If anyone has gotten ' jerked around' , it is Whitehurst in Seattle. He was brought into Seattle in Hasselbeck's contract year, so naturally Hasselbeck regarded him as unwanted competition for the starter's snaps. He ignored Charlie all year, and pouted on the sidelines whenever Charlie was inserted into games ( which wasn't often). All season, Seattle fans thought Charlie must really suck because he was given so few chances, but Carroll was forced to keep Hasselbeck happy and use Matt as often as Hasselbeck wanted to play. Charlie did a good job in the NFC championship game against the Rams ( during which HAsselbeck was seen pouting on the sidelines) , but Charlie was benched once again for the playoff games against the Saints and Bears. Now that Hassellbeck has left for the Titans, Carroll had brought in TJack as the annointed starter. Maybe Schneider should get a better understanding of who is getting ( explitive) upon.

i love the victim role. the guy can't play. vike's trounce the giants in the meadowlands before their superbowl.

tjack is so motivated that he immediately goes to work the day after the bowl, and we hear these amazing stories about his leadership, and how the light's finally come on. first game of the nfl season, and he gets to prove himself at lambeau like any real gamer would love to do. gets the ball with just under two to go and a timeout in the 4th and a chance to win the game. one of the most awful interceptions i've ever seen. youtube search for adrian peterson runs over al harris if you don't remember the game.

he ends up losing the starting job to gus before getting another opportunity to prove himself. starts the wildcard game when it should've been gus, and asante samuel is thankful for that one. the funny thing is, they opened up the offense and allowed a few audibles when gus was behind center. they had been simplifying things for tjack all along, and the fan base was tired of the annoyingly conservative, unimaginative offense.

then he gets awfully mistreated when brett comes in and almost takes it all the way. the nfc championship was the best battle of the playoffs that year..

last preseason, the coaches obviously weren't to optimistic. yet again, he's a victim. you'd figure he'd like to spark a trade opportunity by looking somewhat competent in the preseason. instead, he had an awful preseason. awful. by that time, the fan base, and just about everyone at kfan had stuck a fork in the wishful thinking category in regards to him.

i will say that he definitely seemed to be a good character guy, good team guy, and a good father. too bad he looks like a deer in the headlights once the ball gets snapped.

Whether T-Jack turns into a decent QB is yet to be seen. But I think you can safely say that the signing of Favre totally screwed with his development as a QB. In 2008, he actually showed signs of becoming a good QB. He started the last four games of the regular season and the Vikes won three of them. This also took place while the the team was in the teeth of a battle with the Chicago Bears for the division title. His QB rating in those last four regular season games was: 143.8, 135.5, 98.5 and 88.5. That's not the biggest sampling, but it sure is encouraging.

I think the biggest problem Jackson had with Childress was the dishonesty. That guy lied through his teeth all the time. You know damn well that Favre communicated early on that he would play with the Vikings, but he would not come in until training camp was over. That was typical Favre......all about him and nothing about the team. Chilly could have communicated that to Jackson, but he always tried to be coy and cute instead. No wonder all of his players hated him.

Will T-Jack turn into an All-Pro? Highly unlikely. Could he develop into a decent starting QB......sure......he could. We will see.

Oh......I almost forgot.............Paul Hargis is an idiot.

T-Jack got a raw deal by being thrust into the starting position in 2007 way before he was ready. Nevertheless, he got plenty of opportunities and shouldn’t complain. If he were good, he’d still be there.

I wonder what would have happened to T-Jack if Shiancoe wouldn’t have dropped an easy TD pass against Indy in Game 2 of 2008. Vikes dominated that game but couldn’t get the ball in the endzone. Colts came alive at the end of the game when the defense collapsed, scored two quick TDs, and won the game. If Shiancoe catches that pass, Vikings win, are 1-1 instead of 0-2, T-Jack keeps his job, and he’s the toast of the town.
------

Which is it? Is Tarvaris terrible? Or did he get screwed.

And, I find it odd that you and Carl G. are always posting within seconds of each other. What’s up with that?

trollhammer20 has the most clear-headed post yet on this , he's exactly right . This isn't a move made for the long term . T-Jack is a fill-in for now in a severely shortened preseason . He's here because he knows Bevel's offense and there's a week and a half of practice before the first preseason game .

