Jeremy Maclin’s health status still not cleared up

Philadelphia Eagles v New York Giants Getty Images

Today was supposed to be the day that we’d learn what’s going on with Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin, who has missed training camp with a mysterious illness. But when Eagles coach Andy Reid addressed the media today, he didn’t have an update.

Reid did, however, hint that it’s still possible that the Eagles will clarify Maclin’s situation later Tuesday afternoon.

There’s still some hours left in the day,” Reid said after practice.

Maclin’s brother said yesterday that “We definitely will have some news tomorrow.” That news hasn’t come out yet.

The indications are, however, that Maclin will be OK. His brother said the news will be good, and the Eagles have said they’re still hoping he can play in the regular-season opener on September 11.

    He is having problems with his thyroid and they wanted to be extra cautious because as you may or may not know thyroid issues have to be determined be process of elimination because the symptoms have a wide range. He is doing a lot better and will be rejoining the team shortly.

    @medtxpack

    Explain to me how faking a life/career threatening injury would give anyone leverage in contract negotiations

    @medtxpack is that a serious question or is your brain farting again. you’re excused.

    I”m not making fun of him if he’s really sick, but sounds like he might be allergic to training camp ;)

    Not just as an Eagles fan, but as a human being, here’s to hoping everything is good with Maclin whenever it is that we find out the news. Classy kid, get better soon Jeremy!

    You’re the people that wanted to kill Santa Claus. Do you still have a jail in your stadium? We just make the bad guys run up and down the turf at Soldier Field.

    Wanted to “kill” Santa. Always nice to see someone who doesn’t know the story of booing Santa Clause.

    Ignorance.

    Yo Rizzo, you should worry about Gay Cutler as your QB before you worry about a Philadelphia fan base that you couldn’t be half as great even in our worse day. Go cry that the leader of your team faked an injury. Then go and burn his jersey like every bears fan did after the green bay loss. Now go route for him to win a super bowl for your squad this year. I mean come on, every bears fan did burn their Cutler jersey last year, right??

    Nope. The guy lost 15 pounds this spring. And he was skinny to begin with. Now he looks skinnier than Todd Pinkston. Something’s not right.

    A Philly fan ripping a Bears fan about the way they treat Cutler?!? This coming from the fanbase that, pretty much single-handedly, drove Donovan McNabb out of town?

    Has Cutler taken the Bears to the SuperBowl yet? How many playoff appearances does Cutler have? Anywhere NEAR the number McNabb took your team to?

    You have no right to knock another teams fanbase for their treatment of their QB.

    Yeah this is no joke. He is very sick. I have a feeling this is going to be bad news. This is not some jackass player holding out.

  16. mikenj says: Aug 16, 2011 4:09 PM

    @gcsuk,

    Donovan’s increasing age and lack of ability to perform in the clutch drove him out of town. The organization realized a couple years back that his best days were behind him and we were NEVER going to win a SB with him. And we got a pretty solid safety/team leader with the 2nd round pick we swindled from the Redskins for him (Nate Allen).

    People, we are talking about a guys health. No matter what team you support, I will never make fun of someone’s health. Now why are we talking about the bears??? They’re not making the playoffs this year so stop wasting your breath. Their O line got beat like a drum by the bills, lol preseason or no preseason, when the bills do that to you, you got serious problems.

  19. eaglesfan290 says: Aug 16, 2011 4:22 PM

    I guess if you’re not an Eagles fan you don’t know much about JMAC.

    The kid has class

    The kid has talent

    No he isn’t holding out

    Just for the record his Dad is a doctor, and obviously he is getting very good advice, seeing the best doctors, and whatever he has/or they think he has it is serious or they thought it could be!

    Eagle’s fans don’t come on PFT and go after young players who are very sick.

    Grow up it’s a game this is someone’s life!

    gcsuk – not true. Philly fans can talk all they want. After all, they have implemented the Rooney Rule for QBs since Jaws retired.

  22. alexmcclellan says: Aug 16, 2011 4:37 PM

    @gcsuck

    Flawless logic on Eagles driving McNabb out of town and comparing it to burning Cutler jerseys… only problem was it took 10 years for McNabb to leave, we dealt with him blowing it in the clutch in 4/5 NFC championship games we went to AND 1/1 superbowls we went to with him, Cutler couldn’t play the 2nd half of 1 NFC championship game and you guys were calling for his head.

    Cutler didn’t even underperform, he just didnt play due to injury. Go ahead and say he whimped out, but he’s a young QB with a long career ahead of him, why play with an injury if it would hurt his team and possible further his injury?

    Have fun this season, I’m sure vernon gholston, roy williams, and your amazing O-line will carry you back to the championship game.

  23. jerseysportsbullies says: Aug 16, 2011 5:01 PM

    Love how my first comment, which was hoping for the best for Maclin’s health has 13 more thumbs down than thumbs up.

    Some “fans” don’t realize this is a person’s life we’re talking about, not just “Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin.”

  24. kcfanatic says: Aug 16, 2011 5:13 PM

    I hope the kid is ok. He was unbelievable at MIZZOU. Even though I am not an Eagles fan, I still enjoy watching his highlights on Sundays. Get well JMAC!

  25. jeromebrown99 says: Aug 16, 2011 5:27 PM

    I was only making a point that just because Eagles fans booed a drunk Santa decades ago, or because some fans drink too much and up in jail, doesn’t mean all the fans are bums. Just like I’m sure all Bears fans didn’t burn jerseys last year. As for running McNabb out of town, live here dicks. McNabb was loved, respected, and routed for. Everyone had his back with the whole TO thing. His act just pretty much got old, and he really never understood how the whole thing works. What Cutler did last year though, that’s quitting on his team, city, and the whole league. There is no way in hell he does that in Philly and comes back the next year. So once again , I would worry about your joke of a team before another teams fan base. unless you have already thrown in the towel for this season and have only this to do. For that I pity your ass.

    Philly ran McNabb out of town? Really?

    I could have sworn he was traded to the Redskins by Andy Reid for a WAYYY more valuable set of draft picks, considering as the minute he stepped off the plane in D.C. his numbers and skillset declined dramatically.

    So hey, you know – on one hand, trading an aging QB to keep your team competitive. On the other hand, some chump who wants to hate Philly fishing for a made-up reason to do so.

    I’m gonna have to go with B, on the condition that you know that you’re a total chump with no knowledge of football.

    FRANKRIZZO, Wow, thats a bit of a stretch, dont you think? Just because some random Eagles fans, decades ago, decided to pelt a man dressed up as Santa(Keep in mind, hes not the “real” santa, people) with snowballs. Who cares?!! Some guy in a frikkin Santa suit gets pelted and all of the sudden every Eagle fans is a bad person.lol. Get over yourself bro. I’d kick the Easter Bunny in the balls if I had to! Does that make me a bad person?

    Because Chicago Mayors have all been a bunch of corrupt scumbags, not even a Bears fan would want to be associated with one.
