DeSean says he’ll play Thursday

DeSean Jackson AP

Although the availability of a top wideout for an upcoming game has far more relevance during the regular season, the news that Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson will be playing on Thursday against the Steelers, only 10 days after reporting to camp following a holdout, is worth a mention.

And so we’ve mentioned it.

Jackson said after practice on Monday that he’ll play in the team’s second preseason game of 2011, according to PhillySportsDaily.com.

Jackson is still angling for a new contract, but he’ll practice and play without the long-term deal he craves.  He reportedly has purchased an insurance policy to protect him against the kind of injury that would prevent him from ever getting a big-money deal.

DeSean is a good kid he made his point and will get paid (as he should).

The Eagles will have news on Maclin tomorrow.

It’s all starting to come together.

  6. jdandcoke says: Aug 15, 2011 3:08 PM

good…one more game in which djax can possibly get blown up. it is coming…its just a matter of when. people as small as he is, who showboat as much as he does, eventually wind up having to pay the piper.

  7. duncanthecat says: Aug 15, 2011 3:10 PM

This guy is a ticking time bomb, if they don’t pay him soon.

He picked the agent who specializes in these situations.

    Ask the Redskins…

The Eagles aka ” The dream team ” as some of their players call themselves….will need more then a pro bowl alternate calling himself the best in the game, along with their coach calling their #2 receiver the best in the game to overcome the Packers…..

  10. eaglesfootballfan says: Aug 15, 2011 3:20 PM

The Eagles have a history of giving players new contracts before pre season games. As an Eagles fan, I hope they sign him long term in the next couple of weeks.

I predict a broken leg or worse.

  12. djcue13 says: Aug 15, 2011 3:24 PM

Why are some people on here IDIOTS. He has all the right to make a bold statement and hold out much as he could to make a very VALID Point.

He absolutely deserves a new contract. He has SO outplayed his current contract. And as Irvin said on NFL network…. what if he broke his leg and he doesn’t get a contract he deserves… will you guys chip-in? Sometimes it is necessary to make bold statements, unlike the TO situation… this seems to be valid.

  13. stoutfiles says: Aug 15, 2011 3:25 PM

He shouldn’t get paid, he weighs 120 lbs and is going to get something broke any day now, hence the insurance policy and failed holdout attempt. I hope the Eagles give him elite WR money though so he can breathe easy when injured.

  14. birdobeamen says: Aug 15, 2011 3:29 PM

    Packers fans are hilarious.

Your team snuck in through the backdoor to get into the playoffs…..were lucky enough to have one of the most accurate kickers in the history of the game miss not one but TWO very makeable field goals in the divisional game…..injured the starting QB in the NFC Championship game….and in the Superbowl, well, can’t really say much about the Superbowl, you dominated that one……but let’s be real.

You were 10-6, second in your division and barely made the playoffs. Kudos for your championship….but don’t act like you have a dominating team thats been doing it for years.

2011 Packers make the playoffs and get blown out by the Dreamgles. You heard it here first.

    djcue13

being that he is still on his rookie contract, i actually have to agree with you. even the best player in the league is one snap away from never playing the game again. if djax takes a career ending hit this year, without a new contract, he’s in a lot of trouble financially.

i can see djax’ point. osi on the other hand….screw him. and im a giants fan.

  17. bitchassjosh says: Aug 15, 2011 3:39 PM

nickynick, your qb didnt even make the pro bowl, so really, what does that mean? Just saying……

JDandCOKE, I like your drink of choice, but remind me how often Steve Smith (carolina) got blown up after his show boating antics? I dont think that there is a “pay the piper” rule in the league….. Also, just saying……

Duncanthecat, if there is one team that can deal with Rosenhaus and his antics, its the eagles…. Just ask TO…..

    You’re familiar with Karma, right?

Good luck with your team this year. Remember this post, when you’re fretting during the the injury time out, as your playmaker is being carted off the field: I wished for this.

Good for DeSean. He’s going against three pro bowl cornerbacks every day and is dominant. He’ll stretch the defenses and open up plays for his teammates. In addition to his home run threat, his value to the team is huge. Pay the man! He deserves, unlike that greedy and broke Osi.

what? really you actually think desean jackson is better than greg jennings? even a smart eagles fan is disagreeing with you on that one.

    2010
    DJ – 47 catches 1,056 yds 6 td’s – 14 games
    GJ – 76 catches 1,265 yds 12 td’s – 16 games

    A. all these GB fans on here talking junk.

They won the SB last year; they have the right to do so. When/if your eagles win one I guarantee you will do the same.

    B. for one d jaxx is better that any reciever on your whole team.

And the Packers won the SB. So what did d jaxx get you???

    C. to second that, dont forget why yall one that game. it was because our kicker missed two field goals.

Kicking field goals is part of football. If you miss them, you lose. Your kicker missed, you lost. Would you like to not include all plays where the outcome is not good for the benefit of your team??? DUH!!!

    D. so dont talk like you guys are they best thing since sliced bread.

Again, see “A”. They won the Superbowl, your team didn’t. At this point, the Packers are sliced bread.

Anything else you need help with?

And I’m not a Packers’ fan. Just one who has a brain.

It is amazing to me; the number of people that complain because an athlete wants to renegogiate his contract – it is a job people; no different than you going to your boss and asking for a raise.

