Jets coach Rex Ryan says he’s interested in former Browns and Jets receiver Braylon Edwards, at the right price. That price could be paid in the form of bail money.
Despite a Monday report from FOX 2 in Detroit suggesting that Edwards had no role in a fight that allegedly involved two members of his entourage assaulting bar employees with a knife and a fork, respectively, Jay M. Grossman of the Birmingham Eccentric reports that Braylon was involved in the brouhaha. Specifically, the proprietors of the South Bar in Birmingham, Michigan issued a statement implicating the former Wolverine: “Braylon Edwards was present and involved, but it’s an ongoing police investigation so at this time we don’t have any further information.”
Birmingham police explain that Edwards wasn’t arrested on the scene because police were too busy breaking up the fight to notice whether Edwards was involved.
For now, two of Braylon’s cousins have been charged with felonious assault. One bouncer at the bar was slashed on the hand with a pocket knife. Another was stabbed in the neck with a fork.
Employees of the bar privately told Grossman that Edwards was encouraging his cousins to fight. Also present at the time was former Wolverine star and NBA star (and ESPN employee) Jalen Rose, who reportedly tried to stop the fight.
Edwards has more than his employee prospects hinging on this one. He’s still on probation for assault in Cleveland, where he recently faced the possibility of jail time based on a guilty to DUI in New York.
