Jarrad Page joins the Eagles

spt-101004-patriotswin.standard AP

With the free-agency market softening and the Eagles becoming the place to be in 2011, Philly is getting a free run at guys who are still looking for chairs as the music moves closer to stopping.

The latest addition is safety Jarrad Page, according to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com.

Page, who spent the offseason in workouts with Glazer’s MMA group, was traded to the Patriots by the Chiefs in 2010.  A full-time starter in 2007 and 2008, injuries limited Page to five games in 2009.  An ugly holdout preceded his trade to New England.

The team has announced the move.  It’s a one-year deal.

Nice move, but where’s the linebacker? I have a feeling that Banner, Roseman and Reid have something up their sleeves.

Jarrad Page was obviously the missing piece to the Dream Team. This signing puts them over the top.

  38. vbe2 says: Aug 2, 2011 9:48 PM

One thing that people are forgetting when talking about how many people the Eagles signed, they let go of all 11 of their free agents from last year. They didn’t even try to sign any of them back.

So they’re replacing a good chunk of players.

  39. suckaaarei says: Aug 2, 2011 9:51 PM

    ———————————————–

So you would consider having 12 picks in the 2012 NFL draft as not building your team through the draft? lol… Just admit you are a bitter fan that your team isn’t making these moves. Eagles are simply taking advantage of the current situation where most teams in the NFL that manage the cap badly can’t spend money in a large free agent class. The Eagles had planned for this moment. They are very smart and I am extremely impressed with the way thier front office goes about it’s business. Eagles are taking a shot at the Superbowl all the while not locking themselves up to long term contracts. This is just brilliant management and anyone who is a true football fan would see that. Well Played Eagles!

Dallas has plans other than the somewhat unknown Jarrad Page. I know of him, but I am a football junkie. The Cowboys are actually looking for a guy who had more than 31 tackles combined the last 2 years, so I expect them to re-sign Sensabaugh and then bring on Abram Elam from Cle (who played under Ryan). If Sensabaugh doesn’t come back, then Brodney Pool is another guy who is a potential, as he also played under Ryan at Cleveland. There is a little more thought into this than Jarrad Page.

We will see if this “dream team” designation holds up, or if the “team is dreaming” becomes the reality – until I see the results, I lean towards the latter.

If they could use any of those draft picks to build their current team you might have an argument.

Honestly, they should just give up trying to draft defensive players though. Who will start for them this season that was drafted by them? Trent Cole? Who else? Honest question. Seems to me that Jenkins, Asomugha and Babin were brought in to start. We know Samuel wasn’t drafted by the Eagles. What about these guys?

    ____________________
Sensabaugh isn’t any good and you know it. Forget the dream team stuff, the Eagles FO is just doing a very good job of bringing in players to boost areas where they were weak last year. The two biggest areas being the secondary and pass rush. Once FAs saw what they’ve put together, however, a lot of them seem to want on board now. So, the good deals the Eagles made before have opened up unexpected opportunities for them to add depth to an already solid roster.

The slowing FA market has led some players to accept one year deals so they can hit the FA market next year when it won’t be so cluttered. Many of those players are looking to land on teams they believe to be highly competitive (like the Saints and Eagles) because it will give them a chance at a SB ring, and because being on those teams will put them in the spotlight more…giving them a better chance at a payday next year.

Result? Ealges released Harrison, and upgrade McCoy’s backup by bringing in Ronnie Brown on a 1 yr, $1 million contract. Eagles have young safeties and released Mikkel, so bring in Jarrad Page on a one year deal. Winston Justice (RT) has had some injury problems, so the Eagles bring in Harris from Denver (and Harris may actually be better than Justice anyway). Eagles let oft-injured Jean-Gilles go and bring in Mathis as backup G. All of these moves add depth, and leave the Eagles in the driver’s seat by limiting the length of the contracts. This way the Eagles can decide if they want to bring them back after this season or replace them with one of their numerous draft picks or another option.

Better yet, none of the players they brought in are head cases or trouble makers, so it’s not like they’re trashing their locker room or mortgaging their future to make these moves. If the Eagles are your team’s rival, or if you’re just afraid of what they’re putting together, then feel free to hate. What no one with half a brain can deny, however, is the masterful moves the Eagles FO have been making, or the foresight they’ve had to position themselves to be able to make these moves just when the NFL sees it’s richest FA class in my lifetime.