Where is it written that if you have a contract you can’t renegogiate if you have outperformed the contract; if you took on additional responsibilities or exceeded expectations; wouldn’t you want a raise??

And for all of those people who wish injuries on any athlete; then you more than likely have never played the game at a high level; because that is the one thing you don’t do is wish an injury on someone else – Cowards!! Go Eagles

Take note Chris Johnson, this is how you deal with being grossly underpaid. Taking out an insurance policy is a smart move, I’d expect the team to reimburse him for any insurance-related expenses as a show of goodwill.

What about that D-Lineman who “tazers” himself after every sack?

You’re right, wiggling around like an idiot is not showboating at all.

All teams have players that do it. Don’t get butthurt because hot-dogging is just another thing in the long list of things the Eagles do better than the Giants.

    —————————————————————

You messed that one up. The “only two things come from Texas” joke works only if you name both things. Otherwise you leave the listener to fill in the blank. In this case, in addition to steers, I’ll say “the Philadelphia Eagles’ daddies” also come from Texas because normal keyboards are the right size for them. Here’s my version with a Philly tilt:

Only two things come out of Philly. Loser manlets with Napoleon complexes and ugly fat chicks with pasty skin. Which one are you?

Wow why all this hate? We all have our team people. I see people putting up stats comparing Jennings, cowboys fans still crying bc Jerry had his thumb up his ass during the FA period. Relax people, everyone has the same cap number. Player value has to do with scheme. Also wishing harm on someone else is not cool, talk sh1t but when wish harm on another you should be careful what you wish for. It just might be your guy laid out. 2 thoughts I leave you:

    1. Did you see colt McCoy slice that GB defense? What do you think Vick is gonna do to you? If Vick started in that first game you wouldn’t even make the playoffs. Props on the super bowl but the eagles will beat you this year.

    2. Cowboys and giants are scared of desean, period. They hate and hate but if they had a chance to sign a guy like that, they’d be drooling to do so.

    Go eagles! Keep em hatin!

  35. born2flyeagles2588 says: Aug 16, 2011 8:43 AM

Im glad ppl see things like me. And who was the most explosive offense last year? Who had a backup get cheated out of an mvp? Who put up more points? Ill give u pack fans this yall beat us dispite the 2 fg. All things considered yall killed our pass defense. Sumthing u WONT do this year obviously and lets not forget wat a healthy mike vick did 2 yall in 1 half not 2 mention another pro bowl wr in smith and rb in ronnie brown plus u have a pro bowl qb replacement in young. So I would b scared 2. Luck can only get u so far. The only way u can keep vick away from that trophy Is 2 put a dog collar on it. By the way for the midgets and cowgirls, who else from the nfc east went 2 the playoffs last year or the year b4 that…….?

  36. born2flyeagles2588 says: Aug 16, 2011 9:27 AM

And if I remember correctly we have the same number of playmakers the cowgirls had in thier days of glory ppl still live off of. Facts r facts and first I will say u r rite we dont have a sb (yet) but history proves that u dnt have 2 b good 2 win one. Other than the pats, colts, steelers, and eagles no other team that went 2 the sb since 2000 made it 2 the playoffs afterwards and some havent made it since (giants) oh and wen u can get 2 the sb wit no superstars and a 3rd string qb (eagles 2004 t.o. And mcnabb played 24 playoff minutes) anybody can go. Tell me 1 other team besides the pats who has played better as a team since 2000. Completely different team same coach same winning pct. And y werent we a “dream team” wen we had dawkins, taylor, and vincent, javon kearse etc. im from the hood the real hood not the rap hood. Im from north philly the hardest place 2 live in the us (check the murder 2 population ratio) and I knw why yall hate so much, a scared person will shoot u faster than a gangster will. Which brings the ? Of y is the hating only comin from fans and personel of teams that play us twice a year? Cuz the playoffs go through philly. U dnt hear it frm jets, pats, steelers, or anyone else that can compete wit us. U couldnt or barely beat us last year and ur scared now im not promising or hatching anything early but I will say even if all our fa sighnings get hurt u still couldnt beat us str8 up. And the cowgirls got their win against our second string last year cuz sumbody had 2 b healthy 2 rep the nfc east last year. So cudos 4 winning a hs scrimmage. Oh yea how many games where u below 500 again plz? how many coaches have yall been thru? Every year since 2000 we been a viable pick for the sb. Yall wouldnt have made the playoffs in the nfc west. And we won the hardest division in the nfl. I want 2 hear jerry jones excuses this year wen they fail 2 make the playoffs again. And caughlin wen they fail 2 beat us again.
P.s. Jerry jones has a lot of money for players but its funny how he keeps losing 2 us, hmmmmm probly becuase they’ll take less money 2 play 4 contenders and not pretenders. Face it the eagles r not just hype and thier leader has a heart of a lion. So stop crying. What will the argument b wen we win 1? We need more? Or we won it with a felon? If so can dallas fans talk about hiring felons? And y do u praise a known rapist and sexual deviant? Point blank yall hate 2 see a black man shine at anything thats y thier problems stay in the media more (tiger, vick, kobe etc) compared 2 others (ben, mcguire, clemens etc) sorry 4 the rant but.all facts ( not a racist just a realist. between protecting my dog or my daugter I choose the latter)
