'MECHANICS' is the least of Tebow's problems as an NFL qb. I hear the chants... "JUST LET HIM PLAY!!!" If you really are a fan 'with a clue' you DON'T want Tim to play yet.

The whole mechanics issue is just a distraction to Tebow's biggest most glaring problem. I don't care if a guy can throw a hundred yard pass with touch, it doesn't matter if you can NOT go through a post snap progression / read and allow for play development.

Even at the level of football I played db, I know for a fact Tebow will NOT throw the ball. EVEN WHEN HE WANTS TO.

The book on Tebow by the NFL has been written. Bum rush a few, keep a couple at home and cover the rest. Tebow is hard wired that once his first receiver is covered the head goes down and, off to the races Tebow goes. Yeah, it worked in College. That's not going to cut it in the NFL.

He needs to be 'rewired' and that will only happen if it gets DRILLED out of him.

To: granadafan at 1:53 PM

“packfaninpackland says: Aug 17, 2011 12:13 PM

I am by NO MEANS saying Tim Tebow is going to be Aaron Rodgers, but as a Packer fan I remember the knock on Rodgers coming out of college was his odd throwing motion and that he and the Packers worked on it tremendously early on, and that coupled with 3 years to sit, watch and learn, and Rodgers became what he is today.”
————————————————————————-
Whoa there. Rodgers was incredibly accurate in college and had a very strong arm.

"As were Tim Couch, Brian Brohm, Ja Marcus Russell, David Carr, and many, many other first round QB's that flamed out magnificently in the NFL. Your point ???

He didn’t have an odd throwing motion, but just that he held the ball higher than what others did. Holding the ball high “on the shelf” was considered a quicker release. He doesn’t hold the ball as high anymore,

"Yes, after a looooooong process that first year in training camp. I guess you convienantly "forget" that. Plus, don't ever underestimate the incredible "value" of sitting, watching, and learning for THREE FULL YEARS, as opposed to being tossed to the wolves as an NFL Rookie QB. DUHHHHHHHH

but he still has a quick release. Brett Favre, your former QB, had terrible mechanics (sidearming, jerky motion) yet his release was very quick and also had a cannon arm.

Now we know the criticism of Rodgers was unfounded and irrational.

"Again, with a lot of work, AND coupled with throwing motion ! PLUS, I believe some of the criticism came from McCarthy and in particular the Packer quarterbacks coach. Nice attempt at revisionist history though. Not" !

No one looked at his accuracy or the speed of his release. Mechanics are overrated

"Overrated ... really" ???? Oh, okay.

unless the quirk prevents him from delivering the ball quickly. Rodgers’ motion did NOT prevent this nor did it affect Favre.

However, for Tebow, every QB analyst has said that he’s slow on the release. Given the speed of defenders, those seconds are the difference between a completed pass and a batted pass.

"So I guess you agree with Hoge, then. Hmmm. I guess we'll see about that."

I'm not a Tebow fan but Johnny Unitas, Fran Tarkenton, Billy Kilmer, Warren Moon and Brett Favre all had quirks in their mechanics/play and they all were very good QB's at the NFL level.

Not everybody needs to be a Bill Walsh kind-of-guy to succeed in the NFL at the top level. We have guys playing today, like Michael Vick and Ben Roethlisberger, who have somewhat unorthodox pocket play and deliveries and who have fared really well despite that.

I think Tebow probably will struggle at this level, however I won't be shocked if he turns out to be good enough to get away with unusual mechanics and still play well in the NFL.

svcfilmguy:

Thanks for proving my point. Reading comprehension is not your strong points I see.

"Uh…no. It proves that a massively talented athlete can overcome a flaw." Exactly!!

Hoge dismisses all else BUT Tebow's motion as a reason he will not play qb in the NFL. As if that's the only important part of being a QB. That's was point of my post. And certainly that has been proven false by many successful qb's who have not had ideal mechanics.

My other point is that Hoge has been wrong in HIS analysis of many qb's. Nothing in your post suggests I'm wrong about Hoge's obvious inability to correctly pick WHICH qb's coming out of college will be successful.

By the way, you seem to indicate Favre changed his throwing motion? That's what it sounds like in your post. Because if you are, you're an extremely ignorant football fan in general, and I question whether you actually watch the game!!

