Maclin still a week away from practicing

It is a relief for Jeremy Maclin and the Eagles to know that the young receiver is cancer-free after a health scare. Now he needs to get ready for the football season.

Eagles head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder held a conference call Wednesday night to talk about Maclin. A few takeaways from the session:

1. Maclin can start lifting and running right away, but he won’t practice for 7-10 days. He has some work to do before getting back in “football shape.”

2. All cancer tests were negative. Maclin had some sort of virus and Burkholder intimated that it’s still a little unclear what the exact problem was.

“A lot of things [were] going on, nothing definitive,” Burkholder said via Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News. That’s a little concerning.

3. Maclin has been symptom free. Burkholder is confident the virus is not “life threatening.” He had minor surgery to examine his lymph nodes last week, but the surgery is not something that takes time to recover from.

4. The Eagles are confident Maclin will be ready for the season opener in St. Louis.
