Prince Amukamara out indefinitely with broken foot

Prince Amukamara AP

Only a couple of days after signing his rookie contract, Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara is out indefinitely with a broken foot, according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post.

Specifically, Amukamara fractured the fifth metatarsal in his left foot.

He’ll undergo surgery to repair the injury.

The nineteenth overall selection in the 2011 draft, Amukamara was the last unsigned first-round pick.

Ok, so Steve Smith is still unsigned and rehabing, Kevin Boss is with the Raiders, Ben Patrick retired after 3 days at Big Blue training camp, Amukamara is out, virtually the entire O-Line is gone, Barry Cofield jumped ship, Lawrence Tynes had multiple surguries this offseason and no new kicker, Osi is pissed at everyone.

Looks like you guys are doing a great job this year can’t wait to play you!!!!!!!!

And just about time to cue all the idiot haters that jumped onto the Lions blogs after Fairley broke his foot and decided to call him a bust. He’ll be just fine, just like Fairley will be. Shortened offseason, that’s what can happen. Now he can learn the playbook. All rookies are about 2 months behind on studying. Talents like him and Fairley have enough going for them that the studying of the playbook is just as important anyways.

    simplesimon,

This has nothing to do with a shortened training camp – this is just pure chance/bad luck, whatever you want to call it. This is not an “out of shape” injury. I do agree that he can work on learning the playbook, but nothing is a substitute for playing time. Royalty or not, nothing guarantees you are immune from injury.

I just want to say borken bones have nothing to do with the lockout. If he pulled a hamy or a muscle or something like that then maybe .

This injury is just bad luck. The good thing is even with surgery he sould be back by weak 2 at the latest. The problem for him is the Giants play two teams with probably top5 WR cores inthe NFL. Both the Eagles and Boys have Fast (very fast int he Eagles case) young talented WR’s. The boys being a bigger set and the Eagles being faster with better route running. Good luck coming back kid. It may be till weak 8 or 9 till you get on the field. The giants are going to be really not good this year. Mostly because of the Oline. I still don’t know what th heck they were thinking. Unless they had back ups last yeat that the know something about them that no one else does the releases they made will hurt them to much to overcome.

but anyways.. I broke my fifth metatarsal in my left foot as well while playing football. I can tell you it takes a long while before you’re able to cut and plant without it feeling some pain or discomfort. He’s gonna be out for a while. Feel bad for the guy tho despite being an Eagles fan.

  52. zeussuperman says: Aug 6, 2011 11:41 PM

Sorry to hear this, Giants fans.

Even as a rival Eagles fan, watching a player you’re really excited about go down early in the preseason is probably the worst feeling.

It happened to Stewart Bradley two years ago, cost him his season, and ultimately his once-promising career with the Eagles.

Luckily, Prince is young and a broken foot isn’t a torn tendon.

  53. meredithnyg says: Aug 6, 2011 11:54 PM

That is terrible news. Don’t like to see anyone hurt but this one is obviously close to home.

Beatty had the same injury last season and he was back in 7 weeks. Hope he’s studying his butt off in the meantime.

Contrary to what the haters are saying, it’s not exactly like this news ends our season. He was behind anyway cause of the signing b.s. so it’s not like he was going to begin the season with a starting position anyway. Our Oline is almost exactly the same. We picked up a new center. Moved our left tackle to guard (which he’s played) and plugged in Beatty to left tackle (which is a position he’s already played and where we’ve been grooming him to play consistently) Seubert and O’Hara are great guys and it sucks to lose that in the locker room. But they were getting old and injury prone and I think we’ll be just fine without them. (Remember last year with the numerous Oline injuries we had and how people were stepping up like crazy. We STILL managed to tie the Colts with the least amount of sacks allowed (16) and were averaging 4+ yards a play on the ground)

The Osi stuff is an obnoxious distraction, but like nygdefenserules has pointed out, we’ve dealt with this behavior before. In the meantime, Tuck, Kiwi, JPP, Tollefson, etc will pick up the slack.

Don’t know what’s up with all the haters tonight, but based on their respective fan bases, I’m not exactly surprised.

You might be right about bad luck. You’re right that it does happen also. However, it still is more likely when a young player comes from college and doesn’t have to get going right away as they usually do. I also know it’s no substitute for playing. I was just saying that for young guys like Fairley and Prince, they have a good chance to be very good just on talent level alone. What they really need is to catch up on the playbook too. This will give him the chance.

I like how everybody comes in here and came in about Fairley and label them a bust right away and act like their season is over. Prince will be back early in the year and Fairley is going to miss 4 weeks maximum.

Funny, high draft pick or not, neither had enough time to learn the playbooks or system enough to be the actual starter out of the gates anyways. They’d have been rotated in and still will be. Both Fairley and Prince will be good when they get back and get to play. No worries Giants fans!!!

