Did Hoge watch tape, you ask? Darn skippy! He's working extra hard. Merril Hoge was sitting watching (yep, sitting and watching at the same time!) tape with unparalleled enthusiasm, exclamation point. Even more impressive, he was apparently watching tape "off" (not of) the back of the bucking bronco offense. What did he see on that tape? Who knows? Who cares? The important thing is he watched it, and he SAW SOMETHING which only he as an analyst is able to see. After seeing this SOMETHING, he grew embarrassed, and soiled his trousers, because he was thinking about someone else thinking about winning with Tim Tebow! He was shamefaced, and his cheeks grew pink with abject humiliation over this ludicrous concept: winning with Tebow! He was so mortified the occasion demanded (in lieu of explanation of his points) two exclamation points!! Orton or Tebow? Tebow = embarrassing!! Wait!! Then, Orton went 1-4. oops, question mark, exclamation point. Then, Tebow went 8-5, double exclamation point, and led the Broncos to a first round win over the Steelers: the biggest win for the Broncos since 2005, triple exclamation point... Game. Set. Match.
So, Mr. Hoge? Embarrassing to think the Broncos could win with Tebow? If I were you, Mr. Hoge, I'd be embarrassed by that Tweet!! When will Mr. Hoge take credit for his failed prophecy punctuated by a double exclamation point? When will he provide explanation of his points that led to his erroneous exclamation points? At what point does this man lose credibility on the subject of Tebow? As a trusthworthy analyst? After being wrong, exclamation point? No? What about after being wrong repeatedly with repeated exclamation points?

Merril Hoge.......Merril Hoge ???????

Did he win a state high school championship?

Did he make the Army high school all-america team?

Was he a first team All-America quarterback?

Did he win the Heisman?

Did he win the SEC Title and MVP?

Did he win a national championship?

Did he score more touchdowns in college than Herschel Walker?

Did he win the most prestigious awards offered to college football players?

Oh, wait a minute. I think that was Tim Tebow!

The "awkward" throwing motion was apparently good enough to accomplish the above feats, playing in the toughest conference in the land, and against the best teams in the country from other regions.

I suppose that none of the football people who voted Tebow those honors were as smart as Merril, right Merril?

The on-field accomplishments never fooled that cagey sage. He thinks that he is smarter than all of those other folks.

After all, he played at that perennial powerhouse Idaho State, was ignored until the later rounds (261st) and made fans suffer through a lackluster career as a nominal running back.

What a jerk. He is a whining loser of a man.

T Tebow in his 3 starts in 2010 (which is hardly enough to make any kind of judgement on his ability to succeed) completed 50.0% of his passes, averaged 8.0 yards per attempt and scored 4 passing touchdowns surpassing K Orton's 2010 stats in Avg Yrds Per Attempt and Avg passing TD's per game. He completed 67% of his 4 year college career passes. He must have some skills or abilities to learn new skills.
What do you have against Tebow and why do you not want him to be given the chance to succeed.
Right now the question of whether or not he has what it takes to play in the NFL is literally in the hands of his coach, who did not draft him and may not want him on the team. It may not matter how much Tebow improves, if Fox doesn't want him, he will not be given any opportunities to prove himself or his marketability in a trade.

@tomosbornesretirementcostjoepaatitle:

First off, you need to change your handle. Osborne retired in 1997. Penn State went undefeated without getting the national title in 1994. And that happened because Penn State didn’t beat a top 10 team that season, neither during the regular season (the Big 10 was really bad, and PSU played no one OOC) or the bowl game (Oregon was 8-4).

Talk about revisionism? I'll get on Tebow in a second.

Everyone ...and that apparently that doesn't include yourself....KNEW that the national press had the one-eyed stiffy for Osborne to get his elusive national title BEFORE he retires, after SO many times of screwing the pooch when he HAD his chances many times over. Including the fact that Paterno had pulled off one of the greatest upsets in college football history (up to that point) just seven seasons earlier with his LAST national title.

The Fix was in for Ol' Doctor Tom. So friggin obvious!

PSU didn't play anyone out of conference?

How bout #14 USC getting trucked in the Kickoff classic, 38-14?

Didn't play anyone in the top 10? I guess #5 Michigan didn't count either, in Ann Arbor?

How about Nebraska playing MORE than one ranked opponent in their own conference?

The national press couldn't stop spackling the walls with their JJ after Nebraska took their bowl game away from .........Gino Torretta? ARE YOU FRIGGIN KIDDING ME? Miami was No.3 on reputation alone and the Big East was an absolute JOKE! Their signature win? #23 Boston College AT HOME. But that was AFTER getting TRUCKED buy unranked Washington AT HOME, 38-20.

Please stop with your obvious Big8/12 bias. And get your facts straight.

Paterno deserved that NC just as much and maybe even more, evidenced by the players that had long careers in the NFL (Collins, Engram, Brady, Hartings).

Almost forgot....

Tebow can't play. Just another airsprayed SEC QB that will be out of the league in 3 years. (Yes, that does include Cam Newton)

(shaking head)........Gino Torretta...whew!

Whole lotta experts here - most saying Tebow doesn't have the game for the NFL.

They might be right - but I've got two words for them:

Doug Flutie.

(a perfectly serviceable starting QB when finally given a shot - he ain't goin' to the HOF, but neither is Orton, is he?)

How 'bout we let Tebow have a shot? If he sucks, so be it. But how 'bout we let that issue be decided on the field?

