Broncos G.M. discusses Tebow’s latest comments

We had Broncos G.M. Brian Xanders on PFT Live Friday, just in time to get his reaction to Tim Tebow’s surprisingly frustrated recent comments.

I could pull a quote from the interview, but then you might not watch.  Plus I’m doing the Peter King thing and working at a coffee shop and I’m afraid the kids sitting nearby will be frightened if they see Florio’s toupee on my computer.

So just watch the thing please.  And if you want more from Friday’s show, head to the PFT Live homepage or download the show on iTunes.

Welcome to the Xanders Zone! Couldn’t resist.

  5. packmanfan says: Aug 5, 2011 5:20 PM

Oh thank god that’s all it is.
I was worried it was going to be some religious/christian crap that TT was going to try and shove down our throats.

Who cares? Honestly if Kyle Orton isn’t starting the Broncos do not care about winning. The fact more ppl talk about Tebow than Orton is sickening (as Sparano may put it). I like Tebow, i think he deserves his fair shot eventually, but it’s obvious that Orton is by far better and gives the Broncs the best chance to win now (though still unlikely).

Did he mention that they might be interested in signing Brett Farve???

  8. dannymac17 says: Aug 5, 2011 5:21 PM

    I’m not either.

  9. backinblack67 says: Aug 5, 2011 5:21 PM

Nice .. I had to listen to all that crap to hear a no comment by the GM on Terdbows statement.

  10. skylark70455 says: Aug 5, 2011 5:21 PM

What!?!??! No cherry picking of comments, followed by blatant attempts to mock and ridicule?

But it was working so well yesterday…

  11. vladdrac69 says: Aug 5, 2011 5:22 PM

This Xanders guy is in over his head. How is he a G.M.?

  12. commonspence says: Aug 5, 2011 5:23 PM

Timmy wears those ‘WWJD’ bracelets and professes how much he’s guided by Christ…but, exactly how does he reconcile him being driven so much by spite of others’ opinions? Is spiteful, ‘want to prove you wrong and shove it in your face’ behavior in the Bible, but I just missed it?

  13. broncotis3000 says: Aug 5, 2011 5:23 PM

    Tebow -Orton..Orton- TEBOW…TEBOW,TEBOW, ORTON ORTON..is that better????

  14. profootballwalk says: Aug 5, 2011 5:24 PM

Jesus was crucified and he didn’t complain to the media. WWJD?

  15. jemily3014 says: Aug 5, 2011 5:24 PM

I really dont want to watch either. I would much rather just read about it.

  16. realnflmaster says: Aug 5, 2011 5:27 PM

Maybe if this had to do with the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS and how they’re making the AFC Championship for the third straight year and actually winning it we’d care.

  17. pioniere says: Aug 5, 2011 5:28 PM

That was a waste of time, with the exception of confirming that Xanders really has no clue. As a previous poster said, he’s in over his head.

    Enjoy the wilderness, Broncos fans!

  18. seattlecoug says: Aug 5, 2011 5:29 PM

Tebow is an absolute bum. Praise Jesus for making him such a crappy QB.

  19. hobartbaker says: Aug 5, 2011 5:31 PM

Must be tough to interview Xanders when he is listening to Elway’s instructions on his Bluetooth earpeice at the same time.

  20. crohrbaugh says: Aug 5, 2011 5:38 PM

    Does he feel left behind?

  21. milehighphan says: Aug 5, 2011 5:39 PM

Xanders, Elway and Fox are lying. This is not going to be a fair competition.

  22. moelester says: Aug 5, 2011 5:42 PM

What’s with all you idiots and the whole thing with Denver needs to play Orton if they want to win now??? Just how many games did Orton win last year??? Add the only head coach in the NFL who lost more games than Orton last year and what are you expecting? Denver is gonna suck no matter what. They might as well just give Tebow time to play so they can move on faster if that idiot Hodge is right

  23. forevercorr says: Aug 5, 2011 5:46 PM

Again… the focus on a PROJECT QB being a backup to have time to develop. Let’s see here…
#1. Broncos release Josh McDaniels because he’s wrecking an organization. They sign John Fox, a defensive minded coach, a rising star d-coordinator, and retain the offensive coordinator for consistency.
#2. Broncos resign Champ Bailey at a reduced contract rate from what he could have got elsewhere.
#3. Broncos draft the top linebacker, a killer young safety tandem, a new starting right tackle and several positive project players.
#4. Elvis Dumervil and Eddie Royal returns to camp healthy.
#5. Knowshon Moreno returns to camp in better NFL form.
#6. Brian Dawkins renegotiates his contract to stay on the team.
#7. Free agency brings in depth at every weak position at reasonable cost. Many of those FAs, while not highly rated, are improvements over previous starters.
#8. Kyle Orton remains on the team, allowing Tebow more time to grow into the position.
#9. Major player losses include Jabar Gaffney, Justin Bannan, Renaldo Hill, Ryan Harris, and mostly likely, Perrish Cox. Still, the impact on the remaining team is minimal, mostly due to #3 and #7.
#10. Broncos are still a good deal under the cap.

