Derrick Mason visiting the Jets

The Jets are looking into picking up another well-known veteran wide receiver.

Former Ravens receiver Derrick Mason is scheduled to visit the Jets today, according to CBS Sports and 105.7 The Fan (via the Baltimore Sun.)

The Ravens released Mason last week but said they’d be interested in signing him at a lower price.

With the Jets, Mason would join Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress as the Mark Sanchez’s receivers.

The 37-year-old Mason is the Ravens’ all-time franchise leader in catches and yards. He and Jets coach Rex Ryan know each other well from their time together in Baltimore.

Someone who runs routes as good as Mason deserves to finally be with a good QB.

Was hoping the Colts or Patriots picked him up. Or even the Packers, for that matter.

Either way, it was only a matter of time before he found a team. He’s retiring after this season anyway… so hopefully we get to enjoy ANOTHER 1,000 yard season for him to close out his great career.

This is one of the players that you wouldn’t think about the HOF… until you look at the numbers!

If you think Sanchez is better than Flacco you need to lay off the acid bro. It’s not even 8am but that’s the dumbest comment I’ll hear all day.

He’s one of those rare good guys you root for, regardless of where he plays.

Sucks that it didn’t work out with the Ravens, but yes, he deserves a ring for what he’s done in his career.

I think Brady’d love to have him.

The Jets would be building their own dream team if this were 2005…did they resign Mark Brunell yet?

Even at 37 he’s still a factor out there. I’d love to see it as a jet fan but that pretty much would guarantee the departure of coch..who has been nothing but a stand up guy his whole career as well.

    Ever heard of Steve McNair?

Love the move as long as it doesnt mean that cotchery is going to be traded or cut.

With mason and cotchery we would have a deep and versatile wr group.

Sanchez is already better than flacco perhaps people didnt watch the playoffs last yr where he was spectacular other than in the first half of the Pitt game. Flacco was awful vs Pitt that offense was a joke

I guess the acid your taking made you think the Ravens made it to the AFC championship the last two years.

No, they are currently negoitiating with Brett Favre since he was born around the time the jets won their last SB.

Well Mason is an A-hole so I guess it would be a fit.

Mason is one of those receivers…no matter how old he may be, can make tough catches and is a nightmare for my Pats. BB cannot figure out how to stop the guy from catching passes. He’s tough and seems to play the game right. I would hate to see him on the Jets.

I’d argue that Sanchez is better than Flacco… Flacco spits the bit whenever there’s any sense of pressure around him. I don’t care how good he thinks he is…he hasn’t proved squat. Once he can beat the other good team in his division when their starter plays (good pick Cowah), then he can squawk. Sanchez has had his lunch pail handed to him by the Patriots a couple times, but he’s also come back and done enough to win a few big games against us too.

Mason made $5million last year. That was/is too big a number for a 37 year old possession receiver. I love Mace and I don’t know where the Ravens would be without him. Who can forget him (injured) with one arm catching passes against Dallas 2 years ago! Tough Guy. I hope the Ravens and he can meet 1/2 way on an amount to bring him back. But the more time passes, the more I doubt it. I think Balt will use his money on Floyd (younger, faster, taller).
