Panthers lose starting wideout Gettis to torn ACL

David Gettis AP

We interrupt covering Thursday night’s preseason game to update an injury stemming from practice.

The Panthers announced that second-year receiver David Gettis tore his ACL, which should knock him out for the season.  Gettis was the early favorite to start opposite Steve Smith.  He showed a lot of promise with 508 yards as a rookie.

It’s a tough early blow for a Panthers team that already lost nose tackle Ron Edwards for the season.  They do have second-year player Brandon LaFell ready to step in.  Legedu Naanee figures to be the team’s slot receiver.

This is something a coward would write, someone who has no faith in his own team so he wishes the quarterback of another is injured. It’s all good though, Vince Young would beat the Jets.

I’m no Eagles fan, but to wish an injury on anybody is lame.

Yet another major injury with this very shortened off-season. Too bad, really – Gettis showed some real promise as a rookie. Lee Evans could be the guy they could bring in opposite Smith, and he would provide Newton with another outside threat. Get the deal done. Not many guys out there for all positions.

are people really still butthurt over something that Vick spent time in federal prison for?

Geeeez. On a post that has absolutly nothing to do with the Eagles, the haters still find their way in. But really, wishing that Vick tears his ACL is as low as it gets. People need to grow up….

We have bigger concerns at CB and DT. Why would we trade for Lee Evens who is over hyped year after year?
