Donald Jones gets first crack at replacing Lee Evans

Florio broke down why the trade of Lee Evans made a lot of sense for the Bills.

From Buffalo’s perspective, they wanted to get their young guys more playing time.  That process will start Saturday night, with Donald Jones.

BuffaloBills.com reports Jones will start Saturday night opposite Stevie Johnson.  David Nelson will play the slot with Roscoe Parrish hurt.

Jones, a second year player, has opened eyes throughout camp.  SI’s Peter King wrote that Jones is a favorite of the quarterbacks and the coaching staff.  Marcus Easley could also work himself into the starter’s mix, but it looks like Jones will get the first crack to start.  New free agent pickup Brad Smith will get his share of snaps and the Bills also have former Chargers wideout Craig Davis.

We still don’t trust Buffalo’s defense, but their offense should be a lot of fun to watch this year. Chan Gailey, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Fred Jackson should lead a surprisingly dangerous group.

There’s reason for tempered optimism in Buffalo

I disagree about the defense. I think this unit could be the most improved in the NFL. Solid secondary, improved LB corps and a much improved D-line. Don’t forget about the addition of wannstadt. I think this defense has some potential

You and Donald Duck would be a great pair. Enjoy your joyless football season

Peter King has a man crush on this guy. The Bills are in a tough division and the defense is an abyss, but they will at least be fun to watch from an offensive point of view. Cant wait to see what Chan Gailey does with Brad Smith. He did make Kordell look really good in that slash role.

Chan Gailey is an offensive guru. no matter who plays for him, they will score points this year.

Donald Jones is a good receiver, but no where as near as good as Evans. Two totally different styles of play. One thing the Bills coaching staff won’t be getting out of this young core of wideouts is a player to stretch the field. The only receiver that could remotely fill those shoes is Roscoe Parrish and he can’t seem to stay healthy.

Not only did Buffalo lose out on this trade(4th rd=below average) they set their receiving corps back a few seasons.

David Nelson could stand to benefit from the Lee Evans trade. He will play almost exclusively from the slot and with defenses focusing on Johnson he can use his large frame (6’5″, 220lbs) to box out smaller defenders, much like Marques Colston.

@xstaticonradio Okay, you’re mad about Evans leaving. WE GET IT.

“One thing the Bills coaching staff won’t be getting out of this young core of wideouts is a player to stretch the field.”
SJ in his rookie year caught more deep balls then Evans. SJ can certainly stretch the field, and Donald Jones has shown he can do it in practice. And this is completely ignoring the fact that Roscoe Parrish is FAST.

its up to fitzy to stretch the field.
