Tiki Barber works out for Dolphins

Getty Images

Tiki Barber has finally found a team interested enough to give him a look.

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports that Barber worked out yesterday with the Dolphins.

According to Glazer’s sources, Barber looked good. But not good enough for the Dolphins to sign him immediately. They first want to see how their current group of running backs look.

The 36-year-old Barber, who retired after the 2006 season, could serve as something of a role model for Dolphins running back Reggie Bush. Barber was a third-down back and punt returner early in his career (like Bush) and later became an every-down back (like the Dolphins hope Bush can do).

But for now, the Dolphins are just looking at Barber, not signing him to be Bush’s teammate.

He won’t make the team. The Dolphins want to be faster and more dynamic, a la Reggie Bush. They don’t want to be eligible for social security benefits.

    Jiminy Crickets.

  5. billinva says: Aug 3, 2011 8:13 PM

Even Dolphins fans will say “hahahahahahahahahahahahahahha, what a bunch of desperate morons”.

  6. liltifer says: Aug 3, 2011 8:13 PM

They definitely need a 3rd back. They’re trusting a rookie and Reggie Bush right now. Could work out, but could just as easily end in disaster.

    I support Tiki Barber

Barber looked good according to Glazer’s sources?

Here’s a tip, Tiki Barber was the source. I see them out all the time in Manhattan. Strahan is never far behind.

Im an Eagles fan from philly, but when this douche left the giants and they won the superbowl the same year i laughed so hard, what an idiot, he leaves his squad high and dry and they bring the title home.. i cant believe that i felt good for giants fans but yeah.. what a loser this guy is

  11. bdert says: Aug 3, 2011 8:16 PM

    I’ll bet he’s better @ 36 than Bush is @ 26…

  12. tayloner says: Aug 3, 2011 8:16 PM

Actually, and I didn’t think I’d be saying this about Tiki and ANY team, but that might just be a good fit. Especially with Ricky’s impending departure.

  13. duanethomas says: Aug 3, 2011 8:16 PM

As long as they signed him after training camp and all the little young blonde interns have returned back to school…..No Problem.

  14. themitchdraft says: Aug 3, 2011 8:18 PM

    Hahaha you can have him.

  15. 808raiderinparadise says: Aug 3, 2011 8:18 PM

Maybe the fans at practice were chanting “we want tiki!” when reggie bush repeatedly ran into the backs of his linemen.

  29. ehatem says: Aug 3, 2011 8:33 PM

Just what Reggie Bush needs, a mentor to teach him how to have an even bigger ego then he already has. Tiki will never learn. Late in his career he got a big head and regardless as to how big the humble pie is he is forced to eat he’ll always finish with a flourish, smile, and say “Can you believe I ate that big pie that fast?”. He didn’t learn it when the Giants won the Super Bowl, he didn’t learn it when he got caught with a very young mistress, and he sure as heck didn’t learn it when he got fired from NBC for being a crappy on air talent. He’s a locker room cancer just waiting to happen. Considering the amount of younger, better running backs still on the market you’d have to have the dumbest GM on the planet to get him at any price. Which means he’ll sign with the Bengals tomorrow.

Is this a joke? Maybe he can teach him how to fumble all the time, bash his teammates, then quit on them.

  33. simalex says: Aug 3, 2011 8:43 PM

@hoite, 6-10 is being optimistic. These guys are in
    “Andrew Luck” territory.

  34. jaybird70 says: Aug 3, 2011 8:46 PM

At least he would better off behind the quarterback than in front of the camera! He was horrible!

  36. kestagg says: Aug 3, 2011 8:47 PM

ronnie brown is in just as good of shape as tiki… call it what you will

  37. msadpoet says: Aug 3, 2011 8:49 PM

    Jack McKeon is not available??

  39. hobartbaker says: Aug 3, 2011 8:50 PM

After looking carefully at Tiki, the consensus among Miami scouts and executives is that “he has an abnormally large head for his body. Freakish really.”. The other consistent observation to emerge was, “Don’t trust the smile, it looks really phoney. Like the kid Carolina drafted.”.

  40. phillyfan4ever says: Aug 3, 2011 8:51 PM

Nice to see that Tiki worked out for the Dolphins. He sure didn’t work out for his wife and kids.

I am a life long Dolphins fan and have put up with a lot of TERRIBLE personnel decisions over the past decade. With that said, this is one of the worst ideas I’ve seen. It is absurdly nonsensical.

