Plaxico injures ankle while working out on his own

With or without a new CBA in place, the Plaxico Burress era will have to wait a little longer.

Burress injured an ankle while working out with receiver Santonio Holmes away from the Jets facility.

“It was just a slight, quick roll, I didn’t have any tape on or anything,” Burress told reporters, via Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger.  “That was one thing, I should have gotten taped up before running routes so, it was a [freak injury] nothing serious.  I know it’s going to be one of those deals where everybody else on the outside will make it this huge thing but it’s a little swell-up.”

Burress had chronic problems with his right ankle in New York.  This injury occurred to the other ankle.

It’s not a big deal, but it’s a reminder of how quickly the optimism brought by these early August moves can quickly be dashed.

As long as he doesn’t shoot himself…

  2. denverwally says: Aug 4, 2011 2:54 PM

They had better check the ankle for bullet holes… ya know, just in case he had his piece in his pocket while he was practicing.

i honestly wish plaxico nothing but the WORST of luck. if he had ANY integrity whatsoever, he would have taken whatever the giants offered him. after screwing them over like he did, that was the least he could do. eff him. let the “thumbs down” votes commence.

The ankle is pretty close to the foot so I’m guessing this gets at LEAST 50 comments.

at least THIS leg injury won’t land him in prison! LOL

  6. weweresafe says: Aug 4, 2011 3:00 PM

@jdandcoke a fellow giants fan, but giving that comment a “thumbs down”

@ everyone else, your gun/prison jokes aren’t funny or original

Remember he is in his mid 30’s and the downside of his career. Hate to say it but there could be more of this to come.

  8. jdandcoke says: Aug 4, 2011 3:03 PM

^ unless he hurt his leg kicking pregnent women in a hospital or something.

If it had been a “foot” injury, I guess Rex & Mrs. Ryan could have had a look at it.

Thank you, I’ll be here all week.

Has been fool looking for some limelight! He should go back to prison for robbing the jets put of 3 mill this season! Bum ass

  13. rectumnearlykilledem says: Aug 4, 2011 3:06 PM

He won’t need to use his ankle to get downfield anyway. With Captain Checkdown as quarterback, Plax’s speed won’t matter.

    Welcome back Braylon!!!!!!!!

  15. eaglesfootballfan says: Aug 4, 2011 3:07 PM

Oh oh. Jets better hope he is fully healthy. He is 35

  16. madmax80 says: Aug 4, 2011 3:09 PM

I figured he would have had enough ankle grabbing while in prision.

  19. broncobeta says: Aug 4, 2011 3:11 PM

Is it just me or Santonio looks like his little brother in that picture…

  20. homelanddefense says: Aug 4, 2011 3:12 PM

this kinda thing happens with older players

  21. ballinmore says: Aug 4, 2011 3:13 PM

Anybody going to make comments on how the Jets receivers are looking to be worse than last year any time soon? Pair this with the most overrated qb in the league by far and you have the makings for a team that will be lucky to score 10 points a game. There’s a reason they wanted Nnamdi so bad, they know if they don’t pitch shutouts they may not win.

  22. garyandersonsleftfoot says: Aug 4, 2011 3:17 PM

Maybe its just me, but if Plax was crouching down in this pic id swear they were twins… lol

  23. gtmann says: Aug 4, 2011 3:18 PM

Just shows more poor judgment on his part. You don’t run routes without being taped!!!!!

  24. semperfi24 says: Aug 4, 2011 3:20 PM

As long as Cromartie doesnt impregnate him, I think he will be ready for the season

  25. cheesewhiz12 says: Aug 4, 2011 3:28 PM

So the bullet wound hasn’t fully healed?

  26. mr4thand1 says: Aug 4, 2011 3:29 PM

Didn’t he pull this same stunt when he was with the Giants? I figure it’s just a way for him to get out of practice……but he’ll show up come game time.

He should’ve signed with the STEELERS, cuz they would’ve saw RIGHT THROUGH his act!

  27. nfldaddy says: Aug 4, 2011 3:37 PM

Rex can spank it on his feet and everything will be just fine.

  28. tfbuckfutter says: Aug 4, 2011 3:38 PM

I was going to make a joke about him shooting himself, but I see that is well covered…..

So I’ll just say “Haha, Ochocinco means ‘eight five’!!”

  29. kev86 says: Aug 4, 2011 3:45 PM

Jets have been generous with the guarnteed money. Risky.

  30. fjdk4444 says: Aug 4, 2011 3:54 PM

The photo of Plax in this story indicates that prison ended up being a very humbling experience…I mean look at him…he looks like such the model citizen now!

  31. dieharddolfan6493 says: Aug 4, 2011 4:04 PM

Dammit all the gunshot jokes and rex ryan footjokes have already been used.

  32. tunescribe says: Aug 4, 2011 4:08 PM

What a dumbbell. I can’t wait to see him in the all-green pants/jersey combination. He’ll be the ultimate New Jersey Green Bean.

  33. austrianpanther says: Aug 4, 2011 4:18 PM

Someone should wipe that stupid smile off his face!!

  34. patswhatsup says: Aug 4, 2011 4:25 PM

Yeah he screwed over the giants alright…. All he did was win them the Superbowl with an insane catch to beat the greatest team ever.

  35. drgfri says: Aug 4, 2011 4:27 PM

Sounds like someone needs a patented Rex Ryan foot massage…… Yum!

  36. rhymenosaurus says: Aug 4, 2011 4:37 PM

Think of all the everyday exclamations and figures of speech that will now be awkward for teammates to use when in Burress’ presence:

“Aww SHOOT!! Oh, sorry Plax, didn’t see you there…”

“Alright guys, let’s give it a shot and… oh crap, sorry bro. I didn’t mean anything by it.”

“You hear that crowd? You HEAR them out there! They need us to go out and leave it all on the field, with guns blazi… oh hey, c’mon Plax, I didn’t mean it like that.”

“Okay guys, we’ve got this game locked up. All we gotta do is take it into the night club and shoot it in the thigh! Let’s DO thi… oh. My bad.”

  37. promin1 says: Aug 4, 2011 4:37 PM

First excuse not to practice. Here we go…..

  38. localoutlaw says: Aug 4, 2011 4:49 PM

    “it’s a little swell-up”

  39. jdandcoke says: Aug 4, 2011 5:20 PM

insane catch? no dude, that was tyree. plax caught the game winning td on a play that the pats secondary fell asleep on. you and i could have caught that pass. if you want to credit plax, the GB game is the one you’re thinking of.
