Steelers lose another tackle

Super Bowl XLV Getty Images

The Steelers lost their starting left tackle on the first play of the game Thursday night against Philadelphia.

They lost their backup left tackle, second round pick Marcus Gilbert, later in the first quarter.  The FOX broadcast showed Gilbert sitting on a cart with someone testing his knee.

On our “what to watch” preview for Thursday night, we said the shaky Pittsburgh tackle group would have their hands full Thursday night. We certainly didn’t envision this.

Pittsburgh is winning 14-0 in the second quarter, but the tackle injuries could be a major concern.  Steelers fans and coaches have to be feeling deja vu after struggling through so many offensive line injuries in recent years.

Somehow, we have a feeling Flozell Adams is getting a call this week.

(Yes, that’s a picture of Flozell because there are no pictures of Gilbert in a Steelers uniform.)

I reckon Max Starks & Flozell Adams will be splitting the Steelers remaining 4.4 million of cap space.

It’s hard to be discouraged when the starters look so good against the starting “Dream Team.” Wonder if Max is in better shape now than when he reported.

Frist to say they are falling left and right.
    Wait till the season start.

wait a minute. shouldnt flozell be listed as an h-back. the league lets him line up so far in the backfield that he should be getting h-back money which is cheaper than tackle money.

Byron Leftwich could always fill in…

It is a shame to see anyone getting injured. Wonder if no team organized offseason workouts and no 2 a day practices have anything to do with this. I’m sure someone will have stats comparing injurys this year to years past. Looks like I will be seeing Pig Ben laying on the field in the fetal postion lots this year considering O line talent and depth is their weakness. Hey you are at least winning this PRESEASON game:)
Go Browns. Pitts. Stuck on Six till 2026!

    @stinkyfingers …

Stuck on six till 2026 … now that’s funny :)

I’d like to see some data comparing preseason injuries this year to other years. I think we’re just paying more attention this year.

Bryant Mckinnie is stuck on shapiro’s yacht that ran outta gas. Stuck out at sea with hookers….. imagine those conversations when the booze runs dry. i’d kill myself.

yea what else is new. We plug someone else in there and they get the job done”the standard is the standard”. Typical, dealt with the same crap last year and we havent even gotten thru the preseason yet. Actually losing Scott may not be a bad thing. Welcome back, Flozell.

And what happens after the injuries? The Steelers recover and someone steps in to complete a great performance against the “dream team”.

bensstinkyfingers, it is not a shame for Pig Ben to get injured, hopefully the career ending kind of injury. Maybe the Browns can make it happen this year. See what you can do about it.

steelerfannomatterwhat, you need to raise your standards.

Shut up Deb, you aren’t even from Pittsburgh.
