Bears may be interested in Maybin

Apparently the Chicago Bears like highly drafted pass rushers who have shown no ability to rush the passer.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears are discussing putting in a claim for Aaron Maybin, who was waived by the Bills on Monday.

Every NFL team has the opportunity to put in a claim for Maybin by 4 p.m. Eastern today. If multiple teams put in a claim for him, he’ll be awarded to the team that was highest in this year’s NFL draft order. If no teams put in a claim for him, he’ll become an unrestricted free agent.

A team that gets Maybin on waivers will inherit his contract, which actually isn’t that bad a deal: Although the Bills paid a fortune for Maybin after drafting him 11th overall in 2009, most of that money is already gone. He’s owed just $757,500 this season.

Maybin has zero sacks in his career, but if he does end up with the Bears, he wouldn’t be the biggest draft bust of a pass rusher on the team. That honor goes to Vernon Gholston, who was drafted sixth overall by the Jets in 2008 and also has zero career sacks.