  55. pftlhp says: Aug 2, 2011 11:07 PM

Lighten up, Francis. The “dream team” designation has gotten legs from being used at every opportunity by those who don’t like the Eagles. Understandable. Young used the term very likely out of emotion in the moment. He’s probably excited to be on the team and get a fresh start… lots of big signings by a team that prepared for the opportunity… and he responded with an insignificant comment. If Banner or Reid used it, I could maybe see the point in bashing but c’mon… enough with the “dream team” whining. It’s juvenile. I doubt anyone in Philadelphia (besides Young) is using that term.

Oh, yes, so sad. We truly appreciate your tender feelings for our poor, misguided team. In your honor, we’ll try to hold our heads up and muddle through. And just to show our sincerity, after a few more signings we’ll just tell all the rest of the players that we’re sorry; they’ll have to go back to their teams.

  57. tangysizzl says: Aug 2, 2011 11:30 PM

There is one team in this league that can take full credit for this desperation spending spree that the Eagles are on and it doesn’t take a genius to figure it out.

What team both started your season and ended your season with a loss? What team has more quality receiving options than even Philly can cover at this point.

I’ll give you a hint, they won the SB last year.

  58. listenupcupcake says: Aug 3, 2011 12:25 AM

Today was a good day for the Iggs. Started with weaknesses at 4 positions, and swung FA deals at 3 of them (RB, S, RT).

Now if they can get a good veteran LB (or 2), I’ll be very happy….

OTOH, even if they don’t, the FO has been so good this year at the trade/FA game, and so spot on with understanding team needs and moving to address them in ways that should pay off on the field but without creating salary cap hell, that I’m willing to trust their judgment.

(Never thought I’d say that before this week.)

  59. skulman7 says: Aug 3, 2011 12:39 AM

Although I agree GB played a big part in their decision to be aggressive, I would hardly call this a “desperation spending spree”.

All FA’s with the exception of Nnamdi that the Eagles signed are either one year deals or can be terminated after 1 year if the Eagles choose. Despite the signings, they are still in better Cap shape than most of the league not just for this year, but for years to come.

They are still a very young team and the Eagles now have two 2s, two 4s, two 5s and two 6s in 2012 draft.

They signed the FA’s to win now, but this team is built to compete for quite a few years. Definitely not Boom or Bust, and definitely not “desperation”. Smart football movies by a smart front office.

  60. icelovinbrotha215 says: Aug 3, 2011 12:42 AM

Shouldn’t every team be desperate to win a SB? What’s the point of playing if you aren’t? The moves were necessary. We address major needs on both sides of the ball. And we still have more holes to feel. Those bashing the Eagles for their moves would be praising their respective teams if their GMs did the same. Is the SB a lock for the Eagles? Of course not. But I’m liking our chances day by day. Fly Eagles Fly. On the road to VICKtory….

I don’t see anything wrong with making your team fit to beat the best teams in the NFL. This is what teams do every year. This offseason was just a unique situation. It’s as simple as that.

    ===================================

Well, since you asked, 7 of the 12 current starters on the Eagles defense will have been home grown.

    Trent Cole
    Antonio Dixon
    Jamar Chaney
    Casey Matthews
    Moise Fokou
    Nate Allen
    Kurt Coleman

In fact, that list includes four 7th rounders and one undrafted player, which even someone as challenged as you are must admit is an indicator of the ability to develop players.

We get it, you hate the Eagles. Try not to let your hate make you leave a trail of senseless posts in your wake.

The Eagles make the play-offs pretty much every year, and that is witha bunch of misfit players, Andy Reid makes look amazing. All you guys quote that spending doesn’t work (Dallas, Redskins) spending doesn’t work but spending properly does. Andy Reid is going to take this ALL STAR team and make them do things not even I think are possible, So in short save your tears you are going to need them whenever you play the birds. GO EAGLES GO!

  72. tangysizzl says: Aug 3, 2011 9:00 PM

I was just playin Philly fans but its hard not to think the Packers are their reason for aquiring both Nnamdi and DRC when you already had Asante. Not to mention Cullen Jenkins and Donald Lee.

Problem with that is GB now has even more quality pass catchers with the return of Finley and the addition of rookie Randall Cobb.

Also the Pack now has 3 very good options at RB and Cobb who will ramp up their punt return game which was virtually non existant the last 10 years or so.

Looking forward to getting back to some real football, hopefully the teams get to meet in the playoffs.
