Check Vince Young’s win/loss record as a pro. If he wasn’t a head case, he’d still be in Tennessee winning games. Cam is not a head case.

-----------------------

His win-loss record in the playoffs is 0-1. That'd be alright if it was just his rookie season, but it's not just his rookie season. His overall win-loss record is great, I'll admit it, but are you telling me that Fox would have won the conflict between the two if his skills were in dispute? His QB Rating is a career 75.7 and his best year ratings-wise (2010), his W-L was 4-4.

I don't hate Vince Young - I wanted the Vikings to go after him, to be honest - but to call him an example of the argument that "championship college quarterbacks win in the NFL" is specious at best. Particularly because it doesn't prove my argument wrong - 2 of 20 have even MADE the playoffs. If 1 does well, it still proves that winning the BCS is a bad argument. Incidentally, the other QB was Brian Griese.

I don't think Cam Newton will turn out to be completely terrible, but I don't think he will be nearly as good as some people are priming him to be. Will people please stop pointing to the BCS as if it means something?

Good pick for the Panthers. You haters are silly.

He will have a solid O-line, very solid running game, solid defense (and defensive coaching), good receiving tight ends (Olsen was great trade aqu.), and Steve Smith.

Cam Newton is as big as most linebackers, especially in his division. He will punish them and wear them down, just as much as he takes.

The Panthers are going to run all day, and try and control the ball. Nothing wrong with that if you can do it well. Tough to win the NFC South, though. Newton will sell tickets, and he will make the Panthers a better team. The last real QB the Panthers have had is Delhomme, and I think he is with the worst of the worst in the NFL at QB. He just lost it, all of a sudden.

If he scored on plays like 34 or 36 then he did his job. Football isn't rocket science. Bill Belichick has been successful against teams with complex offenses because offense are thinking instead of reacting. If a simple offense will get you 51 tds then why make it difficult?

It still shocks me that Newton was drafted #1. He was amazing in college. But you know what, that doesn’t really matter at the QB position. It really doesn’t.

-------------------------------
You have no idea what you're taliking about. Every player in the NFL played in college and were drafted based on what they did there and how they projected moving forward. There is not but a handful of teams that would NOT have drafted Cam. GB and St Louis were two for sure. The others would have had to consider it.

The Titans said “wow” about Vince Young too.

He was always encouraged to run but didn’t do much of it.

Not to mention he didn’t know the playbook, called the wrong plays, and even called plays that weren’t even in the playbook.
-----------------
If I'm not mistaken, VY is still in the league so what's your point?

And, while many of you are mocking Cam's intellect based on nothing more than ignorant stereotyping, Jake Locker is wearing a wristband with his calls and no one seems to care. But Cam is being pressured to devour the playbook in a short space of time while being labeled as "stupid and dumb" like his predecessors, who just happens to be black like him.

And some of you really wonder why many folks who read these comments on this site about Cam, raise an eyebrow.

Newton was a run first QB in college. They rarely succeed in the NFL. He ran an option read offense, which is about the worst offense to prepare you for the NFL outside of maybe the veer. All of the stats he compiled and accomplishments came while running an offense not even close to what works in the NFL.

The only way this guy succeeds is if they run a special offense just for him and it actually works. But the problem is that even brute college QB's that can take extreme beatings at that level usually get knocked out when they start putting their heads down in the NFL and trying to legitimately run for power and finish runs.

This guy most likely is a 3 or 4 year project before he is any good. We could be wrong though, but if we are it won't be because he was good in college. It will be because his skill set translated to the NFL in a way that his college experiences alone could have never predicted.

Spread qb with very few starts. Thats why people are skeptical. His throwing motion is miles better than tebow but he still has had almost no experience under center dropping back and hitting 2nd, third or even fourth reads in a matter of seconds with huge alarmingly fast d linemen in his face. As far as his running i think he will buy time and make some plays with his legs but he is not and will never be the difference maker on the edge that mike vick is. Hes just not fast enough. Those spread run plays that worked in college fail in the sunday afternoon league

The Titans said "wow" about Vince Young too.

He was always encouraged to run but didn't do much of it.

Not to mention he didn't know the playbook, called the wrong plays, and even called plays that weren't even in the playbook.

And now Cam is supposed to be another running QB who will change the NFL? Huh..I've heard it before...usually by BSPN.

Can't believe some of you are labeling this kid as stupid and what not. Yet it seems as if you take your marching orders from folks who get paid to spin news for a living..Go figure.

Yes, Andrew Luck will be SO much better than Cam simply because the media said so. And if this college season doesn't turn out as expected for Andrew, it won't be his fault cause we NEVER blame certain folks for anything. Especially when the media tell us not too.

WRONG! Jackwagon. You would actually need to win 3 games to improve this team, as we went 2-14 last year. Is that such a hard stat to look up??

Why do people keep pointing to the BCS championship as a reason that Cam Newton can somehow do well in the NFL? In the last 20 years, only two quarterbacks with the BCS title or AP #1 team in college led their team to a playoff in the NFL. And one lost that game.

They all played against "tough opponents" in "tough divisions," and yet somehow that didn't translate. Are people's memories so bad that they forget that the exact same crap happened for Vince Young? Now he's a 1-year backup. Say what you will about whether or not he was unfairly forced out, the fact of the matter is, if he was as big of a winner as some people are predicting Cam Newton to be, this wouldn't be an issue.

McElroy, Tebow, Matt Flynn, Chris Leak, and Matt Mauck also "owned the SEC" and won national championships doing.

Face it, the NFL is hard.
