Bill Romanowski says “lazy” McNabb couldn’t fit with Shanahan

AP

Bill Romanowski played for Mike Shanahan for six years in Denver, and he says that time with Shanahan gives him some insight into why Donovan McNabb was a failure as the Redskins’ quarterback last year.

Specifically, Romanowski said on the Jim Rome Show, Shanahan wants hard workers on his team, and that doesn’t describe McNabb.

“The reason why Donovan McNabb is not in Washington right now is because he was lazy,” Romanowski said. “He didn’t spend the time. Mike Shanahan likes guys who will work really hard. I narrow it down to two things. He’s either lazy, or he’s not very bright to pick up the offense. One or the other. I think he’s bright enough, I just think he was lazy.”

Romanowski also had some thoughts on Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, saying that Tebow should be playing on “some team that doesn’t have a chance in hell to go anywhere.”

Asked what his own approach to Tebow would have been if they had played at the same time, Romanowski said he would have relished the opportunity to drill Tebow.

“I would want to lay him out and put him into next year,” Romanowski said of Tebow. “I’d have him so messed up mentally he’d be like, Oh, God, this Romanowski is crazy.”

If Tebow did conclude that Romanowski is crazy, he wouldn’t be the first.

  1. So Romanowski wants to punch another person in the face until they’re nearly blind

    What a surprise

  2. If I worked for a nutcase like Shanahan, my work ethic might suffer a bit too. And as you can tell by the number of comments I make on PFT, I have a very strong work ethic.

What? You mean I’m not getting paid for this?

  3. Somebody needs to tell Romanowski that the Broncos ARE that “team that doesn’t have a chance in hell to go anywhere”.

  4. If I were McNabb, I wouldn’t be sweating comments from this wingnut. I’m guessing by calling McNabb lazy, he’s insinuating that he doesn’t spit on enough people or cave enough faces in.

  5. Wow Romanowski is still classy. I thought all that class would have left when he was done in the NFL. Maybe if McNabb slammed some steroids and spit on and hit players he would be worthy of Romanowski’s respect?

  6. The thought that people would listen to a “conversation” between Romanowski and Jim Rome is mindboggling.

  7. “He’s either lazy, or he’s not very bright to pick up the offense.” As Donovan once was shocked to hear that a game could end in a tie, I’m not sure that Romo is correct.

Romanowski is nuts, but he’s one of the few former players that gives honest opinions and is entertaining to hear on the radio.

  8. Romanoski isn’t crazy he’s on the juice. He wouldn’t be able to play now with all of the testing going on! It doesn’t matter, he can’t help being a jerk!

  9. There might be a grain of truth to this notion of McNabb lacking dedication, Romanowski notwithstanding. Wasn’t he clueless on overtime rules a while back?

  10. why does he come off so bitter? i guess it has something to do with not getting a chance to coach an NFL team

  11. I continue to be amazed how Tebow brings out the extremes. People either think the Broncos are totally screwing him over by not making him the starter, or go out of their way to disparage him like Romo did here.

Can we not just ignore him like we do with other backups until he does something worth taking notice of…without wishing severe physical harm on him?

  12. “Crazy” isn’t the first word that comes to mind when I think of Bill Romanowski, if you know what I mean.

  13. As an Eagles fan, I think McNabb was/is not bright enough but I wouldn’t call him lazy. The guy does work his tail off in the off season. As far as the Tenow comments go, why would you want to crush your own teammates Bill. Romo, you couldn’t play ball without the roids and you know it, d-ouche bag.

  14. Romanowski and Rome, two geniey-asses in love with themselves. I mean, why even give this guy a vehicle to talk when it’s clear the brain was scrambled a long time ago? Just a has been/never was type getting some air time. Guess they couldn’t book anyone else.

  15. @thephantomstranger “Tebow already plays on a team that isn’t going anywhere.”

    Zing!

    *insert ironic “Whodey!” here

  16. Philly, worried about falling behind NE in the rush to sign injured free agents, ink Steve Smith to a deal.

  17. I appreciate that McNabb is not a criminal and that he hasn’t run to the press to gripe about his critics. But, there’s alot of evidence that says his preparation (mental and physical) is not great. And now he’s old. Good luck Vikings.

