During most years, the absence of a young starting receiver at Eagles camp due to a mysterious illness would be treated as big news.
This year, Jeremy Maclin wasn’t even the most famous absent young starting wide receiver on the team. And there have been a few other big stories in Philadelphia to distract fans.
Maclin’s illness will take center stage over the next day because the third-year receiver has arrived in camp. The Eagles won’t say if he’ll return to practice Wednesday.
Here’s all we know: Maclin lost 15 pounds during the offseason due to a viral illness described as “mono-like.” He said he gained the weight back in May, but his absence to start camp indicated the problem lingered much longer.
The Eagles did a good job keeping the Nnamdi Asomugha pursuit a secret, and the same is true for Maclin’s condition. We’ll have to see if the Eagles provide any clarity on the issue in the coming days.