Way to jump to conclusions. I saw pretty much as many Eagles fans saying it sucks as I did that were happy it happened. As for myself, I’m an Eagles fan and I’ve never wished that anyone would be injured, nor have I ever celebrated an injury. I want my Eagles to beat other teams straight up. If you had paid attention, some of those negative comments came from Steelers fans and at least one seems to be a vikings fan. So, thanks for calling all of us trash when many of us feel bad for the kid. Just curious, what does it say about someone when they insult an entire fanbase because of a few idiots?

this is why you get your contract signed and REPORT to camp. the kid knew he was behind and was probably doing more than he should have done….oh well.

  71. pympdaddi says: Aug 7, 2011 4:47 AM

All the people with the negative comments… go pluck yourselves! First thing to remember, regardless of what team you follow, is that this is a player injury. There’s pain and suffering involved even before you think about the impact. Training cam and pre-season aren’t over just yet, so if you think it was a “good decision” to NOT draft Prince, you may be second thinking that if one of your first rounders gets hurt, eh?! Have some class and show a little respect for players in the NFL. NO team is guaranteed anything, regardless of their perceived strength (example, and 18-0 team can actually lose ONE game and mean EVERYTHING even if they are the more talented, stacked, dominating team) Do the math!

  72. nygiants88 says: Aug 7, 2011 5:25 AM

ok to say the Giants won’t win a game or there season is done is foolish I mean look at our schedule we play the NFC west that’s 4 wins right there the the Redskins twice right there 6 wins the the bills and dolphins so at worst the Giants would finish 8-8 but I’m confident that with the returning core players and that fact it is one rookie who will be back soon enough the giants could easily finish 10-6 or better

  73. proBirdie says: Aug 7, 2011 6:39 AM

Depending on where the brake is in the 5th Metatarsal, he could be running in 6-8 weeks. If it’s a Jones fracture of the fifth, more like 4 months.

Similar injury that WR Chaz Schillens Raiders suffered in August 2009. He’s back running full speed and looking confident again but it took him TWO full seasons to recover. The reason is he tried to come back too soon. Foot injuries can be tricky.

    http://www.fftoolbox.com/football/nfl_news.cfm?news_id=528

Giants should consider putting him on IR. Better to write off one season instead of first two.

  85. laeaglefan says: Aug 7, 2011 10:14 AM

“this is why you get your contract signed and REPORT to camp”

Its the agents that hold up the contract signings, not the rookie players. Let’s face it, these are 21, 22 year old kids. They have no experience negotiating contracts. Hell, they’ve probably never even negotiated for a new car. They hire their agents because that’s what these guys do for a living (negotiate contracts). The players don’t have the balls to tell the agent to just get it done so they can report to camp. Once the rookie contract is done though, its more on the players than the agents when they’re holdouts from training camp. Its the players who demand the new contracts. The agents just willfully go along for the ride.

Looks like you guys are doing a great job this year can’t wait to play you!!!!!!!! (eaglefan290)

“ROFLMAO!!!! This guy holds out then breaks his foot…glad we didn’t take him.” (phillyhawk)

    “Sweet (birdbrains)

“Princess prolly broke her foot walking around in the new high heels she bought with her rookie signing bonus.” (philahitman)

I NEVER said that every Eagle fan is “trash”. I have a lot of respect for many of the fans who can come on here objectively and discuss football (like zeusssuperman). But I’m really getting sick of the other trolls like mad5555 who come on here and celebrate an opposing players injury.

And yes, every team has a-hole fans. Even the Giants.

Sucks for the Giants and Giants fans who were claiming he would end up being a shut down corner similiar to Asomugha. Hope the guy gets healthy no one likes to see injuries to young early draft picks. I dont want the Eagles to prove Amukamara isnt in the same league as Asomugha bc of injury I want them to be able to prove it on the field.

never. Osi doesnt deserve to play for the Eagles.
    ———————————————————–
no, osi just deserves to run circles around that bum winston justice and crush mcscabb 5 times in a game

    ———————————

    Nice selective memory!

Maybe Osi deserves to miss a tackle on LeSean McCoy, giving up a 60+ yard touchdown run to win the game – like he did on the first Eagles-Giants game in 2010?

Maybe Osi should let Michael Vick scramble away from him to destroy the Giants playoff hopes in a whopping 4 minutes. Like the game that you’ll never forget as a Giants fan, because it was the most epic and thorough butt-whooping that has ever been laid on one team.

“Imagine that, another injury prone cornholer. pampered too much in stinkcon?”

Ya, I think terrible players highly sought after and about to have great careers are probably just “pampered” too much only because you seem to have a hate on for Nebraska. Tell you what. Say what you just said to Ndomukong Suh’s face, a Nebraska alum from a year ago, instead of from the basement of your parents house while waiting for the water to boil for your Kraft Dinner. Then we’ll see how pampered these athletes are. In fact, I’ll pay to see it. Please say yes…..idiot!!!
