He may not be dirty, but he's elfing stupid. This is the 3rd time he's been fined for hit to the QB. And he's only played one season and a pre-season game. When will he learn? When he's suspended for 2 games? 4? When he costs his team a playoff game with one of his late hits? Or costs his team a game because he didn't play? You can't fling a QB to the ground!

He is dirty, and I don't like it, but it's smart overall. Any hesitation an offensive player or QB has with Suh coming shows its working. Rack up some fines but start to create fear that Suh can hurt you, and Suh wins. Small price to pay.

That hit was 100% dirty. Yes football is physical, yes guys can get hurt, and yes its part of the game. But a line has to be drawn somewhere. The Cutler call is questionable, but the Delhomme hit was dirty too. Watch what he does to Dalton, not even talking about the helmet. He had him wrapped up and he still proceeded to slam him into the ground. So yes- Suh is a dirty player

I hate to say it but King Roger should have hit Suh for $100,000 for the pile drive he put on Dalton.

That was totally over the top and the kind of thing that can snap a spinal column if a head strikes the ground wrong.

I am all for letting them play but when some 320 pounder takes on a 200 pounder and flings him around it is nothing but a recipe for disaster.

Suh acts as if he does not care...I know for a fact if he were to p'ee off the wrong offensive lineman he will be "rolled up on" and then...problem solved.

There are kids starting fifth grade this fall that have never seen, heard nor smelled a Lions team that had a winning season. The tough talk rings a little hollow.
==================================
Yeah, but they absolutely destroyed Green Bay - knocked their starting QB out - this is going to be a tough defense with Suh and Fairly..just the beginning ...the true black-and-blue is back.

HAIL MEGATRON!!!

If this game is really too wussy for you, there are plenty of MMA options for you. I still would have thought the play would have been dirty had Dalton’s helmet stayed on.

I’d bet a majority of Lions fans complaining this were also up in arms when Julius Peppers injured Stafford on a clean play.

Can’t have it both ways, guys.

Sorry, I've been a Lions fan my entire life. I've lived in Detroit my entire life. All of my friends and family are lifelong Lions fans. I've never heard a single fan, radio personality, sports columnist or any other person affiliated with Detroit complain about the Julius Peppers hit. You are completely wrong.

I remember when football was a tough sport. Today, it's all about the quarterbacks and player safety. If I were getting paid millions of dollars ever year, I sure as Hell wouldn't worry about concussions. If I wanted to watch a macho ballet, I'd turn on a basketball game. Football is a tough man's sport, or it used to be.

Glad you're not on a jury bearfan51.

I question your intelligence. Does that automatically make you an idiot?

I leave with one name. Dick Butkus.
" Wikipedia:
At one point, Butkus gained a reputation as one of the meanest players on an otherwise bad Bears team in the late 1960's. During the 1969 season in which the Bears finished 1-13, the team played against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Wrigley Field in what would ultimately be the Bears's only win that season. During the game, an incident with the Steelers then-rookie "Mean Joe" Greene led to Greene spitting into Butkus's face and challenging him to a fight after Butkus committed what Greene considered a dirty hit on a teammate of Greene's" ?????

Ive seen a few of his hits that were a little on the rough side (head and neck and body slamming and such), but the so called "dirty player" is all about hype. I didnt think many of Harrisons hits were worthy of the fines he got. Suh is just getting all the hype now, so he should watch it. Because, as stated above, if he ever hits one of the pretty boy qb faces of the NFL, there will be a Congressional Hearing.

And I didnt think the hit on Dalton was dirty, his helmet just came off (probably cause he used someone elses helmet like Bobby Boucher cause he never plays) And the hit on Cutler last year was downright BS

Dirty hit? Now thats a joke. He grabbed Dalton around the shoulder pads from behind and just threw him to the ground. It was not a body slam. A body slam is when you throw someone over your shoulder. Suh just grabbed him and pulled backwards to bring him to the ground. Dalton threw the ball after he was in the grasp. Suh even made sure that Daltons head didnt hit the turf. Whats next? Are quarter backs going to start wearing flags? I'm tired of this league trying to turn it into the national dont hurt me league. If the league keeps this up, in 10 years they will all be wearing flags there will be no losers. Only winners and every team will win the super bowl every year so no ones feelings gets hurt and after every game they will hold hands and sing "kum ba ya". Dirty player? Give me a break.

