Ricky Stanzi may be a relative unknown, but as a Hawkeyes fan, I can tell you this guy has improved every year of his college career. Each year he threw more TDs and fewer interceptions, leading to a 25/6 senior year. I was as shocked as anybody when the Chiefs drafted him, but I believe that Pioli sees a guy who is still improving and can be developed into a solid back-up. And please tell me this article is not actually suggesting that we might want to pick up Croyle again? There's a reason that tool was set adrift...he's horrible! I'd rather roll the dice with Palko and Stanzi.

It is rolling the dice yes, but a lot of teams do it. It's just tough to justify spending that type of $$ on a backup QB when you have a starter making good $$. Yes I know the Chiefs are under the cap, but still.

You think the Pats are in better shape w/ Hoyer???? They had him as the sole backup when TB was coming off ACL surgery and Hoyer was a rookie. It was scary, and I like Hoyer. But then again it was a little scary having just Cassel pretty much as TB's backup going into 08 when Cassel was coming off a horrendous preseason that had a lot of us wondering if he would even stay on the team. We saw how that worked out. :)
