It's pretty funny how this guy gets so much criticism. I mean after all he's only led his team to 5 NFCCGs in 12 years. Who was the last QB to do that? In addition, how many weapons did he have?

Give the guy a break. Last year he played in an offense that he has never played in before. I'd rather see how he does before I start criticizing the guy for no reason.

bobnelsonjr says: “It is going to take the vikings years to aquire the players needed to compete in the NFL.” Agreed. But first the Vikes have to acquire someone who’s capable of finding and hiring player personnel staff that’s competent and a GM who doesn’t hose up the draft. But here’s some good news: the Packers have to get rid of up to 37 players pretty soon
========================
Why do you even ponder posting?
This isn't MJS online, this PFT.

I'm not going to through all the players that are homegrown on this roster, but they have 2 ROY players they drafted on offense.
Favre-via jets
Sharper, Longwell, Ferguson for a 1/2 season.

Yeah, they sure have picked up a lot of Ex packers in the last 2o years haven't they?

It's old and stupid. It's also ignorant. But, I shouldn't be suprised. It's a common trait of your fanbase.

Phillyhouse, it's not "hate" it's just that I have an issue with people (a) blowing things out of proportion, (b) buying into McNabb's self-promoted / perpetuating martyrdom.

You offer some prime examples...

1) "But what other QB has gotten as much unwarranted scrutiny as McNabb?"

I lived in NYC and Eli was basically called the special needs Manning brother, and was trashed by Tiki in public. He didn't hang himself on a cross, he won a Super Bowl.

Peyton was killed for years as incapable of winning the big one. He never cried. He kept at it and won. Same with Dirk Nowitzki. Did you ever hear him whining about the scrutiny?

I was in Boston the week after they lost to the Jets. Brady was trashed as having lost focus due to Giselle. They were ripping the hair and ugg boots.

McNabb isn't even tops in Philly in terms of unwarranted scrutiny. Cole Hamels is. Cole didn't hang himself on a cross or throw a decade-long pity party. He won a World Series MVP! And he was still booed his first start by bad fans, and he just blew it off and went back out. That's a man.

2) He gets booed by 40 dopes from WIP on draft day.

That was a paid radio stunt that 99.9% of the fans had nothing to do with and 95% found repulsive. Yet, McNabb and his mommy and daddy NEVER let anyone forget that day! He used it to further his passive-aggressive narrative.

Reggie Miller was booed on draft day because they wanted Damon Bailey in a Pacers uniform. Didn't know that, did you? You know why...because Reggie never mentioned.

3) Rush Limbaugh’s retarded commentary was totally from left field. Then he had B Hop and the president of the Philly NAACP chiming in with their nonsense.

No doubt. But I believe the NAACP dude was angry over the "black on black crime" comment, which trivialized a city-wide problem of great tragedy. That was , actually, when McNabb "lost" me as a fan. Rush and B Hop are dopes.

How about A-Rod? After his milestone HR (500?) the New York Daily News headline read: "Congrats on your tainted record". He said nothing. McNabb and his mommy and daddy would have combusted.

4) Brian Baldinger and Bill Romonowski gave their .02.

Baldinger said McNabb didn't like to listen to coaching, because he cannot take criticism. Subsequent events in DC (wristband and battle with Kyle) support the claim. As does the fact that McNabb has several deficiencies that never improved after a decade in the league.

5) And finally, you had the uninformed meathead fans who were quick to point out McNabb’s “wormkillers”, but slow to give him credit for his low interception rate.

Happens all the time, fans isolate a players flaws and ignore their srengths because they get spoiled. Most notably with Mike Schmidt and Ryan Howard. Mike cried about it once then realized it only made it worse. Howard has never said anything about idiot fans suggesting he be platooned against LHP's.

I do respect your core message - but what McNabb faced aside from #3 (none of which involved Philly fans) is COMMONPLACE in sports among superstars. Does that make it right? No, but that's life and why the QB gets the big bucks.

You play in Philly, Boston, NY...it's tough. It isn't for everyone. But it's a fact of life.

Lotsa hate on the vikes, but not much intelligent commentary.

I'd hoped for better, but then why should I have?

Call me old-school, but if all you've got is smack to talk, you should shut your trap. I guess some people just like the sound of their own voices. Just like some prissy little 5 year old.

We don't know much yet. Any fan of the NFL knows this. Why the trash talk? Trying to compensate for something?

We have to "agree to disagree". Like a guy said earlier, before McNabb, the Eagles didn't do much of anything. Sure you had the Reggie White years, but they didn't go deep into the playoffs.

With McNabb the Eagles always had a chance, despite having a less than stellar offense.

