Steelers could get wideout help from Heath Miller, Tyler Grisham

The fact that the Steelers sniffed around Plaxico Burress and Jerricho Cotchery suggests that the team isn’t completely thrilled with its depth chart at the position, even though four of the options (Hines Ward, Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders, Antonio Brown) seem to be pretty solid.

The Steelers nevertheless hope to boost the pass-catching corps. “Looking at our wide receiving corps -- great talent, we have no experience,” Ward said, per Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Bouchette reports that the help likely will come from within, in the form of tight end Heath Miller and receiver Tyler Grisham (pictured). Bouchette writes that Miller has been lining up in the backfield as a receiver “more than ever.” Grisham has become a favorite target of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Miller, in his sixth season, gives both. “It’s something new and exciting,” Miller said. “I’m always up for trying something different. I got exposed to it last year. I’m up for the challenge.”

Grisham, undrafted two years ago out of Clemson, could fill the role of twice-former Steelers wideout Antwaan Randle El. Grisham appeared in four games as a rookie, catching one pass for 14 yards.

That said, Gerry Dulac of the Post-Gazette doesn’t think that Grisham will earn a spot as the fifth wideout when the season begins.
