Eagles cut Ricky Sapp

Sapp_Ricky

When the Philadelphia Eagles took Clemson defensive end Ricky Sapp in the fifth round last year, some observers called it the biggest steal of the 2010 NFL draft. Now Sapp is done with the Eagles, without ever having played a down for the team.

Sapp was released by the Eagles today, one day after being placed on the reserve/left squad list.

Last year Sapp also reportedly left the team, and although he did return, he suffered a season-ending knee injury in August and spent the entire year on injured reserve. Now he has left the team again, and the Eagles aren’t willing to pay him another year’s salary.

It’s not clear what’s going on with Sapp. Asked by a fan on Twitter if he was alright, Sapp wrote this afternoon, “I’m fine thanks for asking.”

Sapp told another fan, “I would never ever give up.” But he has given up on the Eagles two years in a row. And now he’s gone.

Eagles have a knack for guys with super talent, super-promise and potential, only to have these guys fizzle once they show up…

    What a Sapp.

would have been cool to see his potential, as a fellow stoner i know that you can have huge potential stunted by the medical herbs. Hopefully he’ll play in another league and get some decent tape and prove himself only then will someone in the nfl sign him.

Another stellar job by the Feebles brain trust. Just like all that FA $$$ they are spending just to fall on their faces again another year. As long as Reid is coaching this team & you have an animal torturing, zero regard for unsuspecting women, all hype POS as your QB, things will be status quo with this team: Underachivers with ZERO SB’s & the last championship 51 YEARS AGO!!

i rest my case…..hell vickspreadsherpes is so obsessed he has a name after an Eagle player……It’s OK sweetheart, all those girls at the HS prom didn’t see your potential

Don’t worry everyone.. With a name like “Vickspreadsherpes”, you can be assured this guy has ZERO bias at all. Lol. Here’s a newsflash: whatever team you like ALSO more than likely has a few POS’s as well, you either just don’t know them personally to know it or you’re ignoring it to try to prove a point. But hey, unadulterated hate works too.

I would love to hear why he left….not that there’s a good reason for leaving. Not one that wouldn’t have been excused anyway.

  15. eaglesfan290 says: Aug 5, 2011 4:34 PM

He was actually looking really good at camp this year. The problem is he can’t take hard coaching and both last year and this year he just left camp.

He would leave for a couple days then come back and the FO finally had enough. The kid isn’t mature, he doesn’t get it’s a business and a job, and he doesn’t understand it’s a tough love coaching style in Philly!

They actually loved him as a person, but he needs to mature.

Keep hating haters, at the end of the season when the eagles are looking at a bye week in the playoffs and the giants and cowboys are home watching, you’ll see all the haters disappear lol I love it bc it hurts your team didn’t put themselves in position to win and you’re desperately hoping Vick gets hurt… Your only chance, if any. And yes, please remind me about your superbowl from years ago… Hows that superbowl treating you now that your looking ahead at a losing season? 1 playoff win in 19 years, 0-7 vs eagles since yours….pathetic giants and Dallas fans living in the past, reminiscing about the good old days. Move over old timer before you get runover. See ya in lehigh this Sunday!

If defense was the only part of the team to ever take the field, the Cowgirls would go 0-16 every year.

What use is running the ball when you’re down 21-28 points?

Explosive offense + ‘bend-don’t-break’ ballhawking defense = Eagles gameplan.

Uhhhh, you have to HAVE an empire to see it fall. The Eagles haven’t had anything close. This is too bad for Sapp. The Eagles could care less – the dozens of player they signed should be able to easily rise above the loss, I mean being a “dream team” and all.

    buckbrennan,

The Cowboys and their fans will always have a legacy to fall back on. If you are an Eagles fan, you have no idea what that is all about, so ALL you have is the future. If your “dream team” is so good, bring it, don’t sing it. Dan Snyder tried signing high profile players in order to rise out of the doldrums and win it all. We all know how that turned out. Have your team beat the odds and prove otherwise. Dream team, or team dreaming? I will brew the coffee for you.

