The Eagles arent like the Redskins you know why? Because the Redskins would only get players through free agency. Every year when it was time for the draft the Redskins would have 3 or 4 picks and thats it. A lot of the time not having a pick until the 3rd round. The Eagles on the other hand have had the most draft picks in the NFL over the last 5 years. Last year they had 13 this year I think 11. Also the Redskins would pay way more then market value for free agents towards the back end of their careers with out having a escape plan built into those contracts. They would also allow there to be dead money in those contracts which take up cap space. That is not have the Eagles do business they always have a way out and make sure every cent paid to player is accounted for and put to good use.

Does anyone think$4m is to much for Jenkins or $5 for a probowl DE Babin or $2.5 for DRC or $12m for Asomugha or $4m for Young or $1m for Ronnie Brown or minimum salaries for Donald Lee or Ryan Harris or Page or Hargrove? The Eagles got great deals for players who are still at their peak. You cant say that about the players the Redskins have brought in over the years. Coles, Haynesworth, Archuleta, Arrington, Mcnabb, Sanders, Hall etc. all over paid and all busts.

So the Eagirls sign every big name FA under the sun, and the Redskins have the most Cap space in the nfl. And yet Im sure people will still talk about how the Skins’ are the big over spenders and try to buy a superbowl becuase we signed D. Sanders in like 1998. Nice.

----------------------------

Eagles bashers are so lazy on this site. At least come up with an original take on the Eagles name. Everyone and their brother uses that one. It's like a joke you hear over and over. It's no longer funny or original, just lame.

The Skins have traditionally been big spenders. The reason they have some cap room this year is that they traded away their last 2 big free agent busts, McNabb ($78 mill contract) and Haynesworth ($100 mill contract) in the last 7 days for peanuts. That's just 2 but their's a multitude more. All far more relevant than 1998.

The Eagles have actually not signed very many big contracts. Most are one year deals and many of those for close to minimum NFL wage.

You guys need to brush up on your reading skills. This article is as clear as day. They gave you the teams that were over the cap on Thursday and then teams that were more than 20 under the cap. What does that leave??? The teams under the cap but less than 20 under the cap. Duh.

"So what of the other 14 teams? Here’s where they stood by way of cap space, as of Tuesday:"

Anytime you see 'cap space' being used to describe a teams payroll, it usually means how much...let's see, how to word this...cap SPACE a team still has. Hope this helps

Not sure what kind of magic potion Bruce Allen is using on Dan Snyder, but thank you! Convincing Snyder to write checks to give Haynesworth and Hall all their guaranteed money last year, suckering McNabb into signing that phony contract for money they knew he would never get, and dumping dead weight with guaranteed contracts like Portis has finally given the Redskins the ability to start rebuilding. Not going crazy but signing good foundation players, trading old (Holliday) for young (Hightower), and trading down to get 12 draft picks to greatly improve the youth and speed of one of the oldest and slowest teams in the league will start paying off sooner than later. Waiting to draft a QB next year when the talent pool (Luck, Barkley, ect....) will be much better than the foolish reaches (Newton, Locker, Gabbert, and Ponder in the first 11 picks????!!!!! Good luck with that!) teams made this year and leaving cap room to continue to build upon what they have done this year shows that the Redskins finally have a plan. Not going to be a good year this year but at least it will be nice to see the pieces of the rebuild get on the field and not sit behind overpaid and overrated free agents.

Since players on IR count against the cap, you need to have a lot of cushion to account for guys going down. Teams like the Colts and yes the Packers lost >15 players to IR last year. Most replacements brought in were low dollar, but even at league minimums for only a part of a season, that's perhaps 5 million in cap room you need to have at the beginning of a year to contend for the full year.
