Giants to bring back Deon Grant

Michael Vick, Deon Grant AP

The Giants are adding safety depth after the group struggled in the preseason opener.

Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that the team will bring back safety Deon Grant on Tuesday.  Rookie Tyler Sash looked overmatched against Greg Olsen and the Panthers Saturday night.  Grant gives the Giants a steadier option.

Grant, 32, had three interceptions for the Giants last year. We like New York’s secondary overall, but they have a dramatic drop-off from their top guys to some of the reserves.

    Can he play TE?

as long as they dont use Grant as a “LB in the box” in fine with this.
anyone else remember the game last year vs the Colts when they had Grant lined up as a LB lol.

    GO BIG BLUE!!!

This is some of the best news I’ve heard all off season for Big Blue. I thought Grant was awesome for them last year, especially in Fewell’s defensive scheme. He likes using 3 safeties, espeically against Vick.

The Giants have a good defense with limited depth. Losing Cofield will be sorely felt. LB’s and DB’s are very thin. Big Blue has suddenly become the Thin Blue Line.

That pick he had Week 1 was absolutely ridiculous. Dude dove over someone and flipped onto his back… was a heck of a way to start off the season. Glad he’s back.

Finally….Big Blue makes a decent move for its secondary this offseason

    GIANTS SUCK.
    get out of jersey.

    oh ,
Giants have as many wins against us these past 3 years as we have superbowl trophies. (figured i’d steal the thunder.)

signed the team you can’t beat for the past 3 years and about to be 4 years without a win against the Eagles

Probably a smart move by the Giants.

    A couple of points though…

Greg Olsen is a stud and not many safeties in the league can cover him effectively.

Tyler Sash was an outstanding pick by the Giants. He was really a man among boys when playing for Iowa. He was a real steal for the Giants where they got him. I just think he probably needs more than 2 weeks of practice to man up against one of the NFL’s elite TE’s on his own.

Funny you should say that, because the attitude in Philly seems to be the same about people from South Jersey.

Grant was offered a deal from Philly, and he said,
“I’m here to take back those two games, we gave Philly”.
In 8 starts, he had 72 Tackles, 3Int’s & an Sack!
Fewell won’t let Vick get away this year, so get the lifeless Vince Young ready, he should be easy
    to put out too!
Grant’s a play-maker, looks like he’s 25, and as physical as anyone on the team.

I love how Philadelphia fans just keep on talking. My cousin says “jump up here with me, there’s plenty of room on the Eagles bandwagon”, to which I reply “like in their trophy case?”

I think you have it backwards. Coefield will sorely miss playing for the Giants. While in NY, every team was so preoccupoied with blocking New Yorks array of talented defensive ends that Coefield was more of an afterthought. He won’t have that luxury in Washington.

  15. Mr. Wright 212 says: Aug 16, 2011 1:57 PM

I love this move. He was solid for us last year.

  16. Mr. Wright 212 says: Aug 16, 2011 2:12 PM

Cofield went for the bucks, but somehow I don’t mind that at all. Basically, because we were resigned to it even before last season ended. Steve Smith is another story, and I bet he regrets going to Philly a LOT more than Cofield will eventually regret going to Washington solely for money.

And yes, he will miss playing here, because the Giants are stacked along the line TWO DEEP AT EVERY POSITION.

Tuck is backed up by Dave, and the young dudes who got play in the second half were not bad — one of them may be kept. Kiwanuka will be on the line at times. JPP and Osi on the other side. Canty was marvelous Saturday, backed up by Austin and you have Joseph and Bernard at the other DT position.

How are we gonna miss Cofield again? Marv Austin THROWS guys out of the way.

For all of us that forget what a GREAT city Philly is:

Phillies fans that intentionally puke on other Phillies fans kids/daughters.
Cheering as an opposing player lays motionless on their turf.
Have an animal torturing, herpes spreading, pathetic liar, career under achieving POS at QB.
Have a coach they cannot get rid of that has never coached well in a big game in his career.
Had a QB that was nothing but class & took them to FIVE NFC championships & a Super Bowl & couldn’t wait to run him outta town.
Had a JAIL built into their stadium & a Judge on duty as well for drunken local fans that couldn’t & can’t behave even in their own stadium.

AND, haven’t won a SB in FIFTY ONE years, but boast about regular season records. That’s what they have as their consolation prize —It must REALLY SUCK to be a Philadelphia fan.

1.) The primary goal of any NFL team is to win Superbowl trophies. That’s a FACT that you can’t accept because you have ZERO.

2.) Therefore, you just pooped on your own organization by making that comment.

3.) For every loser/piece of trash that exists in NJ, there is one in Philadelphia alone. Im not even talking about your entire state.

4.) Philadelphia steak sandwiches with “whizz” are the worst I’ve ever had. Made by convicts with dirt on their hands (sort of like your QB).

  20. Mr. Wright 212 says: Aug 16, 2011 2:40 PM

They’ve never won a Super Bowl, never will. Their last championship of any sort was 1960 and that wasn’t even the best of competition lmao.

the giants will battle the skins for 4th place in the n.f.c. east. first the positives decent front 4 (no depth) 2 good wide-outs (no depth) and thats where the positives end. season ticket holders will be selling their tickets by thanksgiving.

  23. Mr. Wright 212 says: Aug 16, 2011 5:27 PM

No depth? You’re a moron. And stop liking your own comments.

  24. greymares says: Aug 16, 2011 6:25 PM

Mr Wright 212 you seem to use the word moron in most of your posts. must have been your parents pet name for you. they have no depth and they have the 6th best Q.B. in the N.F.C. east, now even you have to give that a thumbs-up

  25. Mr. Wright 212 says: Aug 16, 2011 6:47 PM

    You’re trying too hard.

And yes, I address morons as morons. If you prefer lackwit buffoon, imbecile, pissant, peon, or miscreant, I can certainly oblige. I figured the point was clear.