Violent play is, without exception, due to players who either can't win based on their athletic ability and skill, or are too insecure about their skill to allow themselves to be judged on it.

Really. There are no other options. It's one of those two, or both.

What I also hate about these lunkheads is their lack of perspective about the value of the money they're throwing away. Instead of pissing away $15K on a cheap shot, Suh could take that money and pay for a chunk of an underprivileged kid's college degree. Or pay for a major medical procedure that someone can't afford to have. Or bail out a family looking at financial ruin on a loan they can't pay.

Really. There are no other options. It’s one of those two, or both.

What I also hate about these lunkheads is their lack of perspective about the value of the money they’re throwing away. Instead of pissing away $15K on a cheap shot, Suh could take that money and pay for a chunk of an underprivileged kid’s college degree. Or pay for a major medical procedure that someone can’t afford to have. Or bail out a family looking at financial ruin on a loan they can’t pay.

But no, these jerks want to “send a message”. Well, they’re sending a message alright, and the message is that they are dishonorable. They are not true men, but pretenders at being men.

Even if you don't think the way Suh slammed Dalton to the ground is dirty (I definitely think it was), you can't ignore the fact that it was clearly a late hit. Dalton had already thrown the ball, and it wasn't like this was a case of the defender having too much momentum to pull away before hitting the qb. He doesn't need to slam a qb to the ground who's already thrown the ball. I'm pretty sure that move is not "how the game was meant to be played."

Suh's an awesome player, and I hope his career just keeps getting better. Plus, he seems like a pretty good guy. But I really hope he rethinks his attitude on this one, or at least that his coaches "encourage" him to rethink it. You can be aggressive without being dirty.

There's hard-nosed play and hard hitting which everyone wants for their team. Then there's outright dirty play, which the NFL should rightly curtail. YES!
Once is an accident, you develop a pattern you’re dirty.
The hit against Cutler was legal but it was definitely unnecessary. He was already going to the ground.
But, what he did to Dalton wasn’t football and it was bush league.
The Detroit Lions of all teams don’t need 15-yard penalties.
Harrison and the Steelers can deal with it. Because they are actually good.
-----------------
Still talking about that huh.........2 posts later. (see "lions off to fast start" post)
I thought you said "good teams move on". Who can't let go?
LOSER......
P.S. How did your starters fair? Cutler was 1 for 1 for 0 yards, and had no protection ...and against the Bills who were not even scheming to stop anything yet.
Say what you want.... You are officially pissing your pants.

It’s funny, I’ve never heard/read about a Bears fan ever even bringing the Cutler hit up (probably because the Bears won the game). It’s always Lions fans using it as some point of pride.

I guess when you’re a Detroit fan, the only thing to get excited about is when your nose tackle cheap-shots an opposing QB from behind.

______________________________________

Goes to show what your dumb ass knows moron, Lions play a base 4-3…there is NO nose tackle in a 4-3 stupid…but you actually believe your Bears were good and not overrated as all get out last season too so, I shouldn’t expect from from ya’s huh
-----------------------------------------

Actually, in many 4-3 defenses, they do use the term nose tackle. The other DT is the under tackle. A base, vanilla 4-3 may have the DT headup on the Gs, but most 4-3s have one DT in the weakside A gap (the NT) and the other on the strongside Gs outside eye. This is designed to funnel inside runs to the strongside A gap and the MLB. If you notice the DTs on your team are switching back and forth from the right side to the left side, it is because they are putting their NT and UT in the appropriate spots against the line formation that the offense is in.

Do you have any other misconceptions that you would like to have cleared up?

Clarification @ ruck1707 and depotnator:

I stated earlier in the thread that this Dalton hit was fine. He pulled him back and down to the ground. That's football, and not what I'm talking about. Read again.

And the kind of actions that Suh is getting a bad reputation for does not cause fear. It incites rage. Blowing by the blocker and burying the QB causes fear. Running down a player in the flat, stopping their momentum, then picking them up and slamming them to the turf just gets the linemen keyed up to bury him. Brock Lesnar did that once against my HS team. He didn't lay a hand on a ballcarrier the rest of the game.
