Channing Crowder says he’s retiring

Crowder_Channing

Channing Crowder, the linebacker who was released by the Dolphins shortly after the lockout ended, says he’s going to retire.

Crowder told Sid Rosenberg on WQAM, “I’m retiring. I’m hanging it up.”

Although Crowder is known as one of the NFL’s biggest jokers, PFT has confirmed that Crowder’s comments were serious. Crowder’s plan is to give up playing in the NFL so he can pursue a career in the media.

It wouldn’t be at all surprising if the 27-year-old Crowder changes his mind and returns to the NFL, especially if he realizes soon that he can make a lot more money playing in the NFL than talking about the NFL.

But for now, Crowder says he’s done.

Crowder is a joke. Runs his mouth constantly and now he cries because he’s not a hot commodity, so he’s going to retire. He’ll realize in a year that it was a bad move and he’ll be more upset when he doesn’t get a call next summer either.

The day I heard him blame Kiper when he spent money he didn’t have before he was drafted I knew he was a complete idiot.

  10. mrclearview says: Aug 9, 2011 6:09 PM

Translation….Nobody wanted to pay big dollars for an average, slow linebacker.

  11. lifetimeskinsfan739 says: Aug 9, 2011 6:12 PM

I hope he comes back just so I dont have to hear him talk anymore then I do now.

  12. nav711 says: Aug 9, 2011 6:12 PM

Don’t let the door hit your ass on your way out. You’re like the team you played for…pathetic!!!

  13. drshankenstein says: Aug 9, 2011 6:14 PM

Good ! I hope he means it.

  14. dangeralert says: Aug 9, 2011 6:16 PM

Now he can talk as much trash about Rex Ryan as he wants and not have to worry about backing it up on the field.

  15. steelerkiller52 says: Aug 9, 2011 6:16 PM

Rex Ryan wants to know who this article is about.

  16. cooper59101 says: Aug 9, 2011 6:16 PM

When has Channing Crowder ever been relevant?

    Thank You.

  23. jimboonie says: Aug 9, 2011 6:21 PM

  24. nyjalleffingday says: Aug 9, 2011 6:21 PM

Rex Ryan: 1 Channing Crowder: 0

  25. tjacks7 says: Aug 9, 2011 6:21 PM

Didn’t Kyle Boller throw 50+ yard passes from his knees? Worked out great for him in the end.

  26. luckynumberlucas says: Aug 9, 2011 6:23 PM

In related news, Matt Light just is sending out word he is gonna throw a giant party…

Crowder is an ugly clown, with no eloquence, grammatical skills, intellect or screen presence , all things you need for a successful media career.

Dude’s gonna be flippin’ burgers in 5 years.

  27. everton422 says: Aug 9, 2011 6:24 PM

Is he retiring to London by chance?… zing!

  28. Sandra Lee's Cans says: Aug 9, 2011 6:24 PM

Why are you wasting our time with this drivel when you could be focusing on Ben Leber heading to the Rams? C’mon, man!

  29. beecee71 says: Aug 9, 2011 6:27 PM

how many jobs are in the football media? they can’t all go there when they retire and who wants this guy?

  30. grigshow says: Aug 9, 2011 6:28 PM

I had held out hope that he’d resign with the Dolphins and take the 3rd or 4th ILB role but it’s no big loss. He’s easily replaceable – he’s a decent run stuffer but makes no big plays and isn’t great in coverage.

Thanks for the hilarious comments through the years.

  31. benh999 says: Aug 9, 2011 6:28 PM

Too bad he was better known for the feigned stupidity than anything he did on the field.

  32. dennis2488 says: Aug 9, 2011 6:31 PM

he’s famous because he started a fight with a pacifist named matt light. if he didnt get ejected in a game against the patriots nobody would have a clue who this guy is.

  33. daudi88 says: Aug 9, 2011 6:33 PM

Maybe he can take a trip to London now that he knows it exists.

  34. 2mannings1cup says: Aug 9, 2011 6:33 PM

    Loser.

  35. bleedpurplenblack says: Aug 9, 2011 6:39 PM

He could always sell more of his college jerseys, you know, like he “hypothetically” did in college. That’ll earn him some spare bucks..

  36. hendeeze says: Aug 9, 2011 6:40 PM

is retireing supposed to increase college jersey sales?

  37. scoops1 says: Aug 9, 2011 6:40 PM

  38. cookie2117 says: Aug 9, 2011 6:44 PM

  39. NFLJunkie says: Aug 9, 2011 6:44 PM

Got a little excited seeing the headline and thinking I’d never be subjected to another Crowder soundbite again.

