We interrupt covering Thursday night’s preseason game to update an injury stemming from practice.

The Panthers announced that second-year receiver David Gettis tore his ACL, which should knock him out for the season. Gettis was the early favorite to start opposite Steve Smith. He showed a lot of promise with 508 yards as a rookie.

It’s a tough early blow for a Panthers team that already lost nose tackle Ron Edwards for the season. They do have second-year player Brandon LaFell ready to step in. Legedu Naanee figures to be the team’s slot receiver.