Hawk fans know neither CW or T-Jack are long-term answers at the position and it's a QB rich draft next year . This years 'crop' of QB's quite frankly weren't all that impressive , including those at the top .

Cam Chancellor ?! Wow , the guy wouldn't have even been taken in the first round in a decent year . Locker at #8 ? I love the guy as a Husky , but Jake is going to be a project that will take a couple of years to develop ; you want a #8 overall pick to contribute immediately .

Landry , Barkley and obviously Luck are better than any QB that was in the draft this year . The Hawks are going about it the right way , building from the inside out . Get the pieces around the QB in place and then wait until the right guy comes along ( not Kolb ) .

I don't get the comments about how Jackson cracks under pressure. Number one, he played his best game in AZ with major playoff implications.

What, the home playoff game? He couldn't have been under too much pressure, half the stadium was empty.

The Seahawks made another critcal mistake. Not aquiring a QB for the now and the Future. Tavaris Jackson is not going to cut it, especially in the NFC.
_________________________________

And what move were they supposed to make, exactly?

Their choices were as follows:

1) Re-sign Matt Hasselbeck. Guess what? They offered him two years for $7 million a year before the lockout. After the lockout, he got a better offer from Tennessee.

Matt Hasselbeck turns 36 in September, and has missed games due to injury in each of the last four seasons. Would the team be better this year with him at QB? The answer is very, very likely "Yes." Is this the player you want to commit $21 million to as part of a long-term rebuilding process? The answer is just as likely to be "No."

2) Use a draft pick to select a prospect at QB. Since Seattle selected #25 this year, and several teams chose QBs in front of them, the talent pool was pretty depleted. Obviously, there wasn't a QB they thought worthy of the pick. Yes, they might have had Dalton or Kopaernick, but did either one fit the system? Was either one not worth shoring up the offensive line, which has been horrible the last three seasons? Is it best just to draft a QB simply for the sake of drafting one, regardless of whether he fits your system or represents value at the pick?

3) Mortgage talent, give up cap space, and trade for a "hot prospect". This meant if they wanted Kolb, they'd have had to trade a young talented player and give up a high draft pick, or perhaps have given up two high draft picks, and open up the pocketbook to the tune of $60 million over five years. Same with Orton...and given Seattle played Denver last year, they had plenty of time to evaluate Orton as a prospect.

4) Sign whatever free-agent they could find, and give him a chance to earn a long-term roster spot.

For those who aren't paying attention (most people outside Seattle, it seems), Jackson signed a two-year contract. Is that the kind of contract you give to a guy you honestly think is a long-term solution at QB? Now, maybe if they had signed him for five years and $40 million, the endless pissing and moaning from East Coast media types would actually be warranted.

If Jackson and Whitehurst both fail, Seattle will finish the season with a lousy record, going into one of the most QB-rich drafts in history. In the event they do select a QB, or trade for a prospect, that QB will be much, much better off because they chose to solidify the OL before they brought the young QB in.

At best, Jackson shows vast improvement and earns his way into a long-term deal as a starter. At worst, he flops, Whitehurst flops, and the team will (hopefully) have a much stronger offensive line to protect any new prospect acquired in 2012.

It's called "patience", people. It's a fascinating concept. Some of you clearly need to learn a thing or two about it.

I wonder what would have happened to T-Jack if Shiancoe wouldn't have dropped an easy TD pass against Indy in Game 2 of 2008. Vikes dominated that game but couldn't get the ball in the endzone. Colts came alive at the end of the game when the defense collapsed, scored two quick TDs, and won the game. If Shiancoe catches that pass, Vikings win, are 1-1 instead of 0-2, T-Jack keeps his job, and he's the toast of the town. He probably would have screwed it up the next week, but who knows?

Coming from MN I have watched every game he has played as a Viking and I can tell you he surely isn't a legit starting quarterback. He may have gotten a raw deal with everything going on in MN but don't act like he never had a chance to prove what he's got. Every single year there were reports as how great he looked in preseason and how he will break out this season, etc...but that never happened. I really like the guy, I met him once and he is a cool dude, so I have nothing against him, but he just doesn't have it when it comes to running an offense. He is very poor at reading a defense and he can't complete a pass deeper than 15 yards. I wish him well but it sounds like Carroll is trying very hard to justify starting him this season when everyone thinks he's pretty crazy for doing so. No one will know until the season gets going but I know he won't magically become a solid starter and he no longer in the developing stage of his career, so what you see is what you get...