  31. scudbot says: Aug 5, 2011 6:25 PM

Congrats on all the FA signings. On the other hand, it’s a testimony to the Eagles’ catastrophically bad execution of draft/develop. Nineteen out of the 22 starters in Super Bowl XLV for the Packers were drafted by Green Bay.

That’s true, but keeping that in mind…

The Cowboys have more playoff appearances than the Eagles. 30 to 23.

The Cowboys have more playoff wins than the Eagles. 33 to 19.

The Cowboys have more division championships than the Eagles. 21 to 11.

The Cowboys have more conference championships than the Eagles. 8 to 3.

Unfortunately, the Cowboys have 69 fewer wins than the Eagles. That’s tempered by the fact that they also have 217 fewer losses than the Eagles.

Last but not least, the Cowboys have more league championships than the Eagles. 5 to 3.

But hey, at least you beat the Romo-less and Bryant-less Cowboys by three points last year. In Philly.

  35. zeussuperman says: Aug 5, 2011 7:01 PM

Yeah geez, being the only team to ever beat Vince Lombardi in the playoffs?

Having the last of the “60 minute men” in Chuck Bednarik?

    That’s not legacy-caliber history.

Oh, right. Legacies only started when Roger Staubach was drafted. I forgot!

    @ zuessuperman

Uh dude, while you’re congratulating yourself on that whole Eagle defense thing, realize that Dallas finished ahead of Philly in total defense 6 of the last 10 years.
Between injuries, weaknesses, and guys that just flat out quit, Philly has substantial questions in their defensive front seven.
Once again, it doesn’t matter who’s in your secondary if the opponent doesn’t have to throw. BTW, are ya’ll still starting Winston “The Turnstile” Justice?

  40. fballfanatic says: Aug 5, 2011 8:25 PM

Does anyone know when the ESPN Special “The Eagles Have Landed” will run?

My understanding is the same producer that did Lebron’s classy farewell in Cleveland has been chosen! Destiny is delicious, and wearing a “bullseye” on your backs for 16 regular season games will be more enjoyable than words can describe.

It worked so well for Lebron, despite DWade’s incredible talents.

Not even close and not even a good attempt. First, Deion was afraid of contact and second, he did not play every snap. Now tuck your tail between your legs and go back to your “Magic the Gathering” tournament.

yo melonhead, can we define 60 minutes for your melon 60 mins reflects that concreate Charlie played the entire game 60 mins, all year! center and MLB. would stay in the middle of the field while the O or D would switch out. I”m pretty sure he did the whole season. Deion a great player no doubt , but not even close to the last 60 min player. WILL NEVER BE DONE AGAIN!

Pretty obvious how long some of you guys have been watching.

P.S. You don’t rack up 500 tackles, force 10 fumbles, rack up 367 KO/punt returns and be “afraid of contact”. Let me know when Asante Samuel approaches Deion’s numbers in any of those categories (he’s currently at 300 tackles, 5 forced fumbles and 100 KO/punt returns after 8 seasons).

He wasnt gonna make the team anyway. He was way undersized even for the Eagles. All last year during training camp he was on the ground. They would do d-line vs o-line 1 on 1 drills where the d lineman has to get pass the o lineman and get to a towel where the qb should be. He would engage take 2 steps and be ran into the ground EVERY time.

He didnt have the weight, levarage, strength, and most importantly balance to hold up himself and a 300 pound man going full bore .

He was a nice guy and a great college athlete just not an NFL caliber player.

Please stop the hating…. Rick is my cousin and we grew up in the same town, We played high school football together also… Just so you know he is one of the Greatest PURE athletes to ever play the game… The guy ran a 4.3 40 in high school at 220 lbs and could jump out of the gym all of this without weights, conditioning drills, chutes, etc. Saying he is not an NFL talent is absurd and you are all retarded and probably just a bunch of fat fantasy league, potato chip eating, beer guzzling F@&s that have no life and no women and have nothing better to do than live your life through these athletes…. Being on t.v. dosen’t make you less human… Show the man some respect He has other obligations besides football, like kids a mother and a father and also a love interest. by the way HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!!!!!!