You criticize McNabb for not being able to handle criticism. But what other QB has gotten as much unwarranted scrutiny as McNabb? He gets booed by 40 dopes from WIP on draft day. It’s going to be a long season for you probably ending in a 4 – 12 record, at which point the rest of the NFC North will be laughing right along with you. I’m sure you’ll still think it’s funny, right?
-------------------------------------

That would be funny. It would also be historic. You see, if your prediction were to somehow come true, it would be the first time that the Vikings have followed a losing record with a worse one since the merger. Granted, it also happened in '62 and '67, but they have only posted 9 losing records since '67. They might be short a few trophies, but at least they have never been perennial losers.

phillyhouse...

1. "Maybe he shouldn’t have co-signed ..."

That makes no difference. The action was the same.

2. "...McNabb rarely cost us games."

Oh, really? Lookit, QB gets to much credit for wins and too much blame for losses. He embraced the former, played the martyr when it came to the latter. That's a major character flaw and anti-classy.

3. "Still, that doesn’t make McNabb a “bad guy.”

Never said he was. But it makes him a C- leader. Which is why no one ever complains about him leaving.

4. McNabb did not lobby for Owens. That was debunked. And Owens was crazy, but you knew that when you signed him. Everyone had to placate him. A SB was at stake.

5. "Besides, what should he do?"

I'd have burned the stadium down. But I don't market myself as a "team leader" who's "classy". Like McNabb does.

6. He never worked on the in-game plan like Manning did on the sidelines. But neither did Reid. So it could be systematic.

7-8. That was Asante Samuel, who I believe was trying to get traded to Arizona in the post-game congrats.

9. How about his press conference in DC, when he implied he was never on a team with a running game. It was one of his unfunny jokes.

I cheered for him and defended him for years, wanted to see him succeed. But I never got why people, despite the evidence, saw him as classy and therefore above criticism. Why? Because he never got arrested? Well, neither does Romo or Owens. And we'd kill them if they did stuff like McNabb did.

Oh, really? Lookit, QB gets to much credit for wins and too much blame for losses. He embraced the former, played the martyr when it came to the latter. That’s a major character flaw and anti-classy.

3. “Still, that doesn’t make McNabb a “bad guy.”

Never said he was. But it makes him a C- leader. Which is why no one ever complains about him leaving.

4. McNabb did not lobby for Owens. That was debunked. And Owens was crazy, but you knew that when you signed him. Everyone had to placate him. A SB was at stake.

5. “Besides, what should he do?”

I’d have burned the stadium down. But I don’t market myself as a “team leader” who’s “classy”.

And we’d kill them if they did stuff like McNabb did.

Plus, you admit he threw the defense under the bus. You just think, by your comment, that it was justified.

But that's still throwing people under the bus.

Again, would either Manning or Brady do that? Romo? Ryan? Rivers? Brees?

He's a one of a kind. A leader who no one will follow.

Look at Vick on the sideline. That's a leader, they all rally to him. I never saw McNabb get that kind of response. And neither did you.

kspl,

"...last year Vick and Reid said the same thing that some players showed Their youth. No one twisted their words."

When did they say that? And how were McNabb's words "twisted"?

3) "...I don’t remember Donovan saying that though."

Postgame interview. You missed it. I guess we'll ignore McNabb digging them into such a hole, and missing a wide open Westbrook on the final drive.

4) I don’t recall him saying “I wasn’t the only reason we lost”.

Heard the sound clip on WIP, will find out. Could you ever imagine Manning or Brady saying that?

5) why should he help negotiate t.o’s contract. He’s not his agent and it’s none f his business. All TO did was throw him under the bus every chance he got. I wouldn’t speak up for that POS either

He shouldn't, but then he went to bat for Westbrook. You knew Owens was crazy, so the "leader of the team" has to keep him from exploding. As opposed to poling him with a stick. That was the bargain the team and players made when TO came in. And McNabb made a ton of money off of TO's success.

6) "players hardly ever speak up when a player leave a team because they have to toe the company line..."

Not one word on or off the record. No leaks. Enthusiasm for the new QB. When Owens was gone you had half the team express their regret via leaks to the media. We know this.

7) he never said he didn’t have a good rb or wr’s his whole career, which he didn’t. The tv personalities are the ones who say that. Donovan never once publicly complained about anyone.

Donovans nods his head in agreement. When he was introdiced as a Redskin he made a huge deal out of having a running game. Look at the tape.

The Youth comment was clearly throwing the receivers under the bus. If you can't see that, you're willfully delusional.

The windows is closing, but you’re wrong elsewhere. Favre would have won them a SB were it not for the fumbles in the NFC championship. His INT at the end was unfortunate, but it wouldn’t have mattered without the five fumbles (or whatever).

