Belichick inherited a handful of key guys on D and added a few of his own to put a strong 3-4 D on the field early in his tenure. He has been seeking the strong OLBs for his 3-4 for a while and it just hasn’t happened and the D has slowly slipped out of the first tier because of that. There just aren’t many of those types available around the league or from the draft in recent years.

Reluctantly, looking at what he has and what was available he is going to a 4-3 for the most part. Better to have a couple mediocre DLs in a 4-3 than a couple of mediocre OLBs in a 3-4.

Carter should stick in this new format.

AC was a nice player with the Skins, but was a player without a position once they switched to the 3-4.

I could see him doing well in New England, with his hand in the dirt he can still get after the QB.

NE’s pass rush looks much improved. And they’ve been doing it thusfar without Haynesworth and Shaun Ellis, bot of whom will almost certainly be ready when the real bullets starts flying. The return of Myron Pryor and Mike Wright helps too; both are good players but were lost at midseason last year.
Mayo has been a surprise on the outside. Never knew he could rush the passer so effectively cuz it clearly wasn’t part of his job discription in years past.

Andre Carter is a very good player. The Pats are using more of a four man front this year and Carter is a very good pass rusher. As a Skins fan, I’m glad that he’s having a good preseason. Now, if they could only fix Haynesworth…

He was solid in DC. And that was playing besides a bunch a two bit clowns. With the proper coaching, which Im suree he is receving in NE, A. Carter can make some noise.

Yes we know…it’s just preseason…however the new D was very impressive. How will things look when big Al get into the line up? Bill has never been a big blitzer, but he will does what it takes. If it means more blitzing…then so be it.