  52. dolfan8385 says: Aug 3, 2011 9:33 PM

Would be another great decision by the Dolphins. Let me get this straight… Ronnie Brown was to old and lost a step.

Tiki lost a divorce settlement but regained his love for football and his youth and speed.

  53. ductguy says: Aug 3, 2011 9:36 PM

  56. bucks12965 says: Aug 3, 2011 9:41 PM

Tiki likes to show off his vocabulary. I wonder if he’s familiar with the word karma.

  57. screwuhowardschultz says: Aug 3, 2011 9:46 PM

Thank God my team isn’t working out this loser…

  58. hobartbaker says: Aug 3, 2011 9:51 PM

After looking at Tiki, one Dolphin scout was overheard to say, “God, I hope there is no one else in the world who looks like this guy.”.

  59. rethinklogic says: Aug 3, 2011 9:58 PM

they need a 3rd running back and if they sign tiki . . . they need a 3rd running back. I think ireland is employed by the jets

  60. tommynatorii says: Aug 3, 2011 10:17 PM

Hey jets fan, your Tomlinson did such a great job last year! Thought he had something left in the tank didnt you? Wrong.
Anyway Miami will not take this guy.

  61. wtf__seriously says: Aug 3, 2011 10:23 PM

Better sign him quick before the Eagles get him, Phins!

  62. jmbresky says: Aug 3, 2011 10:28 PM

Please tell me WHY? The guy is a POS and he’s probably out of shape. There’s no way he can help the team.

  64. FinFan68 says: Aug 3, 2011 11:07 PM

WTF? Tiki would be (read: IS) horrible. They should have tried to get Ronnie back. Call Ricky and see if the THC is out of his system yet and offer him a contract.

Sounds like a guy that the Fins need!!!

  67. gcsuk says: Aug 3, 2011 11:36 PM

I didn’t think I would ever read the words “Tiki Barber” and “role model” in the same sentence.

I guess even the Eagles have limits on who they will sign.

You know, I sit here and think imagine being on the Dolphins defense for the better part of the last decade (like JT, etc) knowing that not only have you been a good unit most of those years but also the only thing that has kept the team competitive. And yet….the offense is always that tp stuck to the bottom of your shoe. Or something even more scatalogical (SP?). Last year the Fins had a really good D and a good DC running the show and it was WASTED on that O…wasted. Even as a Pats fan I feel bad for Fins fans. And still your team beats ours on the regular once/yr ’cause you guys kill TB on D. I am actually counting on the Pats losing the opener to you guys because they have a very, very hard time beating the Fins in Mia early in the year. Even though it’s a night game, I wouldn’t count on that changing.

  71. mdnittlion says: Aug 4, 2011 10:44 AM

Most people don’t know this, but Edgerrin James left the Colts the offseason before they won the Super Bowl. But the team voted and elected to give him a ring anyway, because of his service to the organization. That was the same year Tiki retired, a year later the same thing with the Giants, but no one mentioned doing that for Tiki.

  72. vinnide64 says: Aug 4, 2011 4:32 PM

WOW! I’ve been a dolfan for 40 years and this shows why business men sometime don’t make good owners. TIKKI “SENIOR” BARBER I think even a try-out was an insult, hey Ricky Williams fading career is worth having than this! For all you other dolfans who see this as another LOOOOOOOSING! season don’t feel bad, you need to be bad to make changes and The GM that Ireland guy needs to be 1st then that joke of a head coach SPINNO, SPANNO, SPEEDO, who cares! needs to go out the same door. We NEED YOUTH! a QUARTERBACK! LORDEEE! do we NEED ONE! and another downfield WIDEOUT wouldn’t hurt, who knows we may stink so bad to get in the Andrew Luck Sweepstakes next year. Let’s face it dolfans WE R OFFICIALLY ON THE CLOCK! unless some miracle happens like the patriots starters get struck by lightning or the jets are involved in a plane crash and hurts everyone with season ending injuries, AND NOT TO MENTION, we have the NFC EAST on the schedule, dang! even WASHINGTON scares me now! holla back at me if you feel the same.

  73. henne7aint7bad says: Aug 4, 2011 11:30 PM

barber is old but for all you guys that think we need a third string… WE HAVE TOOO MANY BACKS time to wise up and give some of the guys that were behind ronnie and ricky a chance for example Lex Hillard or Kory Sheets and dont forget we have Daniel Thomas a qb/rb to run the wild cat with Reggie Bush
