Giants’ Aaron Ross: I’m not willing to play safety

Ross_Aaron

Aaron Ross is listed as a cornerback for the Giants, but he’s versatile enough that he can also play safety. But just because he can doesn’t mean he will.

Ross told the Star-Ledger that he’s only willing to play cornerback.

I’m not willing to do safety anymore,” Ross said. “Wouldn’t entertain it.”

Frankly, that statement is appalling. If the Giants’ coaches tell Ross that they need him more at safety than they do at cornerback, then he needs to suck it up and play safety.

    If he does not want to play where you want him to, cut him.

    Man, this guy had that really good year and then became just an afterthought.

    Another reason why giants will suck this year, first they cut their O line, then osi is crying for money the giants don’t have to give him, also the safeties said they’d rather play for the jets lmao and now this clown….he’s a bum, cut him!

  4. nfl fan says: Aug 2, 2011 8:04 AM

    So that’s what he looks like from the front. I usually only see him chasing someone.

    Just shut up and play.

  5. tigers182 says: Aug 2, 2011 8:05 AM

    I understand where he’s coming from. Poor guy is stuck making millions of dollars, gets to use the pickup line that he’s a Giant and now is being asked to play safety instead of corner. Move over Job, this guys got you beat.

    The reason he doesn’t want to play safety is obvious…they don’t get paid as much. I remember the Cardinals asking a CB to do that. A year or two later they cut him because his current contract (signed when he was a CB) was too rich for a safety in their opinion. They figured they’d just resign him under a new, smaller contract. All because he did what they asked and made the move to safety. Not saying I agree with Ross’ attitude, but I certainly understand it.

    The Giants are appalling.

    Love how just because someone is an professional athlete and makes a few mil they should just fall in line and do what they are told, if you are a teacher and the principle says hey we need a new lunch cook I spose I should just apron up? If the man is a corner and wants to play corner let him or allow him to do so elsewhere.

    Wow, you’re so smart, you remember the Cardinals doing that to a CB (Antrelle Rolle)…

    Great memory you have there. It was always assumed Rolle would eventually end up a S… what you likely don’t know, is that Rolle plays for the Giants now.

  11. luckyarmpit says: Aug 2, 2011 8:26 AM

    I can’t believe that he’d say something like that… wait, yes I can. He’s just yet another stereotypical overpaid whiny athlete. You have the priviledge to play a game for a living for millions of dollars. I’d think if the head coach told you to run around the field with a chicken on your head, your answer should be, “Yes, Coach!” and just do it, no questions asked.

    Thanks, Aaron. You’re just the latest reason why the Giants are going to stink up the NFL, yet again this year. Looks like I’ll be taking my Giants flag down early again.

  12. jbl429 says: Aug 2, 2011 8:36 AM

    Great, the #4 CB on the team won’t play Safety. I don’t blame him, he’d be the #4 safety there too behind Rolle, Phillips and Deon Grant.

  13. gcsuk says: Aug 2, 2011 8:40 AM

    Then it looks like Ross won’t be playing much this year. As it is, he’s the 4th corner, behind Webster, Thomas, and Prince. Add to that Rolle, Grant, and Phillips already at Safety. How often are you going to see the need for another body in there?

  14. seabreezes51 says: Aug 2, 2011 8:48 AM

    Awesome, you go girl!!

  15. quirtevans says: Aug 2, 2011 8:50 AM

    Given the salary cap, he could be putting himself between a rock and a hard place.

    If the Giants decide they’re paying him too much to be the dime corner, behind Thomas, Webster, and Amukamara, and they cut him right before the season starts, he’ll have to take a pretty big pay cut to find another team.

    Shut up and play, Aaron. You’re making millions of dollars to work six months a year. Don’t alienate your team and the fans by pulling an Albert Haynesworth.

  16. tucknrolle says: Aug 2, 2011 8:53 AM

    Aaron is going to have to compete for the nickel spot against Prince. If I was him I would rather be the back-up safety because the Giants play so much 3 safety with one of them in the box. P.S. Luckyarmpit- you should let your giants flag fly even if they’re 0-16

  17. demo3356 says: Aug 2, 2011 8:54 AM

    Guy is 4th on the depth chart at CB..He is not going to have ANY effect on the Giants season whether he plays, Safety, CB or gets traded..Lets not over react here..He needs to just shut up and be glad he has a roster spot after he has been invisible for 2 years..He keeps running his mouth and he’ll be playing CB in the UFL..

  18. worstposterever says: Aug 2, 2011 8:54 AM

    What is the difference in salary between a good safety and a decent CB?

    The CB makes way more. Pay him like a top CB and I bet he’ll play S.

    I’m sure he’s fine with being cut, he could get signed elsewhere easily if he gets cut soon enough…

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Faulty logic. Asking a math teacher to teach history is a closer analogy.
    This guy is making a lot of money to play football. The team is asking him to play football on a different section of the field. It’s not like they want him to line up at NT. He should just shut up and play or give up the cushy salary for an entry level job.
  20. zaggs says: Aug 2, 2011 8:59 AM
    Smart move Ross. You’re already 3rd on the depth chart (at best). So I guess you’re saying “I don’t want to be on the field more than Terrell Thomas”.
  21. kingjoe1 says: Aug 2, 2011 9:17 AM
    OK, so if Desean Jackson wants more money and he deserves more money, give him more money or let him try to get it elsewhere.
  24. paulsmith107 says: Aug 2, 2011 9:54 AM
    Funny luckyarmpit says they just play a game for a living. See armpit and anyone else who says ignorant stuff about they make millions for playing a game. Most of you fat outta shape turds think that just cause you play beer league softball you think that it’s on the same level as a professional sport. These people spend more time working out and staying in shape and working on their craft than most of you fat outta shape turds do thinking about you next crispy cream I’m willing to bet 90% of the people who say ignorant stuff like that prob couldn’t even finish a forty yard dash without smoking a cigaret much less do it in 4.5 seconds or lift thirty pounds much less 225 so before you say just a game one you could never do their job but they prob could do yours
  25. crosbyhasgonorrhea says: Aug 2, 2011 9:55 AM
    For a guy who is 4th on the depth chart, he better be willing to play somewhere
  26. raijinnokumo says: Aug 2, 2011 10:13 AM
    Forgot he was still a Giant.
  27. tucknrolle says: Aug 2, 2011 10:24 AM
    Note- Deon Grant hasn’t been resigned and neither has Micheal Johnson. So it’s pretty much Rolle, Phillips and Tyler Sash(6th round in 2011)
  28. beantownbilly says: Aug 2, 2011 10:25 AM
    By being willing to play EITHER CB or Safety, he gives himself more opportunities to get on the field. Playing time and the resultant tackles and passes defensed numbers are how he will ultimately maintain his market value. A combination DB who get snaps in the nickle and dime is more valuable than a 4th CB who contributes only on special teams.
  29. tikyle says: Aug 2, 2011 10:29 AM
    Weddle 5 yr $42M or so (highest paid safety)
    Asomugha 5 yr $60M (not even highest paid corner, hell not even the highest contract he’s had personally)
    There is a reason he doesn’t want to be seen as a safety!
