Ike Taylor breaks thumb in preseason opener

Ike Taylor AP

The top priority for every NFL team in the preseason is to emerge from it with all key players healthy.

For Pittsburgh, there’s already a problem.

Cornerback Ike Taylor suffered a broken thumb on Friday night against the Redskins.  Owner Art Rooney, II, disclosed the injury during halftime of the KDKA-TV coverage of the game.

Also, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered hand and hip injuries that are regarded as minor.

Safety Ryan Clark completed the Trifecta with an injury that also is regarded as minor.

Whether and to what extent Taylor misses any time remains to be seen.

Did be break it whilst dropping an interception?

  2. Bubby Brister says: Aug 12, 2011 9:11 PM

It’s okay. Ike Taylor didn’t know he had any hands anyway.

  3. wwwfella says: Aug 12, 2011 9:14 PM

on a side note why not forgo the kickoff all together and just give them the ball at the 20

  4. Stiller43 says: Aug 12, 2011 9:14 PM

As long as it doesn’t affect his awesome ability to catch the ball when it’s right to him!!!

No, but seriously, he’ll be alright…if Favre can win games playing with broken fingers on his throwing hand, Ike can play with a broken thumb.

  5. hobartbaker says: Aug 12, 2011 9:14 PM

Oh no, how is Ike going to work out the unified theory of gravitational mass with a broken thumb?

He broke it when he sat down.

  8. drgfri says: Aug 12, 2011 9:17 PM

Are you sure it’s not a bathroom door guarding injury?

  9. elliotlc says: Aug 12, 2011 9:22 PM

Don’t mark this injury down as one that could be avoided by not having a lockout this year haha it seems like people blame them all on too much rest. But the Achilles injury frequency is weird..

I don’t know how, it sounds like he had must’ve had it up his b*tt with as many yards as Santana Moss had in the 1st quarter!

Where’s all the “going for 7″ comments from the steeler fans? You’ll find at least 3 on every other post on this site but not the one actually ABOUT the steelers? Weird.

Well that’s one good Redskin strategy; take ‘em out in the preseason.

  19. hailskins4life says: Aug 12, 2011 9:58 PM

    @wwwfella

Perhaps you missed Brandon Banks 58 yard kickoff return?

People need to calm down with the new kickoff rule. With the defensive players not allowed to get a running start before the kick, teams will adjust and you will have more returners taking kicks back from inside their own endzone.

  20. halftermguv says: Aug 12, 2011 10:05 PM

    Going for SEVEN….of course.

Who else is going for their seventh Lombardi Trophy?

    NOBODY…absolutely NOBODY!

  22. finster1989 says: Aug 12, 2011 10:17 PM

There’s no mistake what position the Steelers and Redskins are in. The Skins are gonna try to win the Andrew Luck sweepstakes and the Steelers will continue to be a good team. Not a dig, just an observation.

  23. mitchem85 says: Aug 12, 2011 10:37 PM

finster, you’re an idiot. that’s not.an observation, skins will see your team and whip that azz this season. bank on it

Green and gold???? When did the Redskins start wearing green and gold???

  26. Deb says: Aug 12, 2011 10:47 PM

Well, Ike, let’s hope there’s no surgery. We should have brought in a corner. Thanks for the intellectually elevated conversation. It’s been lovely

  27. jacksaysfu says: Aug 12, 2011 10:51 PM

Maybe rex was right when he said the skins would win the div ……Wow i can’t even finish that sentence without cracking up. Wash hasn’t won the EAST since 1999, what a joke
    FAIL !!!

As a Steeler fan, I am sick and tired of Steeler fans using the “Going for 7″ bit and the “We Got 6″ thing. Everyone in the world knows it, Steeler fans know it, non-Steeler fans know it. Give it up please and let us focus on the the season. How can you other bumbleheads conclude about the Steeler season after the first preseason game where the Steelers’ starters played 1/2 of the first quarter only?

Its not like Ike intercepts the ball anyways. He can still lock down a receiver with a broken thumb
And to whoever was calling Big Ben soft…you are an idiot. This is the same guy that played and won against the Ravens with a broken foot and a broken nose

  33. 63sixtythree says: Aug 13, 2011 1:37 AM

Ike can’t catch ? Well that suxx… Of course I didn’t know defensive players were hired to catch the football …. Does he get beat ? Yeah … Rag on him for that, not the fact that he can’t catch …

    “Touchdown on..Ike Taylor
    Green and yellow!”

Forgot to mention the TDs on Troy.
    anyways,
Steelers probably should have went after Johnathon Joesph, that’s their only weakness on defense, that weak secondary….tbh

Writing them off after the first preseason game? Man, are you going to disappointed this year!

  36. ravensj5 says: Aug 13, 2011 8:40 AM

Steelers D managed to make Rex Grossman look like a HOFer!!

  37. daburgher says: Aug 13, 2011 8:43 AM

pitt starters were in for about 5 plays. skins were in for 2 quarters. pitt defense didn[t even play harrison, troy, or mcfadden.. but good job skins! your team looked fantastic against 2nd and 3rd stringers!

  38. watermelon1 says: Aug 13, 2011 8:50 AM

He’ll be okay. He’s not missing Week 1, guaranteed.

As for Ryan Clark… I think I speak for everyone when I say… “wish the injury was more severe.” Perhaps some sort of broken jaw so nobody has to hear him talk this season. And two broken wrists so he can’t use Twitter either.

  39. dd393 says: Aug 13, 2011 9:13 AM

What happened? Did someone punch him in the nose?

    I love ravensfan.
Wake me up when you beat us with Flaco.
The rest of you preseason Groupies thinking your team is good, cough…Skins, get a grip.

Grossman is good for one or two games a year and that is about it. You know it, everyone knows it.
    Next.

  45. Deb says: Aug 13, 2011 11:41 AM

    @watermelon1 …

No, you do not speak for me when wishing injury on a player, even if you were talking about someone I loathed … which I don’t. Ryan irritates me at times, on the field and off. But he’s a good player and has been a great union rep. Come on.

I know … he’s lost in a time warp in Dallas. How many times to we have to congratulate these trolls? They won but we’re all they think about

Agree with your comment on the Goingfor7 folks. “One for the thumb” got embarrassing by 1985 ;)

Did he get himself caught in his zipper?