  18. Good football players don’t have to get in other players’ heads… they play good football. What a loser…

  19. Romo is correct, he is on a team that isnt going anywhere. I’m pretty sure he meant Jacksonville. I never realized so many people had negative viewpoints to a guy’s mechanics and personal beliefs…yet Tebow has a following. You want to kind of cheer for the guy to make it because he’s an underdog. Unfortunately, NFL passing mechanics are a rhythm that take awhile to absorb coming from a gimmick friendly offense that Tim dominated…its like he was put in position to fail from the get-go.

  20. LOL at all the soft-souled, PC friendly, modern day NFL fans. Maybe instead of attacking Romanowski, perhaps you should consider that this is only like the 5000th time McNabb has been called out for laziness. Maybe there’s a bit of truth to it by those in the know……….which, naturally, excludes all you life-long armchair warriors and your disgusting beer guts hanging out over your belt.

  21. If the best a radio show can do is get a cheater on the air, it’s not much of a show. Romo should crawl under a rock somewhere.

That said, McNabb looks pretty chubby in camp. I hope he’s got a chip on his shoulder and puts in the time.

  22. Romoroid’s got to be pretty dumb to think McNabb’s smart. He’s one of the less intelligent QBs in the NFL but he IS a very hard worker by all accounts.

So he was wrong on both counts. What a surprise.

  23. He also said that Albert’s time in Washington turned him into a “big, spoiled, bitch crybaby.”

Even his wife is juiced up.

  25. 1) McNabb has been praised by teammates for his work ethic and preparation. Just a couple seasons ago Vick praised McNabb for showing him how to study film, how to work out, and how to prepare for a game.

    2) McNabb learned Reid’s version of the West Coast Offense, which by all accounts is a huge playbook and a difficult offense to learn.

    3) McNabb has always been a West Coast Offense quarterback. The Shanny’s were not running such an offense. So McNabb was learning a new offense on top of not being able to make suggestions or changes. Plus, what talent did the Skins have outside of Moss? When McNabb was young, he could carry an offense (he did in Philly for most of his career) but he can’t run like he could when he was young.

    4) Romanowski is an idiot. Does he even know McNabb? Someone get Bill a roid shake, see if he calms down.

  26. Romo should thank his lucky stars, NFL didn’t test for HGH back then. I know he has always be a little off, but the guy now sounds like he’s inhaled way too much deer antler spray.

  27. Romo speaks the truth and you PC dorks want to write him off as being crazy. Im sure half of the league was taking things back then just like they were in baseball. So when TO called him out of shape and lazy was he just crazy too?

McNabb sucked last year if you couldnt see that then stop watching football and go shopping with your boyfriends on Sundays.

  28. you guys left out the part where he mentioned that defenders would like to punish him, and the whole virgin part. that was the best point of that interview..

i could only imagine how a lot of guys would like to go there in the trenches.

  29. As someone who watched McNabb for many years and knowing what Reid requires of his QB’s i have to seriously doubt Mc5 didn’t put in the work. By all accounts here in Philly Mc5 was a tape study guy.

As far as how smart he is i do not know. But he was able to pick up Reid’s system which is considered one of the more complex systems in all of football pretty quickly (he did go to 4 straight NFC championship games starting in his second season, his first full season as a starter)

Mc5’s biggest problems are his lack of accuracy and his in ability to let things go. I am sure as soon as they pulled him in a game that were still in Mc5 never let that go. At that point he probably didn’t want to play for Shanny anymore.

I guess we’ll see if shanny was/is the problem or not this season. If Washington wins the East (lol @Grossman) and Mc5 and Fat Al don’t play well, then they are just lazy and shanny is a genius. The more likely senerio is that Mc5 plays much better for the Vikings and a coach he respects, same goes for Fat Al who should play better for a coach that shows him at least a tiny bit of respect and doesn’t blast him in the media . Also my guess is that Shanny and his skins go 2-14 perhaps if everything goes right they go 4-12 even with the two GREAT QB’s who just haven’t been given a chance (except for the ones they already got, but they don’t count because the genius coach and his even more genius kid weren’t coaching them).