Then I got to the part about him pursuing a media career. Oh, great. That’ll be be 10 times worse if someone actually hires him to yap even more for a living.

  40. commandercornpone says: Aug 9, 2011 6:45 PM

now he can go live with cortland and they can sing show tunes all day.

  41. raider17 says: Aug 9, 2011 6:54 PM

Maybe he can replace Warren Sapp! Please somebody, anybody!!!

  42. jetswin5straightsuperbowls says: Aug 9, 2011 6:56 PM

Crowder looks like alien meets preditor

  43. thetooloftools says: Aug 9, 2011 6:58 PM

i personally though he quit years ago.

  44. edenprairieballer says: Aug 9, 2011 6:59 PM

I think Channing will become a great commentator for Nic JR’s Sportcenter. He really speaks at a level that elementary age children connect with.

  45. jpb12 says: Aug 9, 2011 7:03 PM

So, that’ll put him on the same HoF ballot as Randy Moss, Favre and T.O.

Wonder if he’ll be a first ballot guy. :)

  46. deadeye says: Aug 9, 2011 7:03 PM

Crowder was one of the greatest LBs of our time, and he will be missed for generations to come.

  47. green18blue52 says: Aug 9, 2011 7:11 PM

But he WAS always a beast when you uploaded him from ncaa draft class to Madden. Oh how the time, she a flies

  48. wilk71 says: Aug 9, 2011 7:13 PM

I wanted to say something positive in contrast to all the morons that posted before me. Channings got a good head on his shoulders, and was smart enough not to waste his money; I bet he’s collecting from those that weren’t from those off-season loans he may have dished out. He’s great on the radio, and i’m sure he’ll expand his radio show and do well. Though a lifelong Cowboy’s fan I’ve enjoyed watching Channing play and listening to him on the Sid Rosenberg show. Michael Irvin, you were a great player, but give up that time slot.

  49. bigred12 says: Aug 9, 2011 7:14 PM

    good

nav711 says: “Don’t let the door hit your ass on your way out.”

No worries… his isn’t as tender as yours apparently. :)

cooper59101 says: “When has Channing Crowder ever been relevant?”

Whenever it was, I’m sure it doubled your relevancy quotient. lol

    ampats says: “I thought”

    LMFAO!!! Liar. :)

nyjalleffingday says: “Rex Ryan: 1 Channing Crowder: 0″

Career record: Channing Crowder 3, Rex Ryan 1. :)

dennis2488 says: “he’s famous because he started a fight with a pacifist named matt light. if he didnt get ejected in a game against the patriots nobody would have a clue who this guy is.”

You neglected to mention the “pacifist” started the fight and was ejected as well…. not that anyone give’s a flying fling at a donut hole about Matt Light, or the ‘used to be good when they cheated – but 1 and done now’ Patriots. lol

  51. 305fan says: Aug 9, 2011 7:31 PM

    That’s horrible I love clam chowder…..

Oops just read the title and it says Channing Crowder. Disregard.

  52. dinplant says: Aug 9, 2011 7:32 PM

Perhaps this had something to aid in his decision:
“NFL adds game-day tests for performance enhancers”

  53. Matt says: Aug 9, 2011 7:36 PM

He probably just doesn’t wanna test positive for HGH.

  54. bsizemore68 says: Aug 9, 2011 7:40 PM

He could make some scratch as a stand up comedian, I’m sure the boys will support him, until a team lose a few linebacker’s and give him a call. Bill

  55. billsfan1 says: Aug 9, 2011 7:47 PM

He sux so bad that we didn’t want him to replace poz…with the way he looked and sounds, he may have a place for him on the Jamaican bob sled team

  56. bradwins says: Aug 9, 2011 8:17 PM

    Good riddance.

This guy will be washing windshields at a traffic light in less than 5 years.

  57. august1969 says: Aug 9, 2011 8:30 PM

  58. vikinganswer says: Aug 9, 2011 8:44 PM

Big deal, so long, good riddance. You will be back in a year because you’re broke. Why is this news? Who Stockard Channing anyway?

  59. nyjalleffingday says: Aug 9, 2011 9:09 PM

It’s funny, Leon Washington laid him out and he sucked ever since….

OK, OK, I am kidding – he always sucked.

  61. grigshow says: Aug 10, 2011 12:53 AM

I’ve never seen such irrational hate in my life. Crowder was a decent LB – certainly nowhere near great but serviceable for a few years now.

  62. dmiranda33157 says: Aug 10, 2011 6:08 AM

He was full of crap they should’ve got rid of him along time ago I’m glad he’s gone.