Again, I’m arguing there might be some tunnel vision concerning Denver’s off-season moves. Honestly, to most Denver Broncos fan, Tim Tebow is just a player who has to find a way to help the team. That’s all.

  24. tdrizzle74 says: Aug 5, 2011 6:02 PM

I am so tired of people taking Tebow’s Christian faith and using as a club against him.

In case you don’t recognize this fact commonspence…Every Sunday, the Lord’s day, Pro-football players line up across from each other and with the goal of proving the guy on the other side of the ball is wrong in thinking that he can, hit harder, run faster and put more points on the board than him. It’s called a competitive spirit…maybe you need to realize having one and believing in God aren’t mutually exclusive occurences.

A few things people are overlooking.

    1. Orton is a free agent after this year.
    2. Denver is in a rebuilding stage.

If they are going to make Orton the starter they better sign him to an extension or he is gone after the year and get nothing for him. Putting Tebow’s experience/development behind one year.

Lets face it, Denver is not going to make the playoffs due to the defense still needing a lot of work, perfect time to play Tebow and get him some play time. This is where you want to know, if this kid is a baller or not. The sooner you know the better. If he isnt the answer then you move on and test your LUCK in the draft.

My belief is they are trying to convince Orton he is going to be the starter and part of Denvers long term plan to try and sign him to an extension. And then can freely trade him since he can no longer void trades due to his current one year contract and refusing to sign a new, longer, contract.

    YAWN!!

  27. rushbacker says: Aug 5, 2011 6:12 PM

The media rides Tebow harder than Seabiscuit. I just hope the kid gets a legit chance to line up and try to prove his detractors wrong.

  28. tatum064 says: Aug 5, 2011 6:22 PM

    Finally, they’re off our case.

    Sincerely,

    RaiderNation!

So will Denver be mysteriously flooded by high waters or plagued by locusts by the end of September if Tebow doesn’t start the first game this season?

These are the sorts of comments I just don’t get. Fox’s job is on the line if he doesn’t right that ship. He’s going to play whoever he thinks is the best, whether they’re a Christian, worship trees, or pray to the nearest tub of Gatorade.

Elway and company would like nothing more than to see Tebow become a star this year because it would drastically speed up their rebuilding and free up a high draft pick next year that they’d otherwise need to use on their next QB of the future. If Tebow doesn’t make it onto the field it will be because he couldn’t hack it, not because of some grand conspiracy against him.

  31. 1liondriven says: Aug 5, 2011 6:27 PM

Good Lord this team is in trouble.

I used to think Denver had a pretty smart owner but after watching this front office staff he must be a real loon for hiring these guys.

  32. bucfandango says: Aug 5, 2011 6:28 PM

Is it just me or does Xanders sound like a complete idiot? The interview would have been much better if they had Pantera playing in the background.

  33. fissels says: Aug 5, 2011 6:44 PM

I think right now Orton is the better QB but the team wants Tebow because the guy’s a winner. Tebow just needs to be patient and work on his game and he will be fine.

Me either. Don’t watch any of them. When I want to watch something I turn on the television. But I’m old.

  35. vikesfansteve says: Aug 5, 2011 7:30 PM

Did Denver get him a diaper & rattle?

  36. billsfan1 says: Aug 5, 2011 9:01 PM

BTW am I the only one who thinks elway is also out of his league and over his head? Not just xanders

  37. mogogo1 says: Aug 5, 2011 9:50 PM

Anyone who hasn’t watched the video really needs to do so. Xanders sounds like he’s channeling Lenny Dykstra–slightly slurred speech with oddball pauses in all the wrong places. He sounds like the interview was at 3 a.m. following a major bender.

  38. stonedwhitetrash says: Aug 5, 2011 10:10 PM

The Broncos will suck so bad this year they need the Bible Thumpers to fill the empty seats Gods only begotten grandson will bring them out

  39. suckleague says: Aug 5, 2011 10:33 PM

Could there be less love for Orton by this GM? It’s going to be a wonderfully terrible year in Denver….

I hope it’s high waters since that will most likely drown your dumb ass

  41. ratbastardshanahandjob says: Aug 5, 2011 11:24 PM

Once again I just want to say how truly blessed I am to read another story about Timmy Rah-Rah…..

Timmy wears those ‘WWJD’ (what would Jesus do) bracelets. I know exactly what Jesus would do. Bench Timmy Rah-Rah’s pathetic-ass if he was coaching Denver……

  42. opie333 says: Aug 10, 2011 2:46 PM

If Tebow doesn’t hit the field sometime this season and they have a losing record! John Fox’s days are numbered! He’ll be trying to figure out WWJD!