As far as Romo goes, hes a nut case. He couldn’t make it in the NFL without doing Roids. Its kinda pathetic for someone who wouldn’t have been able to play in the CFL without roids to call someone else lazy. Perhaps if Romo had worked a lil bit harder instead of doing roids his testicles would be bigger than rasins and those “frequent and painful erections wouldn’t be happening” (thats what i remember from the “this is what roids do to you” poster in health class lol)

Just the fact that Romo doesn’t realize that the Broncos are going no where should tell you how valid his football opinions are.

Also just a side note i watched Romo play here in Philly for a few years and he sucked. He constantly over ran plays or fails on tackles trying to kill someone in stead of just bringing them down. This guy is “great” in his own mind only. He is one of the most overrated linebackers of all time. He was an average player at best who because of Roid rage made a few big hits that people remember. No offense (because he scares me) to mr Romo, but dude you suck, your lazy, and by the way you speak and act i am guessing your not smart enough to pick up being a human. Go F yourself!

Signed someone who doesn’t like Mc5 or Tebow.

  30. Oh Noooooo Mr. Bill! Retard. Roidanowski. Call him what you wish…. he’s just a F’ing jerk. like his words hold water?

  31. If Romo didnt say it, Shanahan would have found a way for his mouthpiece, Schefter, to get it out into the press.

On a side note, is it bad to hope your favorite team wins only two games so their coach and his punk ass son are fired?

    1. McNabb showed him how to work out and watch film? What…by watching film of him puking the in 2004 SB? Perhaps it was learning what not to do?

    2. Shanahan was the offensive coordinator for the 49ers. Now, he may not have been running a true West Coast, but how freaking hard could it have been?

    3. You apparently didn’t see what Philly fans did for years: Walking back to the line. Smirking at interceptions. Passive aggressive and oversensitive in press conferences. Never taking responsibility. Declining physical skills. Inaccuracy and streakiness. Getting tired.

    We. Told. You.

  33. Romanowski
Get over yourself dumbs. Why are you even talking about something you know nothing about. You weren’t there so how the f*&k would you know about another man’s work ethic. How about get back in your cage and take another dose of something and stop hating. it is over for you, go sit down.

  34. Romo was as scummy a player as I’ve ever seen. So why would I care what he thinks? This would be like interviewing James Harrison in 10 years. Let him retire into obscurity.

The thought that people would listen to a “conversation” between Romanowski and Jim Rome is mindboggling.

    ————————————————–

    Exactly.

  36. So what are the chances that before the interview, Jim Rhome instructed Wild Bill to “Have a take, don’t suck, and don’t be a clone.” Hard to decide which one of those two is a bigger douche. Listening to Jim Rhome is the radio equivalent of being kicked in the nuts.

Oh and before I forget, “Rack Me!”

  37. Tebow is hated simply because he’s a Christian. When Christians are successful and positive, the world does whatever it can to tear them down. Simple as that.

Shame people can’t just share in positivity; instead they’ve got to attempt to destroy it.

Give Tebow props; if anything, discredit Romanowski, a guy who spit on people, talked more trash than most, beat people up, and abused drugs – and let his wife take the hit for it.

    It’s Jim R-O-M-E, genius.

  39. I agree w/ him RE McNugget. But he’s still a roided out jackass.

I still say Terrell Davis was high as a kite that second half. Romo-back was too.

If you bring those team docs to Warshington, you’d see some performances….

  40. ‘Romanowski also had some thoughts on Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, saying that Tebow should be playing on “some team that doesn’t have a chance in hell to go anywhere.”

Who does he think Tebow plays for the Patriots? If Tebow should only be playing for a team that doesnt have a chance in hell of going anywhere then hes in the right place. I dont mean that as a shot at the Broncos or their fans. Its just the truth, they’re going to be 1 of the worst teams in the league again this year and its probably going to take a few more years until thats no longer the case.

So what the hell is he talking about? The Broncos arent a super bowl contender and their incumbent qb is on the last year of his contract. There isnt a better team in the league for Tebow to play for then the Broncos.

All the steroids have made this guy completely delusional . No one who is right in the head would consider the Broncos as a team that was going somewhere. And his ego is ridiculous. He actually believes that he knows what Mcnabb was doing in practice. And he believes he knows whats going on with the Broncos bc he played there a decade ago. I guess he thinks bc he played there years ago that that makes them better then they really are. He would have to if he thinks they are to good of a team for Tebow to play on.

I dunno why but this guy just pisses me off . He should just grab some pins and plungers shoot up and shut up.
