Steelers lose another tackle

Super Bowl XLV

The Steelers lost their starting left tackle on the first play of the game Thursday night against Philadelphia.

They lost their backup left tackle, second round pick Marcus Gilbert, later in the first quarter. The FOX broadcast showed Gilbert sitting on a cart with someone testing his knee.

On our “what to watch” preview for Thursday night, we said the shaky Pittsburgh tackle group would have their hands full Thursday night. We certainly didn’t envision this.

Pittsburgh is winning 14-0 in the second quarter, but the tackle injuries could be a major concern. Steelers fans and coaches have to be feeling deja vu after struggling through so many offensive line injuries in recent years.

Somehow, we have a feeling Flozell Adams is getting a call this week.

(Yes, that’s a picture of Flozell because there are no pictures of Gilbert in a Steelers uniform.)