When you lose your job to a backup quarterback (Guss Ferrotte) then somehow get another shot only to lose the job again to another backup (Sage Rosenfiels), get the job back again, lose it again to a qb who hadnt taken one snap or even agreed to play for the team yet (Brett Favre), wait two years and get booted for a third string qb/wr (Joe Webb) yea I wouldnt call that being jerked around, but rather Tavaris not taking a hint... he couldnt even hand the ball off correctly (see Adrian Peterson thigh bruise- out 2 games) So now you have a qb who cant lead a team, read defenses, throw under pressure, or even hand the ball off, combined with an O.C. who cant run plays to utilize the talent on the team, and a wideout who will after 4 games decide to mail it in for the rest of the season with an "injury" probably to the hip. Good luck Seattle, hopefully Tavaris has learned the best way to throw is with both feet on the ground...

Tjack has two bad qualities for a qb. One, he will miss wide open uncovered receivers. Like a RB in the Flat. He will throw it over his head and into the sidelines. Second, if there is end of game pressure or big moment pressure, he just falls apart.

He will have moments of good play, brief moments, just enough that you will be tempted to let him start.

It will be interesting to watch KAO v 2.0 in Seattle. Childress was so bad, but he was the guy who pocked bevell and tjack.

Maybe Pete Carroll did not watch any tape.

Jackson is NOT the QB of the future. Hawks are rebuilding their O-Line with two rookies, a second year player, and one vet. That was the focus the last two years. Next year they will grab their QB(hopefully) of the future.
Carroll said Jackson was starting the first preseason game until CW was up to speed and then they would compete for the job(of course, everyone conveniently ignores that)

TJack had some chances...but they weren't great chances.

Thrown in at end of 2006. Rookie, on a losing team, with pathetic receivers for the most part. What a chance.

2007-basically his real "rookie" year. Only dependable receiver is Bobby Wade, but Adrian Peterson carries team on back. TJack gets a couple injuries, still does better in the system than either of the veterans on the roster.

2008-benched after two games in which the team and the coaching could all have done better. While Frerotte had some decent games, he was also a pick machine and TJack was obviously the better QB when he finished the season. The Playoff game was a joke, both WRs slowed with hammy issues and AP largely absent in the second half.

Favre was after that, until TJack got a start against the Giants...in Detroit...with a team that was already packing it in.

The guy has been through the most bizarre early career I've ever seen in the NFL. Curious to see what happens if the situation is consistent for a change.

jimmysee — I don’t understand your rant. Favre sucked in 2010, but in 2009 they got much further with Favre than they ever would have with Jackson (incidentally, much further than Green Bay got, plus he beat them twice). In 2010 Favre was the wrong decision for the Vikings – in 2009 he was the right decision). If 2009 proved anything at all, it was that the Packers were wrong about Favre’s remaining ability. Besides, his GB relaease wasn’t as much about Favre as it was about Rodgers.

--------------------------------------------------------

If your goal in 2009 was to win the Super Bowl, you were doomed to failure with Brett and every Packers fan knew it right from the get-go.

Brett certainly tok the Vikings farther than they would have gone with Jackson or Rosenfels or whomever, but Packers fans know Brett, and he no longer had the level of talent that gave him the ability to be reckless with the ball.

That was apparent when he threw the pick in the NFC title game with the Jints at Lambeau. We had seen it many times before that.

By the time Vikings got Brett, he was even a year further removed from that.

There was no doubt that he had some similar meltdown waiting to happen.

That's why I said you got the full package.

If the Vikings' goal was to get to the NFC Championship Game and lose, they got what they wanted.

If it was to get to the Super Bowl, they had the wrong horse pulling the cart.

In the end, that's why the Packers let him go.

Ted Thompson decided the team had a better chance to get there with Aaron Rodgers than it had with Brett.

Taken out of context but appropriate, nevertheless taking about Brett:

But in ourselves."
