY could have given to the other 3 teams in the division.

DeSean would be dumb to risk (likely 25M in guarantees) playing for dirt this year. Even if he makes it alive through the season, the Eagles are going to franchise him year to year.

He's young enough to sit 2 years in order to set up him, his family, grandkids, great grandkids and great-great grandkids for life.

Lets see if he's got the willpower to stand firm.

This is a case where a guy has overplayed his contract by sooooooo much. Eagles have had 3 years of a pro-bowl receiver by paying his less than a 4th or 5th receiver. As much as I hate people holding out, Eagles clearly need to pay up.