Meril Hogge’s own ESPN Network’s new “Realistic Game-time” NOT “Practice-Time” Quarterback Total QBR ranking, ranks Tim Tebow at 16th in league @ 54.3 versus Orton at 21st in league @ 46.6. Perhaps Meril is now ashamed of his run-amok attack,
or does he have another agenda, or reason for his un-restrained animosity toward Tebow?

The only reason he's an "analyst/expert" is that he played in the NFL. Would E$PN hire him otherwise? Exactly.

Tebow getting drafted in the first round was a JOKE! AN ABSOLUTE JOKE!
Tebow was a good kid in college.
The NFL is a man's league and a pro league.
Being a good guy is not enough to cut it in the NFL.....PERIOD!
Tebow will be out of the NFL before ya know it......Unless he converts to a tight end or something. he's simply not pro material at quarterback.
He should simply be thankful for the first round money he did not deserve.
MERRILL HODGE IS 100% CORRECT!!!

Does anyone know if ANY NFL player this past 2010 regular season, had a better Rushing TD / Rushing Attempt record (6 / 43 > or a TD For Every 7.17 Rushing Attempts ) then Tim Tebow?

I wonder how well Meril Hogge did in his rookie year - He must have at least led the
league also - to have such an Elitist attitude toward Tebow at this early point in his career.

The reality is that it all depends on what stats you chose to remember or what stats you chose to forget will help ensure that you get your verbal diatribe and prejudiced agenda across.

I believe Tebow also was in pretty good relative QB company in his stats for Passing TDs per Passing Attempt.

Meril - why not look in the mirror - and - how it was with you, before you continue your unwarranted attack? and just back off..

I have nothing against Tebow and no biased reason to support him (I.e. being a Broncos fan) and thus haven't followed this whole bore of a situation very closely.

Maybe one day this guy will be a great NFL QB, I don't know how anyway, save nosterdamous, could truley say one way or another.

But I just watched un-edited highlights of QB/WR/RBs from Broncos camp, and anyone who thinks he is ready to start right now is out of their mind. Its not like he had a couple of bad throws, aside from a 5 yard route to a TE I did not see a SINGLE accurate throw. Right now, the guy is all over the place. During one series he was overthrowing receivers by 10 yards, in another he was throwing it straight into the dirt and bouncing it to them. And all of this is in shorts with no one pressuring him.

He has a LONG way to go.

bottom line... Boncos and Elway see something.

The worst mechanics, non-defensive reading, no footwork having, lucky, short, no sex having, running QB to be picked in the first round.

I'll take Elway's opinion over Merrill's on QBs any day.

Give him a chance ....because the sooner he flops and is out of the league the sooner we will be free of his sickening religious fundamentalism. What coach would want a QB/leader who feels that an imaginary sky-god is more responsible for success than hard work , coaching and teammates. For every win that is attributed to god there certainly must be a corresponding loss attributable to god. A .500 record gets coaches fired regularly!!

Orton is a solid QB, it seems all he does is manage the game and gives you a solid chance to win…Why would Denver trade him? LOL

Tebow has a lot to prove and that’s a good thing, but in the NFL you can’t get away with a lot of the stuff he did in college. If he was smart he would become a TE like Hines Ward did and have a great career.
===================================

Totally agree! I can't believe that how many Pro Bowls Hines has made as a TE while still maintaining his stats and gaining Super Bowl MVP as a WR. Is there anything he can't do?

@ tradeassociation

If you compare the lists of NFL prospects drafted by the two schools over the last 4 years, as well as the positions those players played there is a massive difference.

We are talking 23 UF players compared to 5 UW players. Two of the UW players were offensive players, thus players that surrounded Locker, as D players do not directly impact a QB's play. Locker is one and Louis Rankin in '09 is the other.

Compare this to the 11 offensive players that have been drafted from UF since '07, including Tebow. While crap may have been a strong word, anyone playing at DI level obviously has some talent, I still submit to you the obvious fact that Locker had much less talent than Tebow did around him.

I am not discussing Cutler, because that was not part of my original point and I will not tangent, other than to say he had at least one, if not two, NFL receivers on his Vandy team (too lazy to confirm the numbers at this point).

I'm well aware of the inaccuracy in my name. It was derived from a convo I had with a friend of mine regarding that subject. He fully believed what my name implies. The absurdity of it all made me use it as my name when PFT switched over to word press.

But thank you for your insight.

As for the team quitting on Willingham, it is not like Tyrone had great results at Notre Dame, and he is truly making a difference now at the coaching gig he holds. Oh wait...

Are you insinuating that Willingham is Meyers equal?

As for tactics and gameplans I honestly cannot assess what UW has done or will do. I live in PA, and we get very few West Coast games so my knowledge of that program is admittedly limited.

But I can say with all certainty that Locker did not have two NFL top 20 draft picks on his O-Line at any point in his career.

Who cares about his throwing motion? Nobody has a more jacked up throwing motion than Phillip Rivers and no on doubts that he is one of the best QBs in the game. The accuracy has to be there, or he won't be good. The DBs in the NFL are just too good for bad throws.

The key to leading is bringing out the best in others. If he can, then he'll be good. If not....

All he's done so far in his life is win.

Poor Broncos fans………..McDaniels set you guys back years.

You used to have Cutler, Hillis, B Marsh, Royal and Scheffler. A top 5 NFL offense the McDummy ruined. All he had to do was revamp the defense when he came but the arrogant little weasel insisted on installing his own system and shipped all the best offensive players out of town. He better never get another head coaching job in the NFL.

==================================

Top five. It was the number two offense in the league with a bunch of kids. Eight of the eleven starters were 25 years old or younger. And that ass ruined it all. With the help of the old man owner. Clady was a rookie. If that offense had been allowed to jell they would have been unstoppable.
