Jeremy Maclin arrives at Eagles camp

New York Giants v Philadelphia Eagles Getty Images

During most years, the absence of a young starting receiver at Eagles camp due to a mysterious illness would be treated as big news.

This year, Jeremy Maclin wasn’t even the most famous absent young starting wide receiver on the team.  And there have been a few other big stories in Philadelphia to distract fans.

Maclin’s illness will take center stage over the next day because the third-year receiver has arrived in camp.  The Eagles won’t say if he’ll return to practice Wednesday.

Here’s all we know: Maclin lost 15 pounds during the offseason due to a viral illness described as “mono-like.”  He said he gained the weight back in May, but his absence to start camp indicated the problem lingered much longer.

The Eagles did a good job keeping the Nnamdi Asomugha pursuit a secret, and the same is true for Maclin’s condition. We’ll have to see if the Eagles provide any clarity on the issue in the coming days.

As a Redskins fan, I am jealous of how well-run an organization the Eagles are, and at how good a coach Andy Reid is.

Some might argue Maclin is the true number 1 WR in Philly

hope j-mac feels better. 1 receiver in, 1 to go. LETS GO EAGLES, pay DeSean Jackson!

    Here’s the analogy:
You’re like an 80 year old grouch reminiscing about the “good old days” and we’re like 21 year old studs about to enter our senior year in college and bang a lot of freshman chicks. Our whole life is in front of us and yours is in the rear view mirror. You can’t deflate our egos.

That hurt so much i had to watch the highlights of the last Eagles-Redskins game to make me feel better. Good luck this year, you’re gonna need it.

Love my Eagles as you guys love your team.
    I understand the competitive “hate”
But, you would want your team to get the best players possible too

Both WRs need to get some reps in
Paper Champions are for stat freaks and nobody cares
I’m happy with what we got (so far)
You can’t say the Eagles haven’t been a winning org.
We have won the 2nd most games behind the Patriots since Andy Reid Era (most in NFC)
We are the class of the NFC (and the East) and contenders every year
We’re successful to an extent and winners to an extent

2 main flaws are time management and not winning a Superbowl
Let’s get real here, it takes a good front office, staff, coaching, players, and some luck (injuries and some breaks here and there)
If your team has won a ring (or multiple) of course the rest of us are jealous
kudos to you if you got to celebrate
although i feel every year is the year, I hope this is finally it

Keep livin’ in the past, skins fans. How long ago was that superbowl – 20 years? How about the playoffs? How about a winning record?

    Enjoy your team.

Im not a redskin fan or an eagle fan, i am a packer fan. I am not in my eighties but i am in my forties and I gotta say this about your analogy:………
    That was awesome!

  18. eaglesfootballfan says: Aug 2, 2011 3:41 PM

Didn’t the Eagles put 59 points on the redskins last time. At the rate the Eagles are going now, I can see them putting up 89.

  19. laeaglefan says: Aug 2, 2011 3:47 PM

I have to think that if they really expected Maclin to miss any significant time that they’d make more of an effort to lure DeSean Jackson into camp, even if it meant caving on his demands for a new contract.

Lol! Idiot. Hmmm, over the past 10 years, which set of teams are more appealing? The skins, capitals, wizards, and nationals or the eagles, flyers, sixers and phillies? Hell, even the past 15 years. Get off the board, stay in your basement, and sulk about realizing the fact that you live in and around washington and are a fan of all 4 of those sport affiliates. Terrible.

  21. laeaglefan says: Aug 2, 2011 3:49 PM

It doesn’t matter how many championships the Redskins or the Giants or the Cowboys have won in years past. What matters is who wins THIS year. Nothing else really matters.

  22. phillyfan4ever says: Aug 2, 2011 3:56 PM

    @ztvmid

How are the Eagles fans the “worst” in the NFL. They are passionate and educated about sports, consistantly support their teams (sellouts) and demand nothing but championships

Sounds like horrible fans to me!

Wow, an uneducated Skins fan who lacks general football knowledge as well as the ability to do simple math.

    Eagles have 3 total champioships.

  26. nygdefenserules says: Aug 2, 2011 4:05 PM

First off, Maclin is the best receiver on the team! Personally, I think Avant is second. He has better hands and runs better routes than DeSean Jackson. D-Jax is a special player – because of his explosive speed, he can score from ANYWHERE at ANYTIME. Non-biased opinion here!

On to the other rants on this thread: As my ID suggests, I absolutely HATE (competitively) the Eagles. I can’t stand when they win – I can’t stand it when they sign big name players to make my fall miserable….Needless to say, I think I am in for a miserable season. My Giants will be ok….maybe 9-7 or 10-6 and a wildcard – and that is positive thinking.

The Eagles went out this off-season and gave Andy Reid all the possible tools (except a tall receiver and linebackers) to win. They have THREE great corners (possibly all in the top 10) – They FINALLY have a real defensive tackle (first since Corey Simon!) – that have two Defensive ends – and a back-up QB that can play (and actually will have to!) Kudos to them – even though it has caused me sleepless nights and hypertension.

Yes, we all know they have NO Super Bowl trophies of the 9 or 10 in the NFC East….We all know their choking history in the playoffs…..This is their best shot since the McNabb – T.O season in 2004.

If Eagles’ fans are so awful, why do literally thousands of Washington season ticket holders sell their tickets to them, allowing Eagles supporters to outnumber Skins supporters in their own house?

Hmmmmm……How exactly do you get 2 championships in one year? I assume that is 1948. I don’t see any records for 1848 on the football books. Probably would hold off calling anyone dumb a$$e$

  30. xxtucknrolle88 says: Aug 2, 2011 4:24 PM

Coming from another giants fan I couldn’t agree more with what nygdefenserules has just said. If the Eagles are going to do it, this is their best chance to do so.

For the record the Eagles have won three NFL Championships, ’48, ’49, and ’60 (beating the Lombardi Packers).

Its comical reading Philly posts. Based on the arrogance displayed, you’d swear you were the other PA team.

Since the Superbowl has been invented, you’ve never won it. Thats your only goal. When an organization tries to accomplish a goal for an entire humans lifetime, and can’t, we have a word for that. Failure.

Built for the regular season, and you’re happy with that.

The Eagles are the choke artists of the century.

    Good talk.