As for Peterson, there is no real evidence he’s declining. He’s also only 26 years old and in his 5th season. RB’s don’t have much of a shelf life, but 26? Please.

I agree though that they are not going to be a real contender. Especially with McNutts at QB.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I know the fumbles were a big part of that loss, but the bottom line is that Favre was the guy with ball in his hands at the end of the game with a legit shot to win. Nobody is going to remember the five fumbles. They will remember Favre throwing a pass across his body into Tracy Porters chest. As a Packer fan I told the Viking fans that I know to temper their enthusiasm. As good as Brett was in the regular season, the last ten years of his Green Bay career were filled with disappointing playoff games. At least you guys got a good one out of him against the Boys.

I do agree though that the idea that Peterson is declining is pretty out there. The dude is a beast and until he shows legit signs of slowing down, I am going to nervous whenever he lines up against the Pack.

For a team with several new offense additions, a new offensive coodinator, and two QB's who weren't there last year, how high can your expectations be for the first preseason game?

McNabb looked great from what little we saw of him. You can tell he knows these receivers well considering he's been playing with them for less than 2 weeks.

Webb looked very shaky. He's still a guy who will run when there's space to do so. However T-Jack did this in his 4th year, so he has time to improve that.

Ponder I thought looked great. The sacks were just bad o-line play. His throws were on target, and he would have converted a 4th down in the redzone if the receiver hadn't dropped the pass. He was great throwing on the run.

People put way to much emphasis on stats in the preseason. I throw them out. You have to watch these games to know the real story.

People see 3 pts put up by Minnesota and think their offense was awful. Truth was they looked very solid, but couldn't keep drives going long enough to get scores. Watch this team against Seattle next week. At least 2 scores will be put up by the offense.

Just wait till the season and the Vikes will be together and start to quiet all the Pecker fans out there, look at them the Browns rolled over them also against the packs starters, so I bet they are all saying it just preseason, that's right it is so any comment saying McNabb sucks, or poor Vikings fans or a Vikings are going to be bad don't know any thing about football, maybe they should go watch chess instead, it moves slower most the time and they will be able to catch on better.lol

@phillyhouse222

I agree with u, I'm not saying he's elite anymore either although I'm hoping he has a great year as long as they don't play the eagles. But I followed the team since before he was there. They were horrible, he gets there and they were contenders every year, I appreciate the winning and how he was always a professional and represented our city well. That's why I dont understand all the hate for him. He simply doesn't deserve it, it makes zero sense

I love all the hate....it's funny in its ignorance.

"aging defense" - because replacing 4 starters with younger players naturally leads to the conclusion that the D is aging. Hey moron, they have 2 DL, 2 LB, and 1 DB who have played 6 seasons or more currently on the roster, and one of the LBs is a special teamer.

"depleted dline" - Ummmmm......two were showed the door, one was signed, and they drafted two. By my count, there have 2 PBers, one good starter, one good rotational guy-turned starter, and 4 promising youngsters behind them.

"depleted oline" - Wow, you must really think McKinnie is great. Since he's the only OL that is gone..... And with one FA signed and two drafted, it obviously is lacking in personnel.

"Peterson is declining" - HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! Oh yes, the 5th year back posted 147 yards and 1 TD less than his career average last year, the first time he has NOT rushed for 1300 yards (he only got 1298). Stick a fork in him.

Keep it coming, by all means..... the laughs are great.

as a Packers fan i hope McNabb does succeed in Minny...not to the extent of winning the division mind you...but the Vikings HAVE to have a successful season to stop all the BS talk of not getting a new stadium and leaving for California. The NFC North is quickly becoming one of the most talented and competitive divisions in football and quite honestly the season wouldn't be the same without the Packers/Vikings rivalry.

@moochzilla

1) I do live in Philly and have since mcnabbs whole career

2) last year Vick and Reid said the same thing that some players showed Their youth. No one twisted their words

3) the defense DID BLOW that NFC title game to Arizona. Brian Dawkins even said it. I don't remember Donovan saying that though

4) I don't recall him saying "I wasn't the only reason we lost". What game was that? I don't really believe that

5) why should he help negotiate t.o's contract. He's not his agent and it's none f his business. All TO did was throw him under the bus every chance he got. I wouldn't speak up for that POS either

6) players hardly ever speak up when a player leave a team because they have to toe the company line and act like they love every move the team makes. They do that because they're scared to get cut. but Dawkins, trotter, westbrook always speak up on Donovans behalf. ALWAYS, and their leaders on the team

7) he never said he didn't have a good rb or wr's his whole career, which he didn't. The tv personalities are the ones who say that. Donovan never once publicly complained about anyone.

8) so I appreciate the response but not one fact where he threw someone under the bus. Just people twisting and reading into comments and making it whatever they want it to mean
