Although the availability of a top wideout for an upcoming game has far more relevance during the regular season, the news that Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson will be playing on Thursday against the Steelers, only 10 days after reporting to camp following a holdout, is worth a mention.

And so we’ve mentioned it.

Jackson said after practice on Monday that he’ll play in the team’s second preseason game of 2011, according to PhillySportsDaily.com.

Jackson is still angling for a new contract, but he’ll practice and play without the long-term deal he craves. He reportedly has purchased an insurance policy to protect him against the kind of injury that would prevent him from ever getting a big-money deal.
