The New England Patriots have added yet another veteran player as the prepare for the 2011 season.  The team announced on Sunday that linebacker Niko Koutouvides has agreed to terms.

Koutouvides joined the Seahawks as a fourth-round pick in 2004.  After four seasons in Seattle, he spent a year with the Broncos.  He played for the Bucs in 2009 and 2010.

Despite only starting two career games, Koutouvides has appeared in 103 regular-season contests and eight postseason games.  He has 101 career special-teams tackles.

  1. Niko’s dad and grandfather still refuse to watch a game where the player is allowed to touch the ball with his hands.

  2. Well now my team has a Ninko (as a lot of us fans call Ninkovich) and a Niko. Looks like we will have to start calling Ninko “Rob”.

  3. I remember when Shanahan tried to convince us that this guy was going to be the Broncos’ next star linebacker.

  4. The Patriots Final Roster for 2011 should be very interesting and will be deep. Look at what the 2’s & 3’s did last week.

“Niko’s dad and grandfather still refuse to watch a game where the player is allowed to touch the ball with his hands.”

I knew this post was from you before I even looked at the name.

  6. “This says more about Brandon Spikes and Gary Guyton. Niko is junk.”

What exactly does that say about them?

Both are excellent players, Guyton is so good, that Belichick kept him on the team, even though he was an undrafted FA and one of the guys who came late to a meeting.

That says a lot about what Bill thinks of him.

And Spikes is a very talented young player.

Koutouvides is a depth signing at best, headed to ST duties and frankly, I don’t think he will be on the roster come Week 1.

  7. Purely a special teams player. The only meaning one could get out this is that their undrafted FA class isnt very good at special teams and they wanted a veteran to show them the ropes.

  8. camp body, for sure. They already have Tracy White who is an EXCELLENT special teams LB, and they have undrafted Jeff Tarpinian to push him in camp.

Probably just need someone to take reps because they have some guys banged up at LB.

Remember camp rosters are bigger, so many of these signings are camp fodder.