Plain and simple Hodge is an idiot. Second he is not being objective. Anyone who saw that game will tell you that Teebow did great. That is except Hodge and haters that have a hidden agenda. Hodge as much as you never want to see Teebow play a snap in a regaular season game and claim he never will it shows yours idiocracy because first he already has played three games and in one brought his team back to victory from deficit. Third he will play in a regular season game and actually start for probably around 15 years and win a lot of playoff games and probably super bowls. Yeah Hodge you think you can influence things with your mouth but you cannot. Teebow can influence with his play and Hodge you have lsot all credability for not being objective. I am sure you and Elway will go have a beer together for doing his dirty work; maybe you are even on Elway's payroll. Maybe you got to many concussions and are really just dumb Hodge I buy that to a certain point but you do no something about football so you are probably just hating; could it be because Teebow is bigger, stronger, and better looking. Or could it be that you are not secure with your faith and are just bashing him because you know he is a btter person than you as well. Hodge my best advice is get mentored by Tony Dungy you need some help. And go pray as well because unobjective people generally have little or no god in their life.

STFU already Hoge!
Ok so you don't care for Tebow, we get it. It's very obvious that this has become personal for you for whatever reason.
If you are such a great evaluator of talent, you should become a GM. Until you do that, you are just another talking head with all the answers and none of the accountability.

Yeah, Hog said ripped Aron Rodgers before he was drafted as bad as he did Tebow. Said Arron had a weak arm, was inaccurate, couldn't read Ds, bad pocket presence the whole gamut and concluded that Rodgers would never make as an NFL QB and any team would be foolish to draft him. Hog has too many female hormones and is constantly PMS-ing. Pathetic!

Let's see now Merrill. Just a few NFL QB's with really funky throing motions. Some even like Tebows:
1. Philip Rivers- Boy did he turn out great!
2. Ben Roethlisberger- 2 superbowls wins in 3 shows
4. Michael Vick- No struggle here
5. Jim Plunkett- oops, just 2 Superbowl wins
6. Randall Cunningham- perennial playoff guy
7. Joe Kapp-Worst ever-but perennial playoff guy
8. Fran Tarkenton- Ran all over the place-Mostly in playoffs.

I'm sure the readers can name a ton more. The point is that for every Brady, Manning, Bradshaw, Brees, Elway, Marino, Kelly Pastorini, Moon, Montana and others gifted with NFL perfect throwing mechanics. There are an equal number of ugly duckling hurlers. who are flat out leaders. And they usually leave no prisoners and accept nothing but playoffs and championships. Several are in the Hall of Fame. Tebow could easily be in the latter "Duckling" group if given a fair chance by someone. Time will tell.

A couple other people beat me to it, but Byron Leftwich and Philip Rivers both came into the league with sloppy/unconventional throwing motions. Obviously, Rivers has done better in overcoming/adjusting his issues than Leftwich did, but Byron still had a decent run, and is still a solid backup in the league.

Rich Gannon, Kurt Warner, & Tommy Maddox are just a few examples of QBs that come to mind who took a long time to realize their potential. Maybe Tebow will never get there. I wouldn't bet against him, though - he seems like the type to keep his nose to the grindstone and never give up. And I hated the kid while he was in college and leading up to the draft. The more I see him ignore his critics and just work at making himself better, the more I kinda root for him, though. (But I still wouldn't want him lining up under center for my team - unless it's with the 2nd team!)

"packfaninpackland says:

I am by NO MEANS saying Tim Tebow is going to be Aaron Rodgers, but as a Packer fan I remember the knock on Rodgers coming out of college was his odd throwing motion and that he and the Packers worked on it tremendously early on, and that coupled with 3 years to sit, watch and learn, and Rodgers became what he is today."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whoa there. Rodgers was incredibly accurate in college and had a very strong arm. He didn't have an odd throwing motion, but just that he held the ball higher than what others did. Holding the ball high "on the shelf" was considered a quicker release. He doesn't hold the ball as high anymore, but he still has a quick release. Brett Favre, your former QB, had terrible mechanics (sidearming, jerky motion) yet his release was very quick and also had a cannon arm.

Now we know the criticism of Rodgers was unfounded and irrational. No one looked at his accuracy or the speed of his release.

Mechanics are overrated unless the quirk prevents him from delivering the ball quickly. Rodgers' motion did NOT prevent this nor did it affect Favre. However, for Tebow, every QB analyst has said that he's slow on the release. Given the speed of defenders, those seconds are the difference between a completed pass and a batted pass.
