Jay Feely: Cardinals players want Braylon Edwards

Braylon Edwards hasn’t had many suitors in free agency, but there’s at least one NFL locker room where he’s wanted.

Arizona Cardinals kicker Jay Feely, who played with Edwards with the Jets and who played at Michigan before Edwards was there, says he has reached out to Edwards. Feely told “Burns and Gambo” on Sports 620 KTAR in Phoenix that Cardinals safety Kerry Rhodes and receiver Larry Fitzgerald have told Edwards they want him, too.

“We’re trying to convince him that he should come here, but it’s a matter of whether the finances work and what money someone else is going to offer him,” Feely said.

At this point, if the Cardinals are offering Edwards anything more than the league-minimum salary, those finances might work for him. Arizona appears to be just about the only place where Edwards is wanted.

They should all kick in and pay him.

  4. scoboscobs says: Aug 2, 2011 5:52 PM

If the Vikings don’t sign Edwards for just over the league minimum, I’d be just a little bit upset.

  5. johnjosephyossarian says: Aug 2, 2011 5:52 PM

Would be good for his fantasy value.

Whats rh over/under on when he will end up in a Phoenix courtroom? 5 months?

  8. dk56 says: Aug 2, 2011 5:55 PM

Wonder if he has a license to carry a concealed spoon in Arizona??

  9. riverhorsey says: Aug 2, 2011 5:56 PM

Raiders could use a tight end…

  10. dcbassguy says: Aug 2, 2011 5:58 PM

If he’s going to sign for minimum money, I would think he would go somewhere more established than Arizona. Playing cheap, usually means being on a quest for a ring….. I can’t see zona being ready for that at this point.

Kevin Kolb needs all the help he can get.

  12. grandpoopah says: Aug 2, 2011 6:06 PM

Cardinals players want Braylon Edwards. Why?

  13. melonvoxveritas says: Aug 2, 2011 6:06 PM

I was spiritually and intrinsically against 5-hour energy until I saw Braylon Edwards advertise it.

I’ve since denounced being a Jehovah Witness…so he’s saved one life.

  14. offsideburns says: Aug 2, 2011 6:07 PM

Jay Feely and Braylon Edwards, enough said

  15. scudbot says: Aug 2, 2011 6:10 PM

Go to Seattle. $8M guaranteed and you don’t even have to try out.

  16. jcjets says: Aug 2, 2011 6:13 PM

is he really only going to get the league minimum? he had a good year last year..

  17. terrellblowens says: Aug 2, 2011 6:14 PM

If he behaved himself he could be a nice target for Kolb… key word being if.

  18. clownsfan says: Aug 2, 2011 6:15 PM

Aren’t these the same fans that wanted Derek Anderson last year? Rrrriiiight…

  19. august1969 says: Aug 2, 2011 6:19 PM

They definately could use him. Could be the best value in free agency for the season at this point. Fitzgerald, Edwards, Stucki? They’re pretty thin at WR. Why did they trade Hightower for a low pick? That’s the puzzler for me.

  20. deddmunnie says: Aug 2, 2011 6:26 PM

The Players in Arizona want Braylon Edwards to play for the Cardinals???

Seattle, St Louis and San Francisco would have to agree!

  21. tashkalucy says: Aug 2, 2011 6:28 PM

    The questions is……

Does he have the correct “essence” for Phoenix?

  22. thetooloftools says: Aug 2, 2011 6:30 PM

Bray Bray… this is the hourglass.
I just took one bad additude down (Randy Moss) and you may be next.
    Shut up and play.
You were too cool for Cleveland, but New York sends you packing?
    What does that tell you?
That tells me you don’t get it.

  23. deadeye says: Aug 2, 2011 6:33 PM

Braylon is going to the Ravens. Mark it down.

  24. davikes says: Aug 2, 2011 6:35 PM

You’ve hit bottom as a WR when some team’s kicker is reaching out to you.

  25. rambo08 says: Aug 2, 2011 6:37 PM

Edwards would probably drop the pen when signing the contract.

  26. TheDPR says: Aug 2, 2011 6:37 PM

His 15 minutes are up. There are plenty of guys who can do what he does without the baggage.

Why is it the diva WRs are so rarely as good as they think they are?

  27. trickbunny says: Aug 2, 2011 6:39 PM

If only they’d kept Derek Anderson and then brought in Braylon. I’d be ROFL.

  28. waldoampere says: Aug 2, 2011 7:03 PM

So the only player willing to speak up publicly on his behalf is a kicker?

  29. hobartbaker says: Aug 2, 2011 7:34 PM

Cards want Edwards, the camp food is crap down there and they need someone to shake up the kitchen staff.

  30. arzcardinals says: Aug 2, 2011 7:36 PM

AZ fans are all on board. He’s a weapon on and off the field. Winning matters, so sign him to a 2 year 3 mill deal…bump it up a little if need be.

He’s the last piece of the puzzle.

  31. jacksaysfu says: Aug 2, 2011 7:40 PM

He’s kinda talented but this just proves that diva era is coming to an end.

  32. ny82jy says: Aug 2, 2011 7:50 PM

Why do the cardinals go after every available jets player? First they sign faneca then trade for Rhodes then pick up feely and now are gonna get Edwards. Im waiting for them to get Brodney Pool next or Shaun Ellis..

  33. 23chameleons says: Aug 2, 2011 7:55 PM

    Fitz just tweeted:

“we’re talking about our idiot kicker who got liquored up and ran his mouth off…”

  34. green41563 says: Aug 2, 2011 7:56 PM

    Take a stab at it.

  35. melikefootball says: Aug 2, 2011 7:58 PM

I thought more of the head coach than to want this TROUBLE!

  36. andyreidisfat says: Aug 2, 2011 8:14 PM

I thought they were building a team in AZ. why would they bring in a big problem like this. Malcom Floyd will give you the same production and less headaches

  37. kilo0986 says: Aug 2, 2011 9:41 PM

I bet they do, who else is gonna drive after a long night at the club

  38. chicophilly says: Aug 2, 2011 10:29 PM

Not understanding the hate on Edwards? The guy is a big play receiver who just spent a couple season catching passes from a horrible QB. And not for nothing but he really hasn’t ever had a good QB throwing to him in his NFL career

  39. theytukrjobs says: Aug 2, 2011 10:29 PM

The Vikings have a newly opened position for an over rated player with baggage, not to mention some sketchy depth at the WR position.

  40. rethinklogic says: Aug 2, 2011 11:46 PM

That’s amazing! A reporter actually wanted to jay Feely’s opinion

  41. jsrdc says: Aug 3, 2011 12:01 AM

I hear Sherriff Joe Arpaio would like to have Edwards too. Make it happen! I hope you like Pink, Braylon.

  42. rickycubane says: Aug 3, 2011 12:22 AM

id love to see this happen, especially for kevin kolb .. i want the cards to do well i really like whisenhunt and as an Eagles fan i know the Cards got fleeced in that trade for kolb but if he has edwards to throw to i think he can get them to the playoffs in that awful division in which he may be the best QB

  43. freedomispopular says: Aug 3, 2011 12:35 AM

Only in Arizona does the kicker publicly lobby for a player.

  44. Umar says: Aug 3, 2011 2:55 AM

Is it just me or do kickers think they are starting matter more and more? Just stay quiet and make sure the kick is good and everything will be fine.

  45. ur2smooth says: Aug 3, 2011 1:53 PM

They were teamates on the Jets, they are both Alum from Michigan. That is the connection who cares if he is kicker. Braylon Edwardswould be a good number #2 reciever. He would blow up with Fitz on the other side of the field.
